I shouldn’t have pushed. That was the first thing that stuck with me. Not what she said. Not how she said it. Just— that I pushed. I sat on the edge of my bed, my phone in my hand, staring at the screen without really seeing it. The house was quiet, but it didn’t feel the same as it had the night before. Something about it sat wrong. Not the house. Her. She shut down fast. Too fast. Faster than someone who was just annoyed. That wasn’t irritation. That was something else. Something learned. Something practiced. I leaned back slightly, one hand dragging over my face as I exhaled slowly. I replayed it again. Every part. The way her voice changed. The way she stepped back. The way she looked like she needed space more than anything else. I wasn’t trying to make it worse
