Chapter 4: Nadine POV

550 Words
Chapter 4: Nadine POV The moment I saw the new guy I wanted him. He was tall and good-looking, much better than the wimp whom I rejected a few months ago. Daddy said that our family only deserves the best and that lame nerd Joey was far from it. I immediately introduced myself, putting on my best face. Thank Goddess I got up early this morning and did my makeup. He said his name is Brody. He isn't very talkative but that's okay. When you have biceps like his and blue eyes like gemstones you can be mute for all I care. I insisted he meet me at lunch. I was going to make him mine and the first step was to lay claim to him. The other girls had to know he was off limits. During lunch Brody told me more about himself. He is a half breed but he exudes the aura of a powerful wolf which is strange since he claims to not have a wolf. He smells just like any other half breed I've ever met which is a mix of human and nature. Most wolves have a unique scent while half's and humans have a generic scent that makes them easily identifiable. I caught him looking at Cayleigh, my brother's mate, which did not make me happy. I made sure to emphasize how she was already taken by my alpha brother when that bubble brain Katie said she didn't think they were actual mates. Yeah, sure Cayleigh didn't look at Ayden with love but the pairing made sense so I assumed it was just their personalities clashing. By the end of Brody's first day at our school I had everyone convinced he was mine. "Is he youe mate?" Katie asked me. She was so annoying. "I don't know yet. I may need to kiss him to find out," I said, grinning like the Cheshire cat. The next day I tracked him down again at his locker. I decided that would be my morning routine. I'd run into him at his locker. It was easy to find and he would have to be there at the same time everyday. "Good morning, handsome," I said to him, laying it on thick as if my voice was laced with sugar. He looked at me surprised. He was adorable. "Good morning, Nadine," he said, his tone neutral. I grabbed his strong arm and said, "I'm taking you off campus for lunch today." His eyes shown discomfort. "What? You don't want to hang out with me? Am I not good enough for you?" I asked, my hands on my hips. I'd play the guilt card if I had to. His face reddened with embarrassment. He was easy to read. "Nadine, don't be like that. I'm just not used to this type of attention. In New York I had to work hard to make friends and here it's like people are fighting over me like I'm a toy. It's really uncomfortable." His words were dripping with sincerity and anxiety. "I forgive you, now get your books and I will walk you to class. We are all about hospitality here in the South. You'll get used to it." He nodded and smiled awkwardly. I laughed internally. I would make him accept me.
