Hiding in a Stranger’s Bedroom A week passed. Leng Yue managed to rent a small unit in a quiet, upscale residential community on the outskirts of the city. Her savings were steadily running out, and she knew she needed to become financially independent as soon as possible. From early that morning, Leng Yue sent out dozens of job applications to major companies. Her efforts finally paid off. At exactly eleven that night, her phone rang. “Good evening, Ms. Leng Yue. We’re pleased to inform you that you’ve passed the initial resume screening. You are invited to interview for the Executive Assistant position tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. at Sovereign Group.” Sovereign Group—the country’s number-one conglomerate. A triumphant smile spread across Leng Yue’s beautiful face. This was her first step toward reclaiming the life she had lost. The next morning, Leng Yue looked stunning in an elegant formal suit. At Sovereign Group, she found herself competing against hundreds of accomplished candidates, including a woman named Sonia. With her intelligence, composure, and sharp judgment, Leng Yue made it through a series of demanding assessments. In the end, she was offered a position as the Second CEO’s Assistant. But her satisfaction vanished the moment she returned to her neighborhood that afternoon. Two black luxury SUVs were parked outside her rental. Several burly men in black suits stood guard, pounding on the door. They were Fu Yancheng’s men, sent by the furious Fu family elders after Leng Yue had dared to divorce him without their permission. “They found me already?” Leng Yue muttered under her breath, her eyes darting rapidly around the area. Running toward the main road would only make her an easy target. Her only escape route was the magnificent villa directly beside her rental—a sprawling mansion that appeared deserted, its doors and windows tightly secured. Moving swiftly and silently, Leng Yue climbed over the dividing fence and slipped through the backyard. To her surprise, she found a side door to the villa unlocked. Without wasting a second, she slipped inside and hurried upstairs to the second floor, searching for the safest place to hide. She pushed open the door to the dark master bedroom and slipped inside, then quietly locked it from the inside, holding her breath. Click. The heavy footsteps of Fu Yancheng’s men echoed through the residential compound outside. For the moment, Leng Yue was safe. Just as she finally let out a relieved breath, the sound of running water coming from the bathroom suddenly stopped. The glass door slid open. A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped out, wearing nothing but a white towel wrapped around his waist. Water droplets glistened as they traced the hard planes of his muscular chest and perfectly defined abdomen. In an instant, a powerful, dangerous, almost lethal presence filled the entire room. Leng Yue stared at him. His features looked almost too perfect to be real, framed by sharp, hawk-like eyes that were cold and intimidating. There was something strangely familiar about his face, but before Leng Yue could place him, the man swept his wet hair back and fixed her with a threatening stare. His eyes locked onto hers, leaving her nowhere to hide. “If you were bold enough to sneak into my bedroom, then you should already know the consequences,” the man said, his deep voice vibrating through the silence. “Don’t blame anyone if you don’t make it out of my bed tonight.” Instead of panicking or shrinking back in fear, Leng Yue straightened. She folded her arms across her chest and met the stranger’s eyes head-on, a faint, challenging smile curving her lips. “That depends…” Her voice remained perfectly calm. “Do you actually have what it takes to keep me in your bed?”
