Sometimes, Sammy appeared as Poppie, sometimes as himself and sometimes as both of them at the same time. In the long day since Sammy first appeared, Tom had been enchanted, entertained and educated by the VF.
Sammy said: “Tom, listen! If I’m to take you home ….” he waved his hand and bars appeared around the walls of Tom’s room, making it a cage “ ... I need to be able to get out of here!”
And Tom, eyes wide, had looked around at the bars. Some were orange, some blue, some pink but most of them were black and formidable. Sammy turned into a bird and flew across to where the generator sat in the middle of a pool of fluctuating dark colours. Sammy’s voice said “I have to stay near to this gizmo!” The bird turned into a small pig, which shat out a gigantic pile of multi-coloure
