The Lycan King's Hybrid Mate

My life as a eighteen -year old Witch, is pretty much what you’d expect. I go to a local high school and learn normal human things. Then I come home and practice magic with my Mom and we also do combat training. Her name is Everly Mason and she is the coven leader of the Willowbend City. It’s just me and my Mom on account that I don’t know much about my Dad. Mom won’t talk about him and when I ask, she just gets really sad and I don’t like seeing her that way. Oh wait, I should probably tell you a bit about myself, since this is my story and all. As you know, I’m seventeen, almost eighteen. My name is Scarlett Mason, I have red hair and green eyes, they are a little lack luster to me. I'm tall and curvy, I have a simple style, and I love to take pictures. I have a best friend. Her name is Willow Spencer. She lives with us due to the fact her parents are Werewolves. Her Mom has both the Witch and Wolf gene but she didn’t inherit the witch part like Willow did. Eva ( Willows Mom) and my Mom used to be best friends a long time ago. Willow is the epitome of girly. She could go off and be a model one day. Being a Witch isn’t so bad except, as I said, our school is full of humans. Not saying humans are bad at all, they just don’t understand we’re different. We do have friends that are human, but again we have to be careful. Don’t get me wrong, Willow and I do get to do girl things like have sleep over’s and date if we choose to. But we never bring them home. My house is usually a busy place unless Mom says the word. I know if I asked to have friends over she would let me, but I don’t. I kinda like my private life the way it is. I know that it bothers Willow. We just spent the weekend at the lake with our friend Katie. My mom has no clue. I know lying is wrong but the truth is if I asked, to go she would tell me no. That’s why so many wolves don’t like Witches and recently, so witches have gone missing and then turned up dead! It looks like wolves are responsible. So my Mom has gone on complete lock down in the sense of it. It was just getting to be too much to handle and she’s also been hovering a lot too. My Mom and I have a pretty great relationship, but this has put a strain on it. So I told her Willow and I were staying the weekend with Katie and we ended up at her parents' lake house and it was a pretty good party. I joined in on a few activities, but other than that, I kept to myself and relaxed. Katie and Willow are a lot closer than Katie and I, we talk just not like they do. When we were on our way home, I chose the back seat so they could talk about the boys they met this weekend. I slipped on my ear buds and looked out the window. Tweet Tweet Mom: Hey, hon was I just wondering when you were going to be home? Me: I should be home in another hour or so. I need to stop at the store before I come home. I forgot my list. Could you send me a picture of it? Mom: No need. I took some time to myself as well this weekend and did all the shopping to give you a break. Me: Oh OK thank you. I will see you soon. We got to Katie’s house and she wanted us to come in to hang out. “ You guys want to come in for a while?” asked Katie. “I'm sorry I can’t. I still have to finish up my article for the game on Friday. I never worked on it this weekend.” I said. “ I can’t either. I need to ask Everly if she is OK if I go to Kelly’s house to finish our project. It’s due tomorrow.” Said Willow. “Oh right, I forgot about that. I need to finish my part of it. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” Said Katie Willow and I got into my car and headed for home. I knew something was going on with Mom. I hoped another Witch hadn’t been found murdered again. I didn’t know much about the wolf world, just new enough to stay away and to also hide my scent. I pulled into the driveway and got out and made my way to the house. “ Mom I’m home!” I yelled. “ There is no need to yell. I’m in the kitchen.” Said my Mom. “ Did you girls have a fun weekend?” Asked Mom “ We did thank you for letting us stay with Katie. Would you be ok with me going to Kelly’s house to finish up the last few things of our project it’s due tomorrow?” Asked Willow. “ Sure that would be alright. Please call if you decide to stay the night or if you're going be home late.” Said Mom “ Thank you” Said Willow as she left the room “ So Mom what’s up, is something going on?” I asked. “ Nothing is wrong. This will sound strange, but has anything strange gone on in your life that isn’t magic related?” Asked Mom “ No. Everything is pretty normal. And if something was to change, you would be the first person I would tell.” I said “OK good, I knew you would. Call it a Mom thing for wanting to ask. How was your weekend?” Asked Mom “ It was good. How was yours?” I asked. “ It was very nice and quiet. I need to take a weekend off more often. I was able to catch up on my shows. Thank you for asking.” Said Mom “ You’re welcome. That sounds really nice, what do we want for dinner?” I asked. “ Oh hon you don’t have to cook. I’ll only be another hour and I can do it.” Said Mom. “ It’s OK, I don’t mind.” I said. She was about to add something else, when her phone started to ring. She mouthed “ I’m Sorry”, so I walked out of her office and was about to shut the door, when i heard the change in her voice. The person she was talking to was clearly upsetting her. “ Noah, what would you like me to do? I asked her if anything strange was happening.” I kept listening. It was hard since it was a one-sided conversation, but I knew she was talking about me. “Yes, I’m well aware her eighteenth birthday is coming up……Noah, please stop, why are you worried about it? You told me to leave. Remember, when she showed no signs of a wolf, we knew she wasn’t safe and I wasn’t either……I get why, but that’s a long time to lie to someone. If you love me, please reject me and move on. The trouble with witches and wolves will never stop and this is just too hard and it breaks mine and my wolf’s heart with the distance…..Why not, we can’t be together. I’m still half Witch. What the hell did my Mom just day. How in the hell is she half and half! That’s why she asked me if anything was different with me. She thinks I could be half and half to. That would mean my Dad is a shifter and that was who she was on the phone with. Why was she keeping this all from me, and why didn’t my Dad want us? I know it was wrong of me to eavesdrop on her conversation, but I really wanted an answer. I took a deep breath and opened the door. “ Scarlett not now please.” Said Mom “ Please don’t not now me Mom. I heard you on the phone, and you know I’m so angry and hurt right now that I could scream. I want answers and I want them now, or I will go and live with Grandma and Grandpa.” I said. “ Why were you listening in that is very rude and I raised you better than that! And it’s not what you think…. “ STOP Mom. I heard you and I want the truth. You want to know how I feel right now Mom. I find out I have a Dad and guess what he’s not here because from what I hear, he told you to leave. So naturally, I feel like he doesn’t want me. So is it because I’m a Witch and he’s ashamed of me or I’m just not good enough? Then, on top of that I may be a shifter too.” I cried. “ Oh hon. I'm so truly sorry, and I know that doesn’t make up for everything. I never wanted to lie to you, but things got complicated and one day, when you have a family of your own, you will understand. Your father and I did what we thought would keep you safe. When you were born, things were going really well. Witches and wolves got along and we even worked together. Some like your Dad and I turned out to be mates. Then, a few years later, the King was killed by a dark witch, so all the wolves turned on anyone that had magic. At the time, you weren’t showing signs of having a wolf, so we got scared. Then one day your magic made its appearance. It was then that your father and I made the decision. I left with you and moved in with your grandparents and then I took over when they retired. I would open a portal for your Dad to come see you when you were little because we knew you wouldn’t remember and no one would ever know.” Said Mom “ So Dad let us go without a fight. Still sounds like he didn’t want us.” I said, still not convinced. “ He wanted us very much. He even wanted to give up being Alpha if it meant that we could live our lives together. I was still the Luna and I couldn’t let him abandon our pack. At the end of the day, we did what we thought was right.” Said Mom “ Does he even ask about me? Other than today?” I asked. “ He calls twice a week. And I also sneak him in for special occasions. Let me try something OK.” Said Mom I nodded and watched as she picked up the phone. She put it on speaker so I could hear to. “ Everly love is everything OK?” Asked Noah “ No, everything isn’t OK. I need you to come to the house. It's time no more lying and no more hiding out and definitely no more damn secrets.” Said Mom “OK, you're right. I’ve been thinking the same as well. Give me an hour and I’ll be ready. I need to leave Jason in charge. I love you.” Said Noah. “OK, I love you too.” Said Mom Mom and I walked out of her office to the kitchen to get prepped to make dinner. I pulled everything out to make tacos. I was browning up the meat when Willow called and asked to spend the night. Mom only agreed because of everything that was going on here at home, and I wasn’t ready to talk about my Dad, at least until I got to know him. “ So did you finish your project for school?” Asked Mom “ We finished it on Friday. I did most of the work. My partner was too busy with football and his girlfriend. Remember when I went to his house on Tuesday evening? Well, yeah, his girlfriend is not really shy about what she wants to do. So I saved myself, the trouble and my eyes and left.” I said. “ Oh my, that sounds rather horrifying. I don’t think it’s right that you do all the work and he gets credit for it.” Said Mom. “Oh, he won’t be getting credit for anything I did. It just so happens the teacher is his Mom and she figured out his game. She saw everything and told me not to worry.” I said. “ So how’s everything else going at school? Also, I saw Kelly’s parents and the store and she informed me that you girls spent the weekend at the lake.” Said Mom “ Why didn’t you say anything? School is school and I can’t wait until I graduate,” I said. “Honestly, after everything, I’ll let the lake thing slide. I know you can protect yourself.” Said Mom Once dinner was done, I went up to my room to change out of my lake clothes. After Mom explained things, I wasn’t as mad anymore. I understood why they did what they did. Did it take the pain away? No, but in time it would go away. I looked at the clock on my nightstand and it was 6:20. My Dad was going to be here in ten minutes. To say I was nervous was an understatement. So many thoughts were going through my mind at once. What would he look like? Would he like me. Would we have anything in common? I decided to send in my article real quickly so I didn’t have to do it in the morning. I was also sent in my Project via email as well. With all the excitement, I was’t sure I was going to school tomorrow. Plus, if I stayed, it would give me time to edit some senior pictures I had taken of a few girls and one boy. I hooked my camera up to get the pictures uploaded from last weekend. Up until recently, I was working at my grandparents' diner and saved up and bought myself a Nikon D850 DSLR. It came with the camera and the kit. It was perfect for everything I love to do. It was my baby along with my car, a 1970 Dodge Challenger. My Mom and I happened to find it in a junk yard. It was in pretty good shape considering. We ended up buying it and I taught myself how to work on it. Last year, for my birthday, my mom surprised me by having the interior done along with a new paint job. It was red with black racing strips with a black interior. “ Scarlett hon its time.” Yelled Mom “OK.” I said. I quickly changed into some sweats and a long sleeve shirt and some socks. This was it I was going to meet my dad for the first time. I made it to the bottom of the stairs and I could hear a man's voice. As I got closer, I could hear what he was saying. “ Ev I don’t want her to hate me. I’ve waited so long to be able to hug her and to tell her I love her. To tell her how proud I am of the person she is becoming and how talented she is at taking the pictures she does. You know I bought two of them.” Said Noah “ Won’t hate you. We both made choices that we thought were the best at that time. One day, when she has children of her own, she will understand that, as a parent, you will do what you can no matter what, to protect your family.” Said Mom Hearing them talk just broke my heart. I realized that I wasn’t the only one hurt in this situation. Both my parents were hurt as well. From what little I know, the mate bond is strong and I know my Mom was always sad. She was good at putting on a happy face, but I could see it. I took another deep breath and walked around the corner and there he stood in my kitchen, in my house. In that moment, all I wanted to do was hug him. I ran to him and wrapped my arms around his neck and just cried. “ Oh, Scarlett, I’m so sorry. Here, let me look at you.” Said Dad I stepped back and wiped my tears with my hands. I looked at him and noticed he had green eyes too, but they were more vivid than mine. That was the only thing we had in common. I didn’t really look like either of my parents. We had some similarities but not many. I wasn’t sure where my red hair came from, it wasn’t from my parents or my Mom's parents. “ You are so beautiful baby girl. I can’t wait to catch up. I want to know everything.” Said Dad “OK, I can’t wait either.” I said, hugging him again. Getting a hug from my Dad felt like it could fix any problem I may have had. We sat and talked over dinner and we talked about everything. “ Your Mom and I actually grew up together. Eva, James, me and your Mom were all from the same pack in Oregon. Even our parents were friends, then your Mom ended up moving to go to school along with Eva. They both had Witch ancestors so they had to be trained to learn to control their magic. Eva came back at seventeen because she didn’t have any power, but she did have a wolf. A year later,, your Mom came back and by this time, we had both gone through our first shift, so that meant we could potentially find our Mates. I was working at a local car garage and your Mom came in one day and it hit me. We informed our parents and our wedding/mating ceremony happened and then 4 years later we had you. After your Mom left I went through a really bad depression stage. I almost lost my wolf I was stubborn and refused to reject your Mom. I still work in the garage from time to time. I actually own it now.” Said Dad “ You like to work on cars?” I asked. “ I love you when I have time. I have myself and a project car that I work on from time to time. You would think, with the amount of money I spent on it that it would have been in better shape.” Said Dad. “ What kind of car? Maybe I could help you work on it. Come with me, I’ll show you my car.” I said. We left Mom in the kitchen to clean up the dishes, I grabbed my keys and we walked out the front door. “ Wow, that is a beautiful car. I have a 1970 Hemi Cuda. It took me a long time to find one.” Said Dad “ That’s the car you have! I would love to have that car but there is no way that would ever happen. Thank you, it was in need of a lot of work and I just started with basics and then worked my way up to worse stuff and slowly got it running. Last year, Mom got the interior and exterior done for me as a gift.” I said. “ Wow, it is amazing that you did all the work yourself. You definitely take after me. As for your earlier question about helping me work on my car, until the soon-to-be King changes his mind about Witches, I’m afraid we can only meet in secret.” Said Dad “It isn’t fair. Why can’t they just understand that I’m your daughter and Mom is your mate? Don’t they care they are ruining peoples lives?” I cried. “ I know it’s not fair. In a month, I have a meeting with the young Prince, he is planning a trip to all the packs to see if he can find his mate. I'm hoping we can have a moment to talk. We can keep hoping that everything will change.” Said Dad “ Mom told me about him watching his Father die at the hands of a Witch. My heart hurts for him, but not all of us are bad. If only he could meet the good ones, and be taught to know the difference between good and bad.” I said. Dad didn’t say much I knew. Talking about all this made him sad too. Not only was he without his daughter, but his mate as well. Im sure this was taking its toll on both of them. If only there was a way to get the prince to change his mind. We all stayed up well into the early morning hours and talked. He told me about his pack and what it was like where he lived in Oregon. He even told me they have a place in Alaska as well. They mostly spend Christmas there. He even explained how the packs made their money. It was complicated. Being an Alpha was hard work, it made sense as to why they had a Luna. I looked at the time. It was well after two am. I excused myself and made my way to bed. I slipped into bed and was out before my head even hit my pillow. Scarlett’s Dream I was walking along the beach looking for sea shells. There was a light breeze today. It washed over me and I instantly relaxed. I looked down and spotted a silver dollar. I picked it up and inspected it and to my surprise it wasn’t broken. I slipped it into my jacket pocket and kept walking until my feet got cold. I found a dry spot on the sand and sat down. I covered my cold feet with the warm sand and watched the waves farther out. As I sat there, I realized I had no worries in the world at this moment. “ A beautiful day today, isn’t it?” Said Someone I jumped and looked around and couldn’t find anyone. “ I said it's a beautiful day, isn’t it?” Said someone again. “ Who is there?” I asked. “ You won’t find me out there. My name is Alex and I'm your wolf.” Said Alex “ Wait, how is this possible? I wasn’t supposed to have a wolf.” I said. “ Who said that, just because you're a Witch does’t mean you can’t have a wolf too. We have been truly blessed by the moon goddess herself and we will do great things. But first you must change the views of Witches in the wolf world,” Said Alex. “ How am I supposed to do that?” I asked. “ I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that what you need will happen soon and it will change your whole life. Not only that, you will change other people’s lives. We will shift on our birthday next week. I can’t tell you more than that. I'm sorry, but just know that if we play our cards right we will have a bright future.” Said Alex End of Dream I woke up way earlier than I wanted to after being up all night. I didn’t actually need to be at school today. But when I was up I knew I needed to talk to my Mom about my dream. I got up and did my morning routine and dressed for the day and made my way to the kitchen. I started the coffee pot and pulled out stuff to make breakfast. I went and knocked on Mom’s office door. She wasn’t there, so I went to check her room and when I opened the door, and saw what no child ever wanted to see their parents do ever. I apologized, shut the door and ran back to the kitchen. Oh boy was this going to be an awkward breakfast this morning, I made eggs and toast along with hash browns and bacon. Twenty minutes later, Mom made her appearance and then Dad followed behind. They both made their plates, sat them down and then went back for coffee. “ Good morning, how did you sleep?” Asked Mom “Really good actually, but I did have a dream and I think I should share it with you.” I said. “ Oh what happened hon?” Ask Dad “ I think I met my wolf last night. Her name is Alex. She told me a bunch of stuff about how I was going to be the one to change the wolf community's mind about Witches. She told me what I would need would happen soon.” I said “ Did she say anything else? Like when will you shift and why all the secrets?” Asked Dad “ I don’t know about the secrets, but she said everything would make sense in time. And our first shift will happen on my birthday.” I said “ This is fantastic news. But it also complicates things too. Technically, you both should belong to a pack, since you both have a physical wolf. This is a start. I will try harder to get a meeting with the Prince and see what he has to say.” Said Dad. I couldn’t believe that I actually had a wolf. So many things were going through my mind. What would she look like and would we take after our Alpha father? That also means I had a mate out there, most people would be excited. But deep down I was terrified of finding my mate. I didn’t want to be rejected for being a witch, but I also didn’t want to be killed either. It was strange sitting at the table having breakfast with both my parents. Mom left to get started on work she didn’t get done over the weekend. Dad didn’t have to be back in the pack until this evening unless his beta called and he needed to come back sooner. We left the house and I showed him my school, our favorite spot to hang out, my favorite beach. We stopped for lunch and then went back to the house. I showed him all the pictures that made it to the paper among other things that mom had kept. I showed him what I had been working on for school and other outside projects. After that, we talked, until his phone rang. “ I have to take this.” Said Dad I nodded and kept watching the movie. When he came back, he told me he had to leave because there was an emergency. A wolf child was missing, and he needed to go back to help search for her. I said my goodbyes, he promised he would be back soon and he left through the portal that Mom opened. “ I’m really glad that you and your father were able to start having a relationship. It was really starting to bother him because he couldn’t be apart of your life, but he was also afraid that he would put you in danger too. The last two days have made him so happy.” Said Mom “I'm glad to, I didn’t realize what I was missing not having a Dad around growing up. The last two days have been the best for me to and I can’t wait until he comes back. I didn’t realize we actually had things in common.” I said. I spent the rest of my day editing photos and watching TV. After dinner, Mom and I sat down and watched a movie and then we headed off to bed.
