CHAPTER 12The next morning Bobbie said a quick goodbye and was on her way before seven a.m. Ryan hoped he’d get the chance to see her again. He and Miles took their time before leaving. No sense being included in hordes of commuters fighting the rush-hour traffic they would encounter heading into downtown Chicago, even on a Saturday morning. Since he had some time before they departed, Ryan decided to check in with Rebecca.
“Good morning. How are things in the Heartland?” Rebecca’s voice was cheery. Ryan hoped that meant her anxiousness over the responsibility of carrying her new show had passed.
“I’m having a fun adventure.”
“An adventure?” She seemed surprised.
“I’m helping my friend Miles with a case. Trying to locate a woman whose mom suspects is missing and in trouble.”
