Zora's Perspective The woods were hazy and cloudy but I knew what was best for me was not to stop or I would meet my end. I was in the middle of nowhere. Knowing I was simply ignored and hated in this Pack, my end would be the happiness of many. “What are you doing?! Get her!” Came Adele's voice as she urged her friends or should I say her underlings after me in a hot chase. “I’m trying! She's too fast,” Mary said in between pants, bending down to catch her breath before adding, “Shouldn't she be an omega?” Well, I wasn't. “I don't care! Get her, you imbecile!” came Adele's scream, making Mary continue her hot chase. As I looked back, I noticed Sophie was drawing really close and I decided to add more speed, trying really hard not to use my werewolf powers because I didn't want to reveal who I really was. “Stop! Slow… down…” Sophie said but I couldn't stop, I wasn't ready to face the wrath of the school drama queen; Adele if she caught up to me. So, I added more speed, giving them space, one that could take them time to reach me. I finally reached the school compound to find it empty. The bell must have rung for the beginning of lectures and it's best if I went to class, they wouldn't bully me there… right? Looking back to see if they were close, I kept running until I ran into a wall, making me fall on the floor with a thud. Using my hand to rub my forehead as the impact sent pain through me, I looked up to see him. Alpha Damien Darius. He was a notable Alpha of this Pack and a very charming young man. He had the physique of the gods and the face of models. His blonde hair cascades to his shoulder and his blue eyes, alluring while his pink lips were inviting. “Are you okay? Here,” he offered me his hands to take it which I did and immediately, just that touch sent some weird tingles over my body, making me blush. “Th… thank you…” I stuttered. I mean, who wouldn't? He was every girl's dream even though Adele always claimed him as his. I looked at him to see a flush of what looked like a blush? Was he blushing? But suddenly, it changed to a smirk. He was definitely my type which was why I had a massive crush on him. I made my way to leave but his dreamy voice stopped me in my tracks, saying, “Hey… Uhm…” He rubbed the back of his head with his hand as he smiled like a child caught on the act. “Yes…” “So… I'm having my birthday party tonight and would love you to be there, that's if you don't mind.” My mouth fell open on hearing him speak. Alpha Damien is inviting me to his birthday? Oh my goddess! I squeaked internally as my wolf, Due danced within me. “I… I…” “Here's the invite,” he started, placing the small invitation card on my palm. “I'd like to see you there cause there's something I have to tell you. Be there, please…?” He stretched the please and totally looked cute. “Okay,” I nodded, matching his charming smile and he walked off while I gazed at his retreating back in utter disbelief. “You!” Adele's voice brought me back to reality and I immediately ran to class. The rest of the school day was filled with a mixture of joy and confusion. Confusion because this was the first time Alpha Damien ever spoke to me and he was inviting me to his birthday party? I was glad because he was rarely in the midst of my kind- the supposed nerds who are bullied, trampled on by Adele and even his friends. “You can't possibly be serious, Zee!” My best friend Anna exclaimed after I told her I was going to Damien's birthday. I had returned home to see an usually empty house. My parents were out on a trip and had asked our butler to send me a cake. “It's your birthday. We had planned on getting wasted in the club and you could see your mate there, also …” “I know Anna but this is a dream come through. You know I have a huge crush on him and he said he wanted to tell me something. So, this is my chance,” I said, trying hard to convince her to let me go. We had a back and forth but I managed to successfully get her off my back. Sometimes she acts like a big sister. Sheesh! I boarded a cab and in no time, I was in front of Alpha Damien's house… or should I say, mansion. I looked around, admiring the class it exuded. I looked up to the sky, I noticed it was almost full moon and I knew once it was full moon, there was a high tendency that I could meet my mate. As I entered, I could already see very horny teenagers making out while it reeked of alcohol with a very loud music blasting in the background. “Hey, you're here. This way, the Alpha has been waiting for you,” a lady in a maid's uniform shouted so I could hear her and I nodded, following her. We approached a secluded area of the mansion that seemed more quiet and peaceful and then she opened the door, ushering me to go in. Immediately I stepped into the dark room, it lit up. There was a small table in the middle which held a campaign and delicious looking dish. It looked really nice and cute with red petals all over and largely engraved words on the wall; Will You Be Mine? “Do you like it?” I heard from behind me and I turned to meet his blue eyes. “You… This is for me?” I was stunned. “Of course! I've been meaning to tell you for a while now. So, do you like it?” “Well… yes… yes!” I exclaimed, hugging him tightly. Is this really happening? I never thought he liked me this way? He never looked my way until now? I have to gist Anna! “Come on… Let's go eat,” he held my hands and led me to the table where he helped me to sit down. He settled down himself and we started to dine while getting to know each other better. ‘This feels too good to be true, Zora,’ my wolf said but I ignored her. She could wait for now, let me savor this moment. “There's something on your lip,” he said in between chuckles, making me smile, slightly embarrassed. “Uhn… where?” I asked, returning his smiles. He stood up and came close to me, using a napkin to wipe it off. Our eyes locked and in that moment, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by him, his kind gesture, his aura and most importantly, his kissable lips. As if on cue, he started drawing closer and I knew what it meant, so I closed my eyes, waiting for his lips to crash on mine when Due started jumping excitedly inside me. I perceived the alluring scent that suddenly flooded my nose and then I heard; “Mate!” Immediately, I felt cold overtake me as a bucket of cold water was splashed on me, making me jump up in fear, my eyes widened in shock. “What the heck!” I exclaimed but was met with the sounds of laughter emanating from Adele, her lackeys and Alpha Damien's friends. “I… I can't believe you thought this was real,” Adele said in between laughter, “You wish!” “I told you, she has a thing for you!” Beta Ray started, “That'll be a hundred dollars,” he said, stretching his hands towards Alpha Damien who looked stunned and was quiet. I c****d my head to the side as I looked at him, remembering what I felt - the mate bond. But then, it started to add up. “This was a bet?” I asked, surprised. “What did you think it was? Did you think my man actually likes a nerd, a nobody, like you?” “I… Damien?” He looked at me apologetically and then looked away. “Since you've made it easy for us by foolishly coming here, I'll teach you a lesson for earlier today,” She snapped her hands and added, “Girls! Get her!” I made an attempt to run but it was too late. They grabbed me by both sides and pinned me down to the floor as I knelt in front of them. Adele strode towards me, white substance in hands. She stood in front of me and towered over me, attempting to pour whatever that crystal clear substance was on me. “Wait!” Alpha Damien's voice commanded, halting her on her tracks. “What?” Adele was flabbergasted and so was all of us. He walked up to me and helped me up before saying, “You will not harm her, understood?” “Ba… babe… what are you doing?” “For the umpteenth time, I am not your babe and you will not pour that acid on her, got it?!” Adele flinched and so did everyone. “Y… yes Alpha!” “Alpha! Your presence is needed,” the maid from before called and he held me as we walked out. “Marie, give me a second,” he said to her and she left. “I can explain…” “You were going to allow them pour me accid? Wait, this was all a game to you? I was in a secluded study but I was tired. I didn't want to know what explanation he was going to give and I just wanted to go home. So, I walked out and started my journey back home until… “You should have just remained in your stupid lane,” Adele said, piercing me with a dagger, a dagger laced with wolfsbane. I fell on the ground, folding myself in a ball as the poison started coaxing into my bloodstream, causing me intense pain while my heartbeat palpitated. Suddenly, my eyes become heavy and sluggishly, I succumbed to the cold hands of oblivion.
