The spectators watched in shock as Daisy almost slipped from the ledge. They were growing in number now as they all gathered around, anxious and seemed to await her next move.
Daisy's Dad fumed, he turned to his wife and said; “Get a grip on your daughter.”
Daisy managed to get her bearings on the ledge and stood upright. She was an emotional mess.
“Daisy...” her mum sobbed, staring at her with tear-rimmed eyes. “Please don't do this to us. You're overreacting." Her tears ignited something in Daisy, and for a moment, she almost felt remorseful that she almost slipped again, this time eliciting a collective gasp from the onlookers.
Her Dad rushed forward only to wobble on his feet and slumped. His body was motionless. Her mum gasped, her eyes wide as panic settled on her every being. Rushing to him, she bent over, confusion etched on her face.
Daisy was bewildered, unable to understand the situation. One moment, she was trying to take her own life, and the next moment, her Dad lay, almost lifeless.
Her mother patted him, “Steve? Steve?”
She shook his arms but he remained, unmoving. She placed a hand on his chest to check for his breathing but could hardly find one.
Daisy stood there, perplexed. The shock of the matter rooted her to the spot.
Her mum stood and walked over to her, stretching her hands.
“Come on, Daisy, I can't afford to lose you both. This is not the time."
Daisy looked like she was in a trance, she'd almost forgotten she was about to take her life.
“What! She blinked.
“Please step over the ledge.” her mum said. In just a few minutes, her face was full of wrinkles.
Gingerly and carefully, Daisy stepped off the ledge, holding her mum's hands for support, and finally climbed down on the roof.
She ran to her Dad, falling on her knees beside him. “Dad...” she shook him, willing him to rise.
“Dad, please wake up. Please. I'm sorry.” She said, resting her head on his chest, and was relieved when she heard the slight beat of his heart.
“He's breathing. He's breathing, Mum.”
*****
The family doctor stood over him in the dimly lit room, where Daisy's father lay. His breathing was back to normal now.
Daisy was sitting at the edge of the bed while her Mum stood beside her.
“How is he, doctor?” Asked Daisy.
“He's stable, for now. He'll be up soon." He replied, with a passive expression, putting his medical materials in his suitcase. He sighed, rubbing his eyes.
“But…he has an underlying health condition that would require him to stay away from activities that would trigger his emotions or cause him stress.”
“Also, he should refrain from shifting into his wolf form in the meantime.” Daisy's mum peeked up at that.
“What?...that is absurd. How could he survive without his wolf? How is he supposed to go for runs? You know how important that is."
“I understand. I think his wolf should survive a few days without shifting."
He gave some further advice and eventually left.
Daisy's father woke, and she could not stop apologizing over and over again.
A knock sounded at the door. Her mum asked, furrowing her brows. “Did he forget something?” she asked.
Daisy went to the door and was surprised to see a middle-aged man at the doorstep.
“Are you Daisy Sinclair? He asked.
She tilted her head, her eyebrows furrowing.
“Uhm….yes? I am". She said, rather skeptical.
The man nodded and brought out a notepad. “You are required to sign here, ma'am. She did, and he offered her a delivery package in a white customized bag.
Daisy was surprised. She thanked him and went in, wondering who could have sent her a parcel. As far as she knew, she wasn't expecting anything nor had she ordered any sort of package.
Initially, she presumed he must have gotten the wrong address, but there was no way he could have guessed her full name.
Slowly, she opened the parcel and a note fell out.
Can't wait to see you clad in these, my little bride.
Her expression instantly morphed into a solemn one, suddenly remembering she had a wedding tomorrow.
Tentatively, she gradually opened the parcel, revealing a long silver-colored dress with beads adorned at all the right places. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Beyond herself, she exclaimed excitedly.
“Oh my God.” She breathed out.
As much as she wouldn't want to admit it, the dress was spectacular.
Feeling the softness of the fabric, she suddenly felt like trying it out.
*****
Daisy stood, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her eyes glazed over as she felt the softness of her wedding dress which she was now putting on.
It was her wedding today, and she couldn't help but feel a cluster of emotions. One moment she was feeling sad, pitiful even, and the next moment she couldn't wait to walk down the aisle, flaunting the gorgeous dress.
Walking down the aisle with him simply means her chance of ever finding her true mate is shattered, not to mention Luna's duties that await her.
She turned slightly, admiring herself. The dress felt so light on her. It was so beautiful that it accentuated her curves at the right places, its color giving a nice shade to her skin.
She knew it had come from him. The rumors about him described him as an arrogant, ruthless billionaire, void of any feelings.
A knock sounded on the door, interrupting her thoughts. Her mum peeked in and gasped. Smiling, she walked into the room, closing the door behind her.
“You look gorgeous dear.” She said
Daisy smiled, still staring at her reflection. She turned, facing her mum, who held her hands.
“Look at me, Daisy. You look beautiful. Refrain from having any negative thoughts and just focus on today. Please, be happy. Okay?" She implored.
I'm fine, Mum. I mean… I'm here, right? I have no choice." She shrugged, in defeat.
“Alright dear, finish up. The ceremony is about to begin." She patted her and then left the room.
She turned back to the mirror, readjusting her dress, willing herself to be composed.
A knock sounded at the door. Again.
It creaked open…
Daisy sighed, rolling her eyes.
“Mum, I told you I'd be out in a mo…..” but the words were caught in her throat, her eyes widening.
Right there in the mirror's reflection was Alexander Roberts in his full regalia. He was putting on a white suit.
Daisy had never seen him up close. Although she had come across his pictures on magazine covers, she had never seen him so real.
The time he had approached her Dad to discuss the marriage deal, she had been running an errand and couldn't meet him until he left.
He was handsome. She had always known. But the magazine did not do justice to the beautiful man standing before her.
“You…I…what…” she made to speak but stuttered instead. Clearing her throat, she became all too conscious of herself. It didn't help that the man standing before her was staring, like he was accessing her, using those captivating eyes that tend to make others feel intimidated. But in Daisy's case, she felt naked.
He smirked like he could read her thoughts. “Cat got your tongue, little bride?”
His voice was deep and rich, resonating through her entire body. It got her almost wetting her panties.
He came closer, watching her through the reflection, taking her in.
Daisy swallowed. She cleared her throat again. “What are you doing here… Alpha?” she asked.
He took out something from his pockets. “I'm here…” he placed a shiny diamond necklace on her neck. “To see...” He clasped it, his hands gently brushing over her skin, causing a shiver to run down her spine.
“My mate.”
Realizing how beautiful she is. He moved a strand of hair from her face, hugged her from behind, and kissed her on the neck.
Daisy shivered, waves of pleasure hitting her. He sucked on her nape, eliciting a treacherous moan from her. And in a swift moment, he grabbed her waist and turned her around as she landed squarely in his arms.
His eyes shone a darker shade, his wolf already on the surface, wanting more.
“You need to leave,” she said, through gritted teeth, angry at herself for feeling these emotions.
He stared at her, his eyelids flickering over her lips.
“I can't wait to have you as my mate.”
I am NOT your m…..” his fingers brushed her lips, clamping her mouth shut.
“Careful, little bride. You don't want others hearing you… "
