CHAPTER 4

"What could that have been?" Aveline also started to think about it, the same way as Casper explained to her in the car. Aveline was allowed to meet the girl as she was asking for the person who saved her. Maybe she would get a chance to know what had actually happened but she had no will to hear that it was the anonymous umbrella man. She slowly pushed the glass door of the observation room to see the girl tucked in the blanket and some machines connected to her. "I heard you asked for me." She spoke as she sat next to the girl with a soft smile. "Hmm." The girl just responded with a hum as she pulled out a ring from under the pillow. She placed the gold metaled ring with something engraved on Aveline's hand and left out a sigh of freedom. The ring looked really old, like in the middle of eighteenth century because she has worn something similar to it those days. The letters engraved were scratched a little making it hard for her to figure out what it really read. "It was written as H." The girl said as if she understood what it meant. "Hmm, why are you giving me this?" Aveline wanted to ask her what had actually happened there but as doctor said, maybe it would trigger her again. "I am scared to keep it. Can you throw it away for me?" She asked but her eyes were pleading. "Hmm, who gave you this? Why were you in that forest?" Somehow curiosity is always louder than the requirement because Aveline wanted to know what really happened. She knew the forest really well and no one usually risks to go in their as it was believed to be haunted by some spirits. Aveline has encountered some of them and she asked their help to find the truth about her life for which they answered 'as time passes, the key will find it's way to you.' "Please, don't ask me anything else." She said before closing her eyes as she fell asleep or maybe a way to avoid the next question. Aveline was not much interested in making someone say their side of story for no much reason. She has nothing to do with it and so does Casper making it clear that, she should take her leave. The ring was still dangling in her pinky finger as she walked out to the gentle breeze which awaited her. Her phone finally made a noise that got her back to senses or else she surely would have run into the middle of the road. It was Casper as she had expected but what would she tell him? She didn't pick the call because she needed few minutes to process the things and lie to him or else he would bash into the hospital on his own. She walked to her car when the phone rang once again making his groan. At some point, he was really jobless according to her because he is best at spamming even in the middle of his shoot. She turned off her phone and threw it in the back seat before driving off to her flat. Little did she know what was awaiting here. . . . She walked up to her door with mind full of unwanted thoughts about the man in umbrella. She didn't even notice that some one was waiting for her right by the door side until she literally bumped on the thick figure. Aveline could recognize the person from the smell, the smell of fresh vanilla which she had taken in a lot. "Jacob, what brings you here?" She asked looking up at the man who had a grin in his face. "Aveline Park just broke a rule." "I didn't mean to break any rule but it was on my watch that she cried for help." Aveline answered the man unbothered while unlocking the door. "Haven't I warned you not to save anyone who is supposed to die? The fact that you still roam around earth pisses me off to the core and now interfering in my work." He walked in without waiting for an invitation. "You could have chosen any other place. Why did you take her to that forest out of all other places in the world?" Aveline kept down her bag and went to take a soda from the cooler. "I warned you, I stopped you in the middle." He snatched the drink from her and threw a file on the counter op. Aveline read the tag on it and sighed because she had seen the files endless number of time, just the fact the volume of the file keeping going up. She looked at Jacob and then at the drinks which he held tightly before proceeding to take another one for her. Jacob flashed in front of the cooler with an angrier face because rejecting and ignoring him is something that he wouldn't endure. "I didn't know it was you. I didn't see you or else I would have changed my paths. The person whom I hates to ever see in this world is only you so I wouldn't run into you." She scoffed before pushing him off her way. "The day, I get to take you with me would come soon. I hope you die in the worst way." He said showing off his expensive pen in the air. "I can't believe you are the grim reaper and you are the one who takes the death to after life." Aveline huffed as she plopped on the couch. "Seriously, I hope you come to me soon. And if you again try to save anyone who is supposed to die, I will kill you by myself." He said before passing through the door and disappearing. "This man scared the s**t out of Casper." Aveline was now confident about calling her friend and telling him what had actually happened but she didn't need to. The door banged open and a man walked inside and literally jumped on the couch next to her with red eyes. She sighed and gave the soda to him which he snatched from her and finished in a gulp. Aveline loosed the wrap around her neck and was about to place it on the table but he pulled it to him, causing her to lean to his side. "Why did you ignore my calls?" He asked straight to her face. "I was not ignoring, Casper." "Then why did you cut my call and then you even had the thought of switching it off." He shouted as he let go off the scarf. "It was nothing, my phone basically died and when you called I was talking to the doctor." She lied once again not knowing what else to tell him. "What actually happened there? Wasn't it the umbrella man whom I saw?" He asked but his eyes screamed that he was sure of the answers. "Seriously, I did not see any umbrella man there and I assume it was just your thoughts because you have been talking about it." Aveline tried to act all cool to not get caught. "You are telling me that I am mad and hallucinating?" "No, you were already stressed with work and that man took some of your thoughts, yet again causing you to feel that way. There was no one like that and she was just lost in that forest, got scared and hurt." Aveline said as she patted his back to calm him down. "I am not taking this lie. I really saw a man there." He kept muttering, wanting to prove his point and all she could do was to watch him pathetically.
