SCARLET OMEGA
SCARLET’S POV
“Happy birthday, my sweet cakes!”
Alpha Diaz, Alpha of Silvermane pack and my father said, as he pressed his lips against Elena’s forehead.
Luna Martina pulled her into a warm hug, and tugged at her cheeks. “Your father and I are so proud of how much you fought to be here.”
A pinch splintered through my chest. I watched what should look like a picture of a beautiful family.
Except that I was Elena's twin, and my parents acted like I was invisible.
I watched the scene unfold before me, my body trembling with agitation. My father’s gaze shifted towards me, and dark clouds spread through his eyes.
“And why are you standing there like a mannequin!” His voice rang into my head. “Go and get your sister ready for her mating ceremony!”
I nodded, my eyes locked with Elena. A sinister smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.
She sighed. “Mum, Dad. Please, she's still my twin sister,” Elena made puppy eyes at my parents. “I know she’s still fuming because she’s giving me a little support.” Her voice was steady, but it carried a heavy mocking tone.
Little support?
“Little support?” The words dropped out of my mouth before I could think it through. “My wolf had to suffer because of you!” Maybe it was years of resentment, I didn’t care.
CRACK!
A loud slam landed on my face. My vision blurred, and a thousand stars circled around my eyes. I clung onto my cheeks, pushing back tears that threatened to spill.
“How dare you say that to your sister?” My father thundered. “And on her birthday?”
It was my birthday too.
“Father, please don’t hit my sister. She’s only trying to speak her mind,” Elena began in her signature soft voice she uses with our parents. “She blames me for losing her wolf, and being an Omega, while I shift and become Luna.”
Alpha Diaz scoffed. “Her wolf was cursed. It was never meant to be in the first place,” he said. “She’s not the chosen one.”
My mother, Luna Martina sighed. “Sugar plum, you don’t need to defend Scarlet Omega. She tried to rob you of your rights.”
Rage sizzled through my body. For seventeen years of my existence, I’ve had to live in Elena’s shadows. I gave everything that I had to make sure she was fine.
I was constantly overlooked by my parents, and made to suffer to keep Elena warm. My parents protected Elena like she was a golden egg.
Heck she was the golden egg.
Elena and I are twin sisters, but was picked for perfection before she was born. The moon goddess had given my parents a prophecy prior to our birth.
Their first child would be the next Luna. She’d have a special wolf, the first of its kind. Her abilities would be too powerful to be wielded by just anyone.
She’d had the mark of a red wolf at the back of her shoulder.
The first child would be a balance in the scheming world of the werewolf. Then, they had two, instead of one.
On the night we were born, Elena came out first.
She was the chosen one.
My parents overlooked me, and poured their love on her. She was their ticket to remaining in power. Even though I had the mark of the red wolf on my shoulders.
My father had insisted it didn’t matter. Maybe it really didn’t. When we turned eight, Elena pulled a stunt, and scarred my mark with hot coal.
‘Scarlet tried to attack me. I was defending myself.’ she’d said with tears staining her cheeks that night.
My parents punished me, and tossed me into the infirmary without care.
I was only eight.
The mark was covered, except for a peek beneath the scar that ran over it. Somehow, the mark of a red wolf appeared on Elena’s shoulders three moons later.
I’ve always known pain. I wasn’t even born an Omega. Yet, I was.
I didn’t even go to the wolves academy of arts highschool, even when I qualified.
Elena hadn’t passed her entrance examination into academy of arts highschool. So, I had to stay back in the Silvermane pack.
I watched my dream snatched because the favorite twin was incapable.
I was sidelined. Somehow, they made sure I bore the brunt of their decisions.
They were my family, but I was counting down to my eighteenth birthday to scent out my wolf, and leave the Silvermane pack for good.
And no, there was no point looking forward to anything.
I wasn’t going to shift.
My wolf was snapped out of my core before I had a chance to fully bloom. Before I got a chance to know her name.
I fought back the tears as dark memories pierced through my mind. Oh, the memory was embedded in my core, tied to my existence.
It was the day the Diaz family, my family, my birth parents betrayed me.
It was on our tenth birthday. I’d shifted for the first time under the bright moon. My bones had cracked and transformed into hind legs.
I saw the last ounce of love Elena had for me roll away in that instant. She hit my wolf, and made it look like my wolf tried to attack her.
Of course they believed her. It was strange for a young pup to shift that early.
My birth father, Alpha Diaz labeled me a ‘defect’ that was sent to sabotage the path of the chosen one. He was too blinded by his thirst to remain in power to think clearly.
So, he made me wake Elena’s wolf.
For seven years, the essence of my wolf was taken, and transferred into Elena’s bloodstream.
For seven years, I went through excruciating pain to awaken Elena’s wolf.
Several moons of sacrificing my wolf for Elena, I stopped feeling her stir in my spirit. She was too weakened to shift.
That was how I became an Omega; Scarlet Omega. The entire pack poked at me. They adored Elena, and ridiculed me.
Now, they tagged it ‘little support.’
I held the incident close to my heart, engraved in the delicate parts of my mind. It had been a short meeting with my wolf, but it was etched in my brain.
Her fur was red. Her eyes were amber. She’d tried to mindlink me when Elena had raised the alarm, cutting our meeting short.
“After tonight's mating ceremony, Elena wouldn’t need your help anymore,” my father said, his tone brash snapping me into my dark reality. “You should be grateful to her—”
“Scarlet Omega please,” Elena fell on her knees, and clasped her hands. Her voice spiked with ire as she said Omega.
Ah, she was such a good actor I give her credit for that.
Elena continued. “I take the blame. It’s my fault I’m the chosen one. It’s my fault you had to deal with all these.”
My father let out a groan. “Oh my God. Elena honey, your mother and I are very sorry you have to deal with all these,” he said, patting her hair. “A good sister is the only thing we failed to give you.”
Tears slipped down Elena’s cheeks. She shook her head slowly. “No, I’m the bad sister. Perhaps, if I wasn’t the first twin, Scarlet wouldn’t have to…” her voice trailed off as more tears slipped down her cheeks.
If I didn’t know better, I’d have believed Elena’s act.
A hiss. “Sweetheart, it doesn’t matter,” my father began in his soft voice. “She was meant to be an Omega. Her wolf was a defect. It shouldn’t have existed in the first place.”
