"Stop!"
I'm screaming at the top of my voice.
But Malone doesn't stop. He keeps cussing at Blade, throwing one punch after the other.
With a bleeding mouth, Blade starts to punch Malone hard and furiously. Malone still too strong for him, he opts to kick his groin.
Malone winces and moves back, sneering at Blade.
"Son of a b***h!"
My brother cusses as he pounces on Blade, sprawling like two wild cheetahs on the rough ground. Panting and wincing, they roll on the ground, feeding each other hard punches to the head and neck.
Malone is nose-bleeding and Blade too. But that doesn't stop them.
"Stop! Please!" I cry.
I try pulling Malone away but he pushes me off of him, his eyes sizzling with rage.
The door to our house slings open.
Lex and Wendy jump out, approaching the wrestling ground with horror in their eyes.
Behind them is Wayne, his long dreadlocks flaring in the air as he bolts to separate Blade and Malone.
I sigh when Wayne manages to break off the two. They are both panting heavily, their fists clenched, craving to pounce on each other again.
Blade wipes off the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand. Malone presses a handkerchief over his nose to ease the bleeding.
"Son of a b***h!"
Blade glares at him.
"You're the b***h, you stinky ass bastard!"
Malone is ready to strike again but Wayne blocks him with his huge physique.
"Can you stop it already, you two? This is not college! We are no longer kids! So cut this childish act and act like grown men!"
Blade scoffs.
"How can you tell a b***h to act like a man? It's impossible!"
Malone tries to strike Blade but again, Wayne blocks his way and tries to calm him down.
"Blade, is that your car?" Wendy asks abruptly.
"Nice to see you too, Wendy."
"Well, if it is, I suggest you start the engine and disappear because your presence is CLEARLY not needed."
He smirks. "I missed you too, Wendy."
Wayne looks at Blade. "Dude, you should just leave. I'm sure you've got better things to do."
For some reason, Blade gazes at me as if seeking for my permission to leave.
I clear my throat.
"Goodnight, Blade," I mutter.
He grits his teeth, his jaw swollen. He shifts his gaze from me to my twin brother,
"You'll pay for this, bitch."
Malone spits, "I don't give a f**k! Just stay away from Mabel!"
Blade grins at me despite his swollen bleeding mouth and winks.
"See you love, Goodnight."
Blade slides in the car and speeds away.
"What the f**k, Mabel!" Malone bellows in rage.
I stare at him silently for one whole minute, my eyes not blinking even once.
With that, I turn and stomp to the house, Lex closely following behind.
Wendy and Wayne are murmuring about something and Malone is rushing behind to catch up with me.
I stomp even faster and slam the door behind me, I don't care if that hurts him. I'm headed to my bedroom when Malone grips my wrist.
"I'm talking to you, dumb doughnut!"
I push him off of me. "Don't touch me!"
"What the f**k! Mabel!"
"No! What the f**k Malone!" I snap. "What the f**k was that?"
"I should be the one asking you what the f**k was that!" He yells. "You're back with that devil again? Huh!"
Lex shuts the door. "What? What do you mean she's back together with him?"
Wendy and Wayne are standing silently, all of them waiting for my brother's response.
"The queen herself should tell us..."
I glance at all of them and roll my eyes. "I'm not back together with Blade."
"Well, it sure looked like it when I caught the both of you!"
"It was just a hug!"
"With his hands allover you?"
I roll my eyes. "One thing I won't do is explain myself to you!"
Wendy intrudes, her hands crossed against her chest.
"He drove you here?"
"Yeah..."
"So you two have been together all this time that we've been calling you?"
"It's a long story... and my battery must have died."
Malone grits his teeth. "So the both of you were together?"
"It's not what you think! This will sound cooked up but I was at a bar drinking with Miguel when Axel shows up and comes to our table and before you know it..." my voice breaks.
"He's strangling me and..." A lump burns my throat. "And blaming me for his wife leaving him. Next thing you know, Blade is beating him up and throwing him to the ground. He calls an uber for Miguel and offers to give me a ride home. End of story."
Malone narrows his eyes at me. "I don't believe you..."
"I don't remember asking you to," I scoff.
They are all staring at me silently and pitifully.
"That Axel is an asshole!" Wendy exclaims. "But that doesn't make Blade much less of an asshole. Not after everything he's done to you, Mabel."
"Exactly." My brother adds. "Knock some sense into her stupid head, please!"
I am so angry at Malone that I decide to stay quiet and just let him be.
He's been out of town for a couple of months for business and I had missed him. But after what he has done tonight, I don't think I miss him anymore. God! I'm so angry at him.
I glance at Wayne.
"Nice to see you, dude."
Malone is glaring at me, seething but I totally snob him.
I gaze at Lex.
"Where's Brix?"
My dog is the one thing I want to see right now.
It's been one hell of a day and the night, well, full of drama. I need to lay down beside Brix and breathe.
"Brix got hit by a car as I walked him today."
I gasp. "What!"
Lex chuckles. "Just kidding. He's sleeping in your room."
"Not funny."
I spin to head to my room when Malone grips my wrist.
"We are not done talking here!"
"Yes, we are." I snatch my hand from his grip.
"Goodnight," I mumble to everyone as I strut to my room.
I shut my bedroom door.
My heart warms when I see Brix sleeping soundly on the couch, snoring.
I glide silently to the couch and sit beside him, brushing my hands gently over his fur. He turns his body to the opposite side, letting out a gruff gentle snore.
Someone opens the door and pokes her head.
"A minute please."
"I need some time alone, please."
I think I just said that in Portuguese because Lex enters my room and sits on my bed.
"You know I'm always here for you when you need ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, right?"
I nod.
"And you know you can tell me ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, right?"
I nod, and giggle at the weird face she's making when she stresses, "Absolutely Anything."
She continues. "I know the break up with Axel isn't easy for you but you're going to get through this. You don't have to use your asshole ex as a rebound for revenge."
"What!" I gasp. "You think I'm using Blade as a rebound. God! You didn't believe what I-"
"No one believed you."
I roll my eyes. "Get out of my room, Lex!"
"You're going to hate me but your brother is right. Going back to Blade after all he has done to you would be so dumb of you!"
Tears sting my eyes.
"Can you all please stop talking about Blade! This is not about Blade! I just lost my job!"
Lex gasps. "What!"
"I got fired!"
She looks at me remoursefully and glides towards me to comfort me when we hear the wailing of a police car.
Just a few seconds later, the doorbell rings.
We head over to the living room to check who the late visitor is. I wasn't expecting anyone and from the look on Lex's face, she too, wasn't expecting someone.
Wendy pulls the door open.
My heart leaps.
Two cops.
God! Am I in trouble?
