CHAPTER 31 — Trapped in the Predator’s Den

Cold. That was the first thing Kaela felt when consciousness clawed her back from the void. Her wrists burned. Her breath hitched as she realized— she was tied. Straps locking her to an unfamiliar bed, arms spread, ankles restrained against cold metal. A dim single light flickered above her like a dying heartbeat. Her pulse roared. Her vision spun. She forced herself to breathe. Stay calm. Stay smart. A slow clap echoed from the darkness. “Well… the princess finally wakes.” Adrian stepped into the light. Tall. Sharp. Eyes like venom — a wicked mix of triumph and hatred. Not a shadow. Not a myth. A man. “You…” Kaela’s voice cracked with fear and fury. “What do you want?” He crouched beside the bed, fingers grazing the restraints — testing them, enjoying the sight of her trapped. “What I’ve always wanted.” His grin was razor-edged. “To bury the Blackwood bloodline… and you’re my perfect leverage.” Kaela yanked at the straps, expression icy. “I’ll never help you.” “You already have.” Adrian leaned close, cruel amusement dripping from every word. “Vionn is coming for you. And when he does… he’ll walk right into my hands.” Kaela’s chest tightened. “You think he cares enough to risk everything?” Adrian’s voice dropped, poisonous and slow. “That man once failed to protect the woman he loved. Adriana died screaming his name… and he couldn’t save her.” Kaela’s breath stopped. Adrian smiled — a monster who fed on pain. “So now he’s obsessed with you. Desperate. Reckless.” He tapped her chin mockingly. “And I will use that love he’s terrified to admit… to destroy him.” Kaela’s teeth clenched. She spit the words like fire: “He will destroy you first.” For the first time… Adrian’s smile faltered. But only for a heartbeat. He stood, signaling to one of his masked guards. “Watch her closely. She’s more valuable than a crown.” The guard nodded, taking position near the iron door. Before leaving, Adrian paused — turning back with a chilling smirk. “Oh, and Kaela?” His eyes glinted with cruel confidence. “If you try to run again… I’ll make sure Vionn arrives too late a second time.” The metal door slammed shut — locking Kaela inside a nightmare. Silence pressed in. Shadows lurked in every corner. Her wrists throbbed. Her body shook. But her eyes burned with fight. Vionn was coming. He had to be. Kaela inhaled sharply — steeling her courage. “I won’t break,” she whispered into the darkness. Even if she was terrified. Even if she was bleeding inside. She was Kaela Vionn. And she would survive long enough for her husband to tear the world apart for her.
