Ch. 14 : Awkward Introduction

2915 Words
The next day I woke up much later and lazily went about my apartment enjoying this rare quiet, solitary peace. I rolled out of bed and smiled when I noticed that I had woken up an hour before noon. I munched on some chips and calmly cleaned up my home, jumping into the shower for a quick rinse before I filled my tub for a long soak. Sighing in contentment I lay back in the hot water and stared at the floating dry blossoms that grazed my skin. Some scented oils were mixed in along with a bath bomb that added a deep purple color to the clear water. Once I was out I pat dried my body and wrapped my hair up in another, walking across my apartment in all my nakedness. I opened drawers, scanned my closet and looked through my various accessories and shoes, pulling things out before putting them away again. I was planning to go out tonight and find a man, whether Demon or Human, that would be able to satisfy my Succubus Hunger. I hadn’t gone out to replenish and refuel my body in a few weeks and I was starting to feel sickly and achy. My Demonic Core was beginning to rise, shoving thoughts and ideas into my head while my body heated up considerably. It was dangerous to allow myself to get this out of balance, but I could normally go a bit longer without needing to ‘feed’. A part of me was certain that the Black Salt my loving Aunt and Cousin used on me was behind my rapid drain and I found myself glaring at nothing while I continued to look for an outfit. Finally, after my hair felt mostly dry and was softly combed through, I found a dress that Nyla had given me a long time ago that I still hadn’t worn. It was a smokey green halter dress with deep black trimmings all along the edges. The neckline was teasingly low and showed off one of my greatest assets while the satin-like fabric hugged my body snuggly, showing off my curves. It stopped about half an inch above my knees and had a clean slit over my right thigh that exposed more skin halfway up my thigh. I added a cute black lace garter on this leg to peek through the opening and smiled to myself in the mirror, knowing that my prey would come to me effortlessly. I paired my whole outfit with some lace up heels that wrapped around my calves, a black silk choker with a shiny onyx stone that hung below my collar bone and let my sandy brown curls fall wildly down my back. Happy with my look, I grabbed my storm gray and black clutch, shoving my keys and phone inside before leaving my apartment. I drove around the city for a long while, looking for a place that would have plenty of prey to choose from so I could have some fun and still feed myself without trouble. There were a few bars that I passed that looked full of people but I drove past them, not wanting to deal with too many Humans. Especially those that were already far too drunk to be anything more than a problem. And I could see through the window that there were a few large groups that were pretty far gone as they entered said bars. So, to avoid that messy crowd, I aimed towards the opposite edge of the city, away from most Demon owned buildings. Here, another cluster of bars and a few clubs were tucked away and I chose to park here and walk the rest of the way. I could feel the eyes of those waiting in line at the first club I parked at following my every motion. Their burning, lust filled gazes letting me know that I wasn’t going to have any problem replenishing my Demonic inner self. But I was cautious as I walked into a bar that was a short walk away from where I parked. I always made sure that the men I aim for don’t have any emotional attachments of any kind. I pulled the veil that shielded my eyes from the view of colorful threads that spilled out from each person, looking through them carefully to make sure there was nothing romantic attached to them. And even if the men speaking to me held no crimson thread to their hearts, I still took my time talking to them, probing to see if they were hiding a spouse or girlfriend that they felt nothing for. It’s a sad and bitter fact that those types of people truly do exist, both men and women that stay with someone they no longer care for because of some petty selfish reason or another. And I vehemently refuse to become a part of the pain that that innocent partner feels once their relationship comes crashing down. “Whiskey?” A tall blond man asked suddenly, breaking me out of my people watching as I sat at the bar. “Isn’t that a bit too bitter for a beautiful lady like you?” I stared at him for a second and raised my brow, wondering if he was really going to open up a conversation with me with that stupid line. But as I sighed and opened my mouth to respond, I caught sight of a trio of other men behind him. They sat at the far end of the bar and a little cluster with beers in their hands and were failing to be discreet as they watched their obvious friend try to hit on me. “I like the burn.” I answered smoothly, turning away from him and smiling at the friendly bartender that had served me. “You know, people say that women that drink hard liquor like you enjoy it when things get hot and rough.” He muttered to me, leaning in close enough that I could smell a faint trace of cigarette smoke. “And I’m willing to bet a little Succubus like you is as hot and rough as that drink.” The bartender choked a bit, having heard the man's shitty line and I struggled to keep a straight face. I smiled when we locked eyes and his composure broke completely, making me giggle when he chuckled loudly. “I think you need to save yourself the embarrassment and go back to your friends.” I told the guy who was now glaring at the bartender. “Tell them the next rounds on me, cause there’s no way in hell that I’m hooking up with you.” The bartender and I continued to chuckle as the blond’s seat scraped against the floor. But instead of doing as I said, the damn ass stayed behind me and grabbed my arm, jerking me around in the swing stool so I was facing him. “Isn’t that what you sluts live for?” He asked, eyeing my body up with a mixture of desire and hatred in his glassy eyes. “I’m doing you a favor and you think you can reject me? Just like that?” His grip on my arm tightened and I winced a bit, struggling to contain my emotions and my hunger in check. “Hey!” Mr. Friendly-Bartender snapped out, glaring at the blond as he came closer to us. “Why don’t you wet your wick somewhere else, fuckface.” I chuckled a bit at his words, pissing off the drunkard even more. “Mind your business asshole!” The blond man growled out. I simply smiled innocently as the two massive bouncers came up behind him while his friends turned away, clearly trying to save themselves from getting kicked out. Sadly for them, I was in a bitter mood now and quickly pointed them out as being a part of the drunk blondes group. And a few minutes later they were all escorted out of the bar and the kind looking bartender poured me another drink on the house. We talked a bit more and I checked to make sure that he held zero attachments to him. He was also very forthcoming about his relationship status too since he was a Demon himself and knew that my kind were capable of. “I’m surprised to see a Griffin out here on his own.” I softly commented, staring at him over the rim of my glass. “Especially one that’s hiding what he is.” He smirked at me before turning away and tending to other customers, giving me a moment to look him over better. Griffins were one of the few extremely rare races of Demons that Humans were surprised to learn were real. And when these Demons changed into their animal forms that surprise would typically turn into fear since Griffins, like other ShapeShifters, were far more massive than the average animals Humans were used to. The fact that Griffins were also sometimes born with mental gifts only added to their reasons to fear them, and in the very beginning of Demon and Human interactions, Griffins were one of the most prized prey of Human Hunters. This, along with the dangerously low birthrate of Griffins contributed to them being among those that were dying out here on Earth. And from what I had heard among my Shifter friends, Griffins seldom go anywhere alone because small clusters of Human Hunters are still out there, killing us one by one. And just like all those centuries ago, Griffins were one of the most prized kills that a Human Hunter could make. “So,” The dark haired man started, smiling as he returned to my side of the bar. “Since we’re digging into each other, am I correct in assuming that you’re out looking to feed?” I stared back at him, wondering what his situation was and why he was alone, yet also seeing where his mind was going clearly in his pale blue contact covered eyes. I leaned in closer and smiled, using my free arm to push up my girls over the bartop as I spoke. “If I say yes, will you tell me what I want to know?” “Depends on why you want to know it.” He answered, leaning in as well while his eyes bounced down to my chest before meeting my eyes. “I only wish to help.” I told him innocently, leaning back and taking a sip of my drink. “I’m a Lieutenant for the Matron here, and I didn’t even know we had such a rare guest in the city.” He chuckled, “Just because you hold rank doesn’t make you easier to trust.” “True.” I reached out and stopped him as he made a move to make me another drink. “But as they say, actions speak louder than words.” He smiled and nodded slowly, relaxing under my touch. A second later he pointed out a coworker that was walking in and went to inform them and the other one that he was going on his break. I discreetly followed him towards the back where the break rooms were and raised a brow when he led me to a much smaller room further back with only a couch and tv inside. A condom was pulled out a moment later and my dress was hiked up before things got heavy on that very couch. We left the lights off and I fed on the rush and rise of pure pleasure that coursed through me. He was much gentler than I expected a Shifter to be and I wondered if he was taking my race into consideration. Because even though I may be a Demon like him and can heal myself to a certain extent, I was still one of the weaker races among all Demons. Especially compared to a Griffin, the pinnacle of all combat races within Demons. He left first after everything was said and done and left me with a piece of paper with his name and number on it. I knew that this wasn’t anything more than a one night stand and silently thanked the guy for stepping in to help feed me like he did. Of course, it’s not like he didn’t enjoy himself too from the way he looked and sounded. After flicking on the lights and finding a mirror, I fixed myself up and walked out, sneaking past some other employees and making it out to the main floor. I waved a little at the man now back behind the bar and laughed when he winked at me as I left. I was feeling much better now and wanted to ride my little high a bit more, so I turned back and made my way towards another bar I had passed before. This one wasn’t a pool bar like the one I had left. It was a neat little arcade bar and restaurant type place, with the arcade part taking up a huge portion of the building. Smiling to myself, I went straight to the circular bar in the middle of the building and ordered another drink, as well as cashing out a few singles so I could play some games. I downed my drink and huffed a bit as it burned my throat more than normal. I looked over and found the pretty little bartender, a Demon girl like me, holding a small bottle of Muria, a Demon liquor that was five times stronger than the average Human Whiskey. I smiled brightly at her in thanks and turned to find my first game to play. But as I scanned the massive space in front of me I locked eyes with a pair of familiar steel gray orbs and a sudden rush spilled over me. There, standing by a game with someone playing, stood Detective Marcus, the last person I thought I would run into. He was in a deep blue button up with the sleeves rolled up and nicely fitted jeans. There was a drink in one hand and a slight flush across his cheeks from a mixture of alcohol and laughter. He looked dangerously handsome with his nordic tattoos poking out from his sleeves, and a fluttering eager energy filled my chest and stomach, painting my cheeks pink too. Then, when the person he stood next to stepped back, cheering after winning, I spotted Detective Daniel who wore a sleeveless t-shirt. But my shock only climbed even higher when a third person popped into view from the cover of the machine, jumping up to hug Daniel and plant a kiss on his lips and cheek. “Nyla?!” I hadn’t spoken loudly at all, and in a place like this one would need to shout to call out to someone. But Marcus muttered something, his lips moving faintly, and the two love-birds pulled apart and looked at him. They took note of his stare and followed his gaze, making them both take on stunned expressions before my dear little Fay rushed around them to get to me. “Devin!” She shouted, crashing into me as the men followed behind her. “What are you doing here?” I looked at her and frowned a bit, seeing her secondary ring of amber being covered up by the blue contacts she wore. “Needed to feed.” I told her softly, eyeing my coworkers. “You?” “Oh! My boyfriend had some time off and I’ve been getting to know his friends a bit.” She turned and waved Daniel towards her, seeming oblivious to the look of confusion on his face. “Danny, this is my best friend Devin.” She then turned to me, still smiling. “Dev, this is Danny.” I nodded, enjoying his shock a little. “Nice to see you again Detective.” I then turned to Marcus who was a bit closer to me than the others. “Didn’t think I’d run into any of you during our days off.” “What?” Nyla froze a bit, looking between all of us as her little happy bubble started to deflate. I sighed, “I worked with them.” I explained, smiling to try and keep her joyful energy up. “In that first case I was telling you about.” Daniel flinched a bit and Marcus just nodded in response. “Really?” Nyla beamed at us, seeming content again. “Well that makes things easier right?” She looked at me with a hidden little meaning in her eyes and I just nodded at her, chuckling a bit. “Join us!” She grabbed my arm and tugged me with her, pointing out a few machines that they had planned to try next. I didn’t want to be so close to the man I was both attracted to and trying to avoid. But I couldn’t think of anything to say to excuse myself from their little group. I had a cup of coins in my hand clearly meant to play some games and seeing how energetic and happy Nyla was, nothing was going to convince her to let me leave. Great. I thought to myself, side stepping away from Detective Marcus who came too close to me once again. Just my luck.
