Chapter Thirteen

Scarlett's POV

All I wanted was for the pain to stop. I felt like flames were engulfing my body from the inside out. I could no longer tell if the water was even running anymore. I tried to speak to my mom but, my voice was gone, I so badly wanted to ask her to take the pain away, but no matter how hard I tried, the words just wouldn't come out. I hadn't realized that I had been clothed and placed into a tub full of ice. I looked around the room and saw Dimitri's parents and both mine standing there looking at me with such concern in their eyes. I wanted to scream at them but again nothing happened. I watched and I heard as they spoke.

" Declan, why is this happening to her? I have to try to help her. If she keeps going like this, Lycan or not, she will die." cried my mother, my father wrapping her up in a hug.

" I don't know why this is happening. I have never seen anything like this. I truly doubt even the Elders know what is going on. I don't know if magic will help but your right something needs to be done ( Dad I need your help I can't control Dane, he is saying crazy stuff like Scarlett has started her heat) ( Son I need you to fight hard. Dane isn't lying. Right now, Scarlett is dying. I need you to come to her room. Having you near may save her life.) Dimitri is on his way up. He just linked me. It might not be a bad idea to call the pack doctor." said Declan, rubbing the back of his neck. My father pulled out his phone, tapped the screen and walked out of the room. I couldn't hear what was being said. I could feel the magic flowing through my body, it was doing nothing to dull the pain or stop the burning. I was fighting to keep my eyes open when I felt the tug of the mate bond. I knew he was here, Delcan quickly moved to block him.

" Son, I need you calm right now. Your mate isn't in the right state of mind to make a decision." Declan stepped away and Dimitri was next to me in a flash. He sat on the floor next to the bathtub and touched the top of my head. Just that simple touch was enough to make the pain bearable. He kept stroking my hair, pulling the wet strands from my face and it felt so wonderful. I closed my eyes and leaned into his touch.

" I think this is helping. She seems way more relaxed but she is still burning up. Why is this happening now? I told her we had time before this would happen. Is the doctor coming?" asked Dimitri. My dad looked and his phone then answered.

" He just walked in, we will give you some privacy. Dimitri, please keep us updated."

Dimitri nodded and everyone left the room. I could hear muffled talking from the other room and then Derek walked in.

" How is our patient doing?" asked Derek, pulling out a thermometer and his stethoscope.

" Me being here is helping, but her body is telling her this isn't enough. She has relaxed but her temperature is still way too high. I was told this was a bath of just ice cubes."

" Dimitri, I will be honest. We need to take her to the hospital. We only have three options. We have a cold room for females who go through their heat without mates and I think this would help along with you by her side and a morphine drip. I put her in a medically induced coma. Or you follow though by claiming her. We will start with the first option and then work our way down the list. We need to move her now, preferably in dry clothes." Said Derek. When Dimitri pulled away, my whole world went dark.

Dimirti's POV

I pulled away for only a second to call for Everly to magic her some new dry clothes, nothing too heavy. " We need to move her now we can't wait. She isn't conscious right now. Luna, I need you to portal us into the hospital right now." Yelled Derek.

I picked up Scarlett and she was already bone dry. Everly wasted no time doing what needed done, Derek was running and I was right on his heels. Inside the hospital he was barking orders and it was complete chaos. He never stopped until he was standing in front of a door. He pulled it open, waving me inside. We were standing in a small hall. He opened another door and we walked through, air was cold but not bad.

" Before we take her in, I need to start her IV's. One is fluids to hydrate her and the other is morphine. We are going to really push fluids. I believe that will help get her back to talking. You might have her mother try magic again. If this doesn't work in the next hour or so, I can say the coma is probably not going to either."

I laid her down on the bed and held her hand.I knew he was probably right, I just needed her to wake up enough to say what she needed. I prayed that the fluids and her mother's magic would get us somewhere. Derek worked quickly and before I knew it, she had two separate IV's. Let's get her into her room."

He pushed a button and two doors opened and the room was huge. There was a big bed in the middle of the room and he parked the hospital bed right next to it.

" So this room is a bit different but it has everything needed. The bed has dual temperature readers. We will continue to monitor that, with this being a top priority. I will have a nurse here every half hour or so. Inside that little room it is warm and there is a red button that will call the nurse and I won't be leaving until we know she is out of the woods. I'll have you place her in the bed and I will have a nurse in here to make sure her fluid drip is still good." Said Derek, he wrote a few things down and then he left. I sent a quick text to Everly ( Derek said now that we have her on pain meds and fluids. He thinks you should try the magic again. He also gave us options. When you get here, we will make a plan.) She didn't take long to respond (On my way). I needed to know why this was happening to my mate. My mother made a few phone calls to her assistants for them to research anything and everything they could find in the old part of the library at the palace. I hoped they would find answers because I couldn't stand seeing my mate laying in a hospital bed yet again. ( Dane, I need you to keep trying to reach Alex. I know that she has a connection to the moon goddess. I'm hoping that just maybe, with us being her mate, that we will have a connection as well.) ( I have been trying all evening to reach her and nothing. I will try the goddess.)

I hoped Dane would find some answers. I let go of Scarlett's hand to grab a blanket out of the warm room. I had been so afraid to stop touching her, afraid that if I did she would be in pain. I wrapped up in the blanket and laid down next to her, making sure to lay my hand on her body so that we were always touching. The events of the day had just been to much and I was ready to at least a little sleep.

Dane's POV

I knew Dimitrti was worried about keeping me at bay when we learned what was happening to our mate. At first, I wasn't going to back down and let him have control. But when they said she was dying, I knew it was the right thing to do. It pained me to see Scarlett laying there like that. At first I thought she was already gone, and it just made me think of Alex. I had been trying to reach out for so long that I was starting to really worry. Dimitri's idea about trying to reach the goddess was a long shot, but I was willing to try anything that could possibly help. I was no longer inside my humans mind, I stood on all fours and shook out my fur. It felt good to be back here, now I just hoped the goddess would let me find her. I went to a few of the spots that Alex had taken me to and nothing. I stopped and really focused on the pull of the bond and followed it. I came to a stop at a strange archway and behind it was a pond, Alex was laying next to it and there was the goddess. I approached slowly and said " Moon Goddess I'm sorry for the rush but we really need your help. Scarlett is dying."

" Rest yourself, this wasn't supposed to happen this way. I had hoped that you would find the book in the original castle, but I'm afraid that there is no time for that now. Your mate is truly very special. She is actually my daughter. No, I didn't birth her but, but she is here because I so chose for it to be. I gifted her parents a child because they showed kindness to a complete stranger, no questions asked, they fed her, gave her cloths and most impotant they gave her a roof over her head. I was that stranger and they showed me kindness that no one else would dare to. Your mate is truly special. As it stands, she is the true Queen of all Lycan, wolves and such alike. She has blood from all four original families. No, you are not related, I promise. "

" So our mate is also a vampire and a fae too?" I asked.

" In a way, yes. Her true form was to be decided when she was to find her mate. When you saw her picture that day in the palace you set things in motion. The next day, she first heard her wolf talk. Now say if her mate had been a full fae, then that's what her true form would have been. You get the idea, it was just me who decided who her chosen would be I had help. We knew she would need someone who could help guide her in the ways of a royal. I can't tell you who helped me but I have been given this information to pass along to you. Scarlett's heat has come because you both need a heir to claim the throne. There is another who can claim the throne. He is my son. He and Scarlett would have been twins had I not given her to her parents now. The law says the heir has to be from the love of true mates. I know this is a lot and both of you have had so much thrown at you in a short time, but the vision has been seen that you have a child together." Explained the Goddess.

" Nothing can happen right now with Scarlett. She isn't even conscious right now, she is laying in a hospital bed right now with a morphine drip as well as a fluid drip. She is truly dying right now."

"Oh dear, this is worse than I thought. Give me just one moment." she disappeared right before my eyes. I wasn't sure what she was doing or where she was going but I looked over at Alex and noticed she was starting to stir. I didn't even realize the Goddess was back until she spoke. " Everything is set right. It wasn't intended to happen that way. I will convey my deepest apologies to both Alex and Scarlett. I will explain everything to Alex you need to return to your human and explain everything to him just as I did you. One last thing before you leave, your uncle is working for my son. You do have a person on the inside who was once lost but is looking for redemption. Tell Everly M forgives her." she said, snapping her fingers, sending me back to Dimitri.
