Headway

Scene 1: In the living room, Sophia and her dad were singing while playing the piano. Sophia and Her Dad: (singing) Na…na…na na na….na…na…na na na…. Jenna(Sophia’s mother): Wow nice singing. Can I join? (Smiling) Jonathan(Sophia’s father): Of course Honey(He said with a big smile). *And the three of them sing together happily. Scene 2: Sophia is playing the piano in the living room. *Sophia’s father is running towards her, holding a paper with him with a big smile on his face. Jonathan: Sophia, Sophia (he exclaimed with excitement) Sophia: (a little bit confused) What is it Dad? Jonathan: Look! I got an invitation for an audition to a large producer(showing the paper he has on his hands) Sophia: Gosh, really! Dad you’re gonna go with me right? Jonathan: Yes of course! I’m not gonna miss my daughter’s performance. Me and your mother will go with you. Sophia: Yey! Thanks Daddy (hugs her dad). Jonathan: (hugged Sophia too with a smile on his face) You’re welcome baby. You better get ready cause the audition will be held on a few days. Sophia: (refrains from hugging) Yes of course! Scene 3: *Only five days remaining before the audition take place, accidentally Sophia heard her mom and dad talking… Jenna: Really you’re going now?! (Speaks on a low voice) But Sophia’s audition is in five days!(still speaks quietly) Jonathan: Yah I know (speaks softly and quietly) Jenna: But why are you gonna leave now? Jonathan: I promise I’ll be back…(before he finishes his sentence Sophia interrupts) Sophia: You’re gonna leave Daddy? Jonathan: (slightly shocked) Sweetie…ahm yeah(looks back to Jenna then faces Sophia again)I just really have to go for a business trip, it’s just urgent, but I promise I’ll be back before the audition so I can play the guitar with you(smiles) Sophia: Promise? Jonathan: Yes I promise did I ever broke a promise to you? Sophia: (Shakes her head and smiled) Scene 4: Jenna is in her room watching her favorite show on the television when suddenly it got interrupted by a breaking news. News Anchor: Air Pacific 101 had crushed this morning and there are no survivors, including Engineer Jonathan Carlson… *Jenna was extremely shocked by the news, not knowing how to tell it to her daughter especially that the audition will be held in three days, suddenly… Sophia: (crying) Mommy, is it true that daddy is no longer coming back? Jenna: (shocked and has teary eyes) Ahm…ah…how did…(interrupted by Sophia) Sophia: I saw the news on social media. Mommy please tell me it wasn’t true (crying still). Tell me that it was just fake news. (Cried heavily) Jenna: (rushed to hug her daughter and cried too) I wish honey, I wish that is was really just like that (hugging her daughter so tight) *The two of them cried together at that moment. When they finally pulled themselves together they went to the morgue to get her father’s body. Scene 5: At the funeral. Sophia: (sitting down with her mother faced down and very sad) Mommy I don’t want to go to the audition anymore. Jenna: (shocked by what her daughter told her) What?! But Honey, it…Ahm…your father will not like it if he is here. Sophia: But he wasn’t anymore. So what’s the use of going there. Jenna: Oh sweetheart, come here(she hugged her child) Sophia: (just cried while leaning on her mother) Jenna: Do you know why he introduced you to that audition? (Still hugging her daughter) Sophia: (shakes her head) No (looks into her mother) Jenna: (touches her daughter’s face) Well the thing is, he knows that you’re so good in singing, and that you love doing it. So he invited you to that audition because he wants you to be great, because he knows and feels that it is your dream. So let’s go to that audition and let them here your sweet voice. Hm. Sophia: (smiled at her mother) ok we will go. Scene 6: The audition *While waiting for her turn, Sophia is shaking and sometimes she’s walking back and forth, then sits down uncomfortably. Jenna: Honey relax (put her hand on her daughter’s back) Sophia: (smiles to her mother) I’m just nervous only if daddy is here(suddenly gets sad) I’ll be more confident. Jenna: (smiled slightly) You’re gonna make it Hm. Sophia: (smiles back to her mother) *While they are trying to comfort each other by telling funny memories with her father the coordinator of the audition called Sophia’s name Coordinator: Sophia Carlson. Is Sophia Carlson here? Sophia: Yah! (She exclaimed) I’m here. Coordinator: Ok it’s your turn. Jenna: Break a leg. Sophia: Alright. Jenna: I’ll be just right here. Scene 7: In front of the judges. Judge 1: Hi what an angelic face! (Smiling seems like she is happy to see Sophia) *Sophia smiled at her. Judge 2: Tell us your name honey (he said while smiling) Sophia: I ‘am Sophia Carlson (she said with a shy smile) Judge 1: What a beautiful name. Well who is with you here? Sophia: Ahm, my mom. Actually it has to be both of my parents but I loss my dad three days before this audition. Judge 1: Oh that is so sad to hear. I’m sorry for your loss. Sophia: Yah, (sobs) it’s really hard (wipes her tears) because he is the one who introduced this audition to me, and promised to play the guitar with me. But my mother told me to still sing and proceed with the audition cause this is what he’ll want for me. *The judges smiled with tears. Judge 3: If so darling, what will you sing for us? Sophia: I’ll be singing “Dance with my Father” Judge 2: Ok (smiles at her) *Sophia started singing and the judges loved her voice. After she sang the judges complimented her with her singing and talked to each other silently before they made a decision. Judge 3: Ok so we made a decision already and it’s a unanimous decision. (Faces the other two judges) So let’s tell her our decision! (He exclaimed) Judges: You’re in!!!! Sophia: (shocked and smiled greatly) Wow! Judge 1: See you in Aurile theater! Congratulations!!! (She exclaimed) Sophia: Thank you! ( She said gladly then run back to her mother) Jenna: How is it? Sophia: Well, I passed. I’m going to Aurile theater! Jenna: See I told you that you can make it. Well that deserves a treat, how about we go to the finest restaurant in town. Sophia: Hmmm… that sounds good. Jenna: Ok then let’s go. ……End of chapter one …
