MICKEY AND TED arrived in Chris’s room a little after seven the next morning and found him wide awake and alert.
“You must be feeling a lot better,” Mickey said, after he kissed Chris.
“Actually, I am. I probably shouldn’t be, but I am.”
“Why shouldn’t you be feeling a lot better?”
“Compared to my surgery last year, my recovery is way ahead of the curve,” Chris said.
“Is that an official opinion from your surgeon or your personal assessment?”
“The latter, obviously. My current surgeon has no way of knowing what my progress was last year.”
“Your medical records don’t tell him that?” Mickey said.
“Not in enough detail to make that kind of comparison.”
“Does the fact that you’re feeling so much better mean you’ll be coming home sooner than you thought?”
