The Lycan King
"What?!" Hazel looked at Emilia incredulously. "To the Lycan king?" "I overheard their conversation last night" Emilia said, her voice trembling in fear. Hazel was equally terrified. "It's happening, Hazel. I told you this man was going to get rid of me the moment his little plaything came into the picture". She burst into tears and flopped onto her bed. "Emilia…" Hazel didn't know what to say. She knew Emilia's dad had never wanted her around, but not to the extent of selling her. "When are they taking you to him?" "Tomorrow, Hazel. What do I do now?" Emilia said to her friend in-between sobs. "I can't live just as his s****l relief and baby machine. Lycans are extremely ruthless, Hazel, and he's their king. The most ruthless of all. They said he kills one of his people everyday for his dinner." She resumed her sobs. "It's not even as his mate, it's as his slave. Why would my father sell me off to someone who could kill me at once if I don't make any babies for him. Does he want to get rid of me at all cost?" Emilia continued ranting. "Oh you're so lucky, Hazel. You have someone you love who is obsessed with you, all you have to do is wait for your mate's bond to happen any moment from now..." Hazel spaced out, she didn't know if what Emilia was saying was completely true. Today was her 18th birthday and everyone got their mates on their 18th birthday in this pack - except for those who had no mates and were destined to be alone, it was a basic tradition, but when she had gone to school this morning, all her hopes had been utterly crushed as she felt absolutely nothing with Jake. He was the Alpha's son and next in line while she was only a lowlife omega wolf and because of this, she had always had her suspicions low-key that they weren't meant to be together. Emilia hadn't gotten hers but she wasn't at all worried, afterall, she didn't exactly have any love interest amongst the male werewolves in the pack. But anyways the day wasn't over yet, something between her and Jake might still … "... Hazel?" Emilia called and Hazel snapped out of it. "Were you listening?" "Yes, of course" She lied as she began picking up Emilia's things and hurriedly putting it into a bag. "Stop worrying about it because it's not going to happen." "What're you doing?!" "You're running away from this hellhole". Hazel wasn't about to allow her best friend leave this town to live with a monster for the rest of her life. Besides, if she let Emilia go, she'll never get to see her again. Emilia, along with Jake, was the only thing keeping her sane in this town in the midst of all her stepmother and stepsister's abuse. "Hazel!!" Emilia called, forcing her friend to stop. "Are you out of your mind?" "Are you not?" "Where am I to go?" "You have a mother from the neighboring pack, do you not? You'll only have to sneak in to find her. There aren't many female gammas there, it shouldn't be very difficult" Emilia paused to think. "If I even manage to escape this house and get caught, that's the end of it for me and my family." "What family??! The one that wants to sell you off to a monster away from town?" Hazel said, infuriated and Emilia kept silent. The door opened and Diane, Emilia's new stepmother stepped in and Hazel hid the bag behind her. "What're you doing here?!" She shouted at Hazel. "You're not allowed to be here, leave at once!" She turned to Emilia. "And you, hand in your phone right now!" "Rooftop, 9" Hazel whispered to Emilia before picking up her bag and heading out. They both knew what that meant. Hazel was hoping that Emilia would change her mind and meet her at their secret hangout. * * * Hazel was so delighted when she saw Emilia waiting on the rooftop of their former elementary school by 9pm. "I basically climbed a mountain and down trying to get out of that house" Emilia said, she was a bit more relaxed now. "We need to start heading out now." Hazel said and grabbed her bag. Nervousness suddenly sprang up her body as her heart reached her throat. What if they really got caught? Would they really be killed? The thought had only seemed to occur to her now and it terrified her. "Did you carry any money along with you?" Emilia asked and Hazel's heart dropped, she had totally forgotten about money. "I'll have to rush back and break my piggy bank" She said as she quickly changed direction towards her house but Emilia stopped her. "We can't take anymore time, my father would have realized I'm gone and get a search party for me" Emilia said worriedly. "It's okay I'll be quick, just wait here" Hazel comforted and began running home. She could feel the moon's power tonight and it caused her more strength and speed. But more oddly, she could feel a weird and strong connection towards something, like her heart had opened up. . .Was it just tonight's moon? She got to her house and quickly climbed up the window. She was an expert at this already, from all the nights she had to sneak out to see Jake. Her stepmother and sister had resented the fact that she was in a serious relationship with the Alpha's son and had done everything in their power to sabotage it ever since her father had passed away. She inwardly prayed to the moon goddess that her stepsister wouldn't be in there, waiting for her. She got in and was relieved that there was no one but she realized that she couldn't break the piggy bank here because it would cause a lot of noise and they would have to come up to shut her down. She carried the piggy with her and ran down to where Emilia had been waiting. "My father must've already discovered that I'm missing rung up a search party me by now." Emilia whined "Hazel we'll be so dead by tomorrow." Hazel paid no attention to heras she started running and Emilia followed. They were headed north of the pack, where the border between the packs lay on the westside after the Tereon river. It was immediately they had sighted the river that the sound of running footsteps resounded through the forest they had just passed through and down Hazel's bones in terror. She would be dead for aiding Emilia's runaway, her stepmother and sister would be elated and Jake's heart would be broken into a million pieces. Emilia began to sob as she desperately ran towards the river. Once they had reached the river, Emilia dived into it and began swimming west but Hazel was transfixed to her spot, her wolf, Maya, wasn't willing to move. She was suddenly reminded of her trauma. The trauma she had developed as a cub while she watched her mother drown. The footsteps drew closer and it began to sound like constant clomping, like a person running…with four feet. Hazel remained transfixed and Emilia wasn't looking back as she continued to swim, she probably assumed Hazel was right behind her. But more importantly, the strong connection she had started feeling earlier had grown exponentially and she felt her blood surge through her veins, a strong scent filled her nose, but what was weird was the fact that this wasn't the smell of a werewolf. She had never smelt anything like it before and never anything as strong and mouth watering as this either. Suddenly she felt the sting of sharp claws as something grabbed her by the shoulders and pinned her down, face to the ground. She felt it again, she felt Maya draw to the connection stronger than ever and she didn't need to figure out what it was again, she already knew. The mate bond that she had been waiting for for years was finally here. The claws on her shoulder loosened its grip and she could tell he felt whatever she was feeling too. Who the hell was this? Who was she mated to? Was it Jake by any chance? She spun around to meet the strong gaze of his green eyes and her eyes widened in fear. This was a wolf alright, but it wasn't a werewolf. This was a Lycan and he looked familiar. The Lycan king.
