Chapter One
Elias Wolfe Pov
"Hey man," I turned to see my coworker, Hayden, leaning against the exit door as I prepared to leave. Our shift ended twenty minutes ago, but our boss demanded that we continue to work until the next shift arrived. The night shift always arrived thirty minutes late, and due to our job not allowing overtime, we had to work off the clock.
"Mmm?" I responded as I pulled my uniform bag over my shoulder. I didn't want to go around town with the company logo on my person. If something were to happen and people saw where I worked, I would probably get fired instantly.
"You sure you don't wanna come?" Hayden asked.
"Hayden, you know I don't like bars," I sighed. We both began to exit the building, heading to our vehicles. Hayden had been bugging me to go to the bar with him for months. I looked up at him. He's a tall beta with curly brown hair that fell past his shoulders. His eyes were a bright azure blue, and he had sunkissed skin. His muscles were practically bludging from the tight dress shirt he had brought from home. Hayden would go to the bar once every two weeks for one or two drinks and find a partner to spend the night with.
I looked down at myself. I was a short alpha with wild black hair. My skin was pale as snow, and my eyes had Heterochromia: one eye was black, and the other was a striking purple. I'm odd for an alpha. I can't land a date or even gain the courage to speak with anyone.
Hayden puts an encouraging arm around my shoulder with a bright smile. "How about this? Come to the bar with me for an hour, and if you still don't want to stay, I won't bother you about it again. Plus, I'll buy your drink. Deal?"
Damn him and his saint-like smile, I thought. Reluctantly, I agreed.

"That meeting went on longer than I thought it would be," I grumbled to my assistant, Stacy.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Tempest." The young beta woman held her head down in shame. She had arranged the meeting later than needed, and our clients were not too keen on evening conversations, especially on the weekend.
I couldn't blame her for wanting to get everything out of the way for our sake. The stuffy atmosphere of snobby alphas was all too much to handle, but I appreciated having a three-day alpha hormone-free weekend.
"It's alright, Stacey. "Will you need a ride home tonight?" I asked.
"No need, sir." She smiled when she spotted a small blue car waiting for her.
Her mate, Tanika, bounded out of the car with a wide grin on her lips. "Babe! How was work, hun?"
Stacey leaped into her mate's waiting arms, both beaming with happiness. I couldn't help but feel like an intruder while witnessing their affection. My omega whined, wishing to have such a connection with someone.
"Tanika, take care of her, okay?" I said, waving them goodbye.
"Don't I always?" Tanika replied as she pulled her mate towards the car.
I looked at my watch, which read twelve-thirty. Zephyr should be finishing work soon. After thinking for a moment, I decided to go to the twenty-four-hour café. The journey only took less than twenty minutes when I saw him.
A short man, clearly buzzed, was walking in my direction. Behind him was a taller, older man. His eyes were directly on the drunkard, and he didn't even seem to notice. How his eyes loomed over the unaware man sent waves of disgust down my spine. The older man called out to the other man, "Hey, Elias!"
The man, Elias, jumped, dropping his bag in the process. He spun around and shrunk in on himself. His pheromones gave off hints of distress and warning. By how spicy his scent spiked, this Elias was an alpha.
"Mr. Hugh," He responded, his voice wavering.
"Elias, did I not say to stay until after the night shift arrived?" Mr. Hugh snarled.
"S-sir, I couldn't stay any longer," Elias tried to reason. "I stayed as long as I could, but-"
"BUT NOTHING!" Mr. Hugh roared. "I'm your boss; I get to say when you can leave. I'll dock your pay for insubordination!"
I took a step closer, sensing the terror radiating from the alpha. His boss stood over the smaller alpha, his eyes now filled with allure; the scent of arousal filled the air. "Or, I'll forget about this incident if you-"
Before he could utter a crude word, I pulled the smaller one into my body. "Babe, didn't you have fun after work?" I asked, my eyes more focused on Mr. Hugh. I spotted the logo on his shirt—one of the top gas stations in the country. I doubt the CEO of this branch would like to be informed about his employee sexually harassing a subordinate.
"Eh, who the hell are you, Omega?" He snarled.
"I'm Elias' boyfriend," I stated. "Now, if you'd excuse me, we must be off."
I hugged the small alpha close to my body on the opposite side of his boss. I could feel his hot stare on my back as we passed. I made a mental note to call the company to report him. Deep down, I knew this little mouse would devour the lion's den.
We arrived at the cafe ten minutes later and entered the warm, welcoming atmosphere.
"Welcome to Moon Haven Cafe—oh, Mr. Tempest!" the owner, Mrs. Haven, beamed once we entered the store. She hopped over the counter, with her baby bump slightly visible through the thin apron. "Come in, sweetie; I got fresh coffee for you and your brother."
I smiled. "You're a goddess."
Mrs.Haven tilts her head when my new companion tries to peel himself away from me. I almost forgot that I had him wrapped tightly to my side. It nearly felt natural to have him so close.
"Um, thanks for the save earlier," he said, glancing up at me with the most beautiful eyes I've ever laid eyes on. One eye: inky black. So dark you couldn't see his pupils. The other is rare lavender.
"Don't mention it," I replied. " Why don't we sit here for a while? I have someone meeting me in a little bit. Then we can take you home."
He tried to decline the offer, but Mrs. Haven vouched for me: "He's a good one, honey. Let him take you home." Her eyes then glared out the glass door. More than likely, that creep had followed us here. Peeking behind me, the little mouse shrunk back quickly, confirming my suspicions.
"Thank you, um-"
"Onyx Tempest," I said.
"Thank you, Mr. Tempest. I'm Elias Wolfe."
I almost snorted at Wolfe's last name, if only his personality fit the name. To me, he's a cute, timid mouse.
We sat in my favorite booth in the back of the café. It's a cozy little spot that made me feel secure and allowed me to monitor my surroundings. I insisted Elias order something; I could hear his stomach growling from across the table. He blushed out of embarrassment. He ordered a sandwich and some tea while I got my daily dose of caffeinated sugar.
Buzz buzz buzz
His phone goes off. Elias takes it out to look at it and frowns. His scent is sour to the senses. He drops his head on the table in defeat, his phone clattering on the surface. In bold letters, the screen reads, "YOU'RE FIRED!"
"f**k, what am I going to tell Pa," he groans.
"Couldn't you call the company and tell them about the false termination?" I inquired.
He scoffed. "The bastard is friends with the hire-ups. He's done it before."
The door chimes and enters my older twin brother, Zephyr.

I entered the cafe, exhausted and yearning for warm coffee. Mrs. Haven waved when I entered the welcoming atmosphere and pointed to the back of the room. I looked over to see my younger twin brother sitting at the booth and a stranger across from him.
I bee-lined to the table, curious about the strange man. From the scent alone, I could determine that he was an alpha, albeit a small one. Alpha's are more common for being tall and more athletic. Rarely, there's a case of dainty little alpha's. Well, I shouldn't talk; Onyx and I are abnormal, too.
My younger brother, Onyx, has warm ivory skin, sapphire eyes, and jet-black hair, usually pulled in a man bun. He stands about five feet and nine inches tall, an inch below me. His build is about average, with a bit of muscle mass that can be seen through his suit.
I have warm bronze skin, gold hazel eyes, and long, curly, dark brown hair with copper highlights. Due to my job, I'm more built and taller than he is. I have to be at my physical best in the industry we run.
"Nyx, who's the stray?" I asked jokingly, causing the more petite man to snap his head up at me in shock.
"Zep, you can't just call people strays," Onyx said, although he couldn't help but c***k a smile. "This is Elias."
"Hello, you must be his brother," Elias said, holding his hand for a shake, "Mr.Tempest helped me out of a situation mere moments ago."
I put his smaller hand in mine and gave Onyx a questioning glance. His eyes said that he'd tell me later. "I was thinking we could use a new assistant," He started.
At that moment, Mrs. Has came over and gave me my expresso. I then took a seat next to Onyx, a bit intrigued. "It's kinda of my fault that he got fired in the first place," Onyx admitted.
"What about your PA?" I questioned. Stacey has been working with Onyx for a little over a year now.
"As much as I would like to keep Stacey as my PA, she's going to have a baby soon," he explained. Ah, that makes perfect sense.
"Tanika has spoken to me about her health, and with this line of work, I do not wish to put any more strain on her body."
"Um, what type of business do you work for anyways?" Elias asked.
I grinned "M and M."
He tilts his head in confusion. "As in the candy?"
I busted out laughing; this man was too cute. Onyx slapped me on the shoulder, noting Elias's embarrassment. I coughed into my fist before explaining that we own a marketing and modeling business. Our parents do, but we also participate in the significant stuff.
"So, how do I fit into all this?" The alpha asked.
"I am more than likely to need help with scheduling and paperwork," Onyx stated.
"And I will need a model for my designs here and there. Or just someone to get my legal drug. It's coffee, I promise," I added.
"You'll be paid twenty-five dollars an hour and five days a week. You'll work two and a half days with me and the rest with Zephyr," my brother finished. "What do you say?"
Elias's eyes almost bulged outta his head at the salary. He pondered momentarily, looking between us as if hoping this wasn't a prank. Judging by the dark circles under his eyes, his last job gave him little rest. Elias puts out his hands for each of us with a small smile, "Thank you. You have no idea what this means to me."
We shook each hand firmly. "Welcome aboard; we're looking forward to working with you."
