Chapter Fourteen Callan found Tim in the living room, pacing a hole in the floor and spewing curses. Officers and medical staff had cleared the room. He paused, seeing Callan at the threshold, before gesturing to the chair. Callan was grateful for the distraction from his smarting arm. ‘Thank you. I don’t… To think a man I paid, hired wasn’t just stealing from me but leading my daughter on!’ ‘It’s hard to spot predators sometimes.’ ‘Hard to spot! I shoulda known. The lad couldn’t keep that leer off his face, the tobacco stench off his clothes. Twenty, but what had he to show for it? No manners, no kindness, no nothing! If I wasn’t around, he’d be the first to take off with a car, and to think he’s been messing with my baby!’ The turmoil dancing in Tim’s eyes exploded into the room.
