Chapter 3: Brody POV

Chapter 3: Brody POV I started at my new school on the outskirts of the pack land the day after the move. I held my breath as I walked through the doors for the first time. I'd never moved before so I didn't know how to be the "new kid." Wolves rarely moved unless they were rogue. I arrived to a hallway full of people, mostly wolves with some humans mixed in. Some stared, some glared, and some avoided. I was sure I was going to be alone until a peppy dark-haired girl in a cheerleading uniform approached me. "Oh my gosh, you are so cute!" She said, beaming a smile at me. She grabbed the sleeve of my letterman jacket from my old school and squeezed my bicep. She seemed impressed. Suddenly she introduced herself. "I'm Nadine Cummings, Alpha Marcus's daughter. What's your name?" I stared at her, confused. Girls at my old school never seemed this forward. "Brody Carlson," I answered, trying not to be rude. It would never be good to get on the Alpha family's bad side. Nadine told me I was her lunch date and to meet her in the cafeteria later. How or why? I don't know. My first class was torture. Not because it was math. I was always good at math. The blonde girl with beautiful eyes was there with her mate. They sat next to each other in the front row. He kept his hand on her knee. I sat in the back. Every time I looked in their direction I felt a pang of pain and jealousy. Luckily math was the only morning class I had with the couple that made my heart hurt. Lunch was weird. The moment I walked into the cafeteria Nadine grabbed my hand and dragged me to a table full of cheerleaders. They all gazed at me with big eyes like they had never seen a boy before. "So what's your deal? You half?" One girl asked. Her name was Ada and she had red hair and an unwavering scowl on her face. She wasn't as enthused as the other girls. I nodded, "My dad is a wolf and my mom is human," I said. Ada looked me up and down. "You're pretty cute for a human." I just stared. I'm not used to this type of attention. "You are definitely the hottest human here," Nadine said, putting her hand on my chest. I felt my eyes widen but I kept my forced smile. I wasn't looking to offend anyone but this was too much. "Th-thank you," I managed to say, hiding my discomfort. My day got even more uncomfortable when I saw the unnamed blonde staring at me. She had a hurt look on her face as she stared from across the cafeteria. It made me feel like I was somehow cheating. I didn't know her. I didn't even know her name. I asked Nadine and the other cheerleaders. "That's Cayleigh Storm, the Beta's daughter. She is Alpha Ayden's mate," Ada said. Another girl, Katie, leaned in and said, "I don't think they are actually mates. She looks at him like she is scared of him, maybe even hates him." Nadine scowled at Katie. "She is too my brother's mate! He said he felt the bond since they were kids." I stared at the table. So her name was Cayleigh and she was mated to the future Alpha. Of course. I must be insane to think I was somehow fated to meet her.
