Maddie's POV. My eyes were set on my mom in the middle of the living room. She stood still, and then I noticed half- packed boxes and bags surrounded her. Her hands were on her hips, and then she began to fold some clothes as she hummed a song to herself. Her reactions were as though everything was perfectly okay. “Mum, what's going on?” I asked with a sleepy voice. “We are moving Maddie. I'm aware that I informed you yesterday before you left for school. I instructed you to come back early from school yesterday so we could pack up, but you didn't, so I am Forced to pack up this morning,” she explained. “I didn't think you were serious about it. "Do you really want us to move in with Jaxon?” I asked As my mum stopped in her tracks for a moment, and then, after what seemed like a long time, she Finally looked up at me with a bright smile displayed on her lips. “Of course, sweetie. "Jaxon is a good man, and the decision will be good for us,” she explained. “Good for us? You mean you? "You've been wanting this for a while, haven't you?” I asked in my voice. Was laced with frustration. “Don’t just start this drama, Maddie. I really don't need it, and you know how I feel about Jaxon. He Has been nothing but a kind man to us, so it's time for us to embark on a fresh start," she said. and I crossed my hands across my chest; I was unable to hide the disgust I felt. “Come on, Mum. Do you mean embarking on a fresh start and moving into a man's house? A man that you barely know?” I asked. “I have known Jaxon for a week plus. So you had better stop being difficult and help me with these boxes. I don't want to leave you behind, but we have to make this work, she instructed, and I bit hard. on my lower lip as I tried to control my anger; otherwise, I might lose it. “Knowing a guy for a week doesn't mean you can just move into his house,” I said. “Firstly, Jaxon isn't just a guy to me. He is my boyfriend, Maddie, and you need to understand that. secondly, Jaxon is different, and I can see my whole life with him,” she stated as a wave of anger. rushed through me. Doubts filled my head and I wondered if mum really cared about me. I thought she was going to ask me what happened in school but she did nothing of that sort. I turned to leave the living room. I didn't want to be there, especially when I was quite aware that she didn't need my presence around her. ~~~~~~~~~~ We finally reached the new house, and I would admit that I was in utter awe. Jaxon’s penthouse was so massive; I didn't know that he was really wealthy. Mum didn't tell me about all that. The penthouse looked over the city as though it was some type of a castle. And the building itself was modern and extremely sleek with giant windows that reflected the sky. There were cars parked in the driveway, and I saw two maids standing by the door. I was sure they were assigned to receive us. I really felt like an intruder. “Welcome to our new home, Maddie.” Mum's voice filled the air as she stood beside me, and then she flashed an encouraging smile at me, but I didn't respond to her. A butler opened the door to the penthouse, and he bowed slightly towards us. “Welcome, Miss Alyssa. We have been expecting you, Mr. Jaxon just returned from a meeting he had in New Jersey, and he will be home shortly,” the butler conversed and a smile came from my mom. “Thank you, Blackwood”, mum said. “You are welcome ma'am. If you will permit, please allow me to show you to your room, he urged as he stepped aside and gestured for us to walk inside. We followed behind him as my footsteps echoed through the marble foyer. I noticed that the interior of the house was even more grand than the outside; the ceilings were high, and the walls were lined with paintings that looked just like that of an artwork kept in a museum. “Your room is on the second floor, just through those double doors,” Blackwood said as he gestured to a pair of wide double doors. “Is it my room?” I asked in a soft voice. “Yes Maddie. It's your room” my mum said and I walked away to stand by herself all alone. I followed the directions and I found my room. I stepped inside, and I was shocked at what I saw. The room was so spacious, and the bed was bigger than my former bed in my old bedroom. “Maddie,” I heard a familiar voice call out to me, and I turned to see my mum behind me. “What do you want to talk to me about, Mum?” I questioned. “Maddie, please. I know this is all a big change for you, but I am doing all of this just for us, and you will like your new house. Just give it time, and not only that. Jaxon's son is a nice boy, and I believe you will get along with him nicely, she revealed, and I froze as the weight of her words pressed down on me. What did she mean by his son? Jaxon has a son?. “What did you say, Mum?” I asked as I hoped I didn't hear her well. “I said, his son. Jaxon's son, you will meet him soon; he is just as friendly as his father,” she replied. “Mum, are you really serious right now? After so long, now you are telling me that Jaxon has a son?” I uttered, still unable to believe what I just heard. “What is wrong with him having kids? It's not unusual for a man to have children. Just trust me when I say you will like his son; at least trust in me, even if it's just once.” “You don't even know him, Mum; you don't even know his son. And you just believe that I'm going to like him?” I said. “Maddie, that is how families work, and you are going to have to adjust. I really think you should just try to get along with everyone; and please be open-minded,” she suggested. “I'm not going to like his son; you don't even know what I want. Firstly, you said I should like Jaxon, and now you want me to like his son. Never! It is not going to be possible.” I turned away from her before she could respond to me. I was too angry to listen, and the whole situation felt like a cruel joke to me. ~~~~~~~~ A few minutes later I was downstairs for dinner. A strong polished table was stretched out before me, and the meal was already laid on the table. They even had some kinds of salads I had never seen, and I also wasn't sure that I could pronounce them. I sat down on my chair, as I quietly made sure I did not have eye contact with anyone, but just then, the door opened, and a man walked inside, and I immediately knew it was Jackson. He was a tall man, and he was dressed in a suit that was more expensive than all the clothes I had in my wardrobe. He looked at me with an unreadable expression. “Maddie, I hope you're settling in well. Welcome to your new home, he said with a low and sweet voice. I looked at him, but I didn't respond to his pleasantries and questions because I wasn't going to pretend as though I liked him. And then just when I was about to take a bite of my salad, another figure entered the dining room, and my heart dropped when I saw who he was, Dylan Carter.
