CHAPTER 33 — “His Sick Obsession”

590 Words
Kaela’s wrists burned where the ropes cut into her skin. The room smelled like damp concrete and old metal—like a forgotten grave. Adrian sat on the edge of the bed she was tied to, his shadow stretching long over her like a predator savoring the moment before the kill. His fingers hovered near her cheek— too close… too familiar… and Kaela jerked her face away with all the strength she had left. “Don’t touch me,” she hissed. Adrian froze. His jaw ticked. “You sound just like her.” His voice was eerily soft… almost nostalgic. “Adriana said those same words the day she betrayed me for your precious Vionn.” Kaela glared, breath trembling in fury and fear. “She didn’t betray you. You destroyed her.” For a flash—just a heartbeat—Kaela saw something break in his eyes. But then cruelty replaced it. “I loved her,” he said— a sick, twisted version of love. “And now you carry her place.” He leaned closer— too close— his breath brushing her temple. Kaela tried to pull backward, the ropes tightening painfully. “You’re insane,” she spat. “I will never be yours.” Adrian laughed—quiet, unhinged. “You still think you have a choice?” He grabbed her chin, fingers digging in— keeping her still when she tried to turn away. Kaela’s heart slammed against her ribs— fear trying to swallow her whole. But she wouldn’t break. “You can’t force someone to love you,” she said, voice shaky but strong. His grip loosened. Just a fraction. “No,” he admitted. “But I can take what should have always belonged to me.” She tensed— a spark of terror igniting. “Vionn isn’t coming for you,” Adrian whispered, dark satisfaction dripping from every word. “He’s too late. Just like last time.” Kaela’s breath caught— her pulse a roar in her ears. He brushed a strand of hair from her face— obsessed, fixated, cruel. “That woman died screaming his name…” His lips twisted into a chilling smile. “…and so will you if he dares to come for you.” Kaela’s blood turned to ice. But she forced herself to meet his eyes. “I don’t scream,” she whispered. “I fight.” Adrian’s smile sharpened. “Oh… that’s what I’m counting on.” He dragged the back of his knuckles down her jawline— and she flinched again, refusing to give him the reaction he wanted. His voice dropped into a low threat. “Soon, Kaela… you will understand that your life… your body… your destiny— belongs to me.” She spat in his face. He recoiled—rage flaring. And Kaela smiled, even tied down. “You will NEVER own me.” Adrian wiped his cheek slowly, darkness swirling in his stare. “You’re strong,” he murmured. “Good. Strength makes the breaking so much more satisfying.” He stood and motioned to the guards by the door. “Make sure she doesn’t go anywhere. I want her awake when I come back.” The guards grabbed the door and closed it behind him— the lock clicking like a tiny gunshot. Kaela’s breathing trembled— But she held onto one truth: Vionn would come. Vionn would burn the world for her. And Adrian had no idea just how close that fire already was.
