Chapter Three

1493 Words
Mallory’s POV CRASH! After I fell down and hurt both of my knees, my attention immediately diverts to what’s in front of my very eyes: porcelain plates, the price thrice than my part time job’s salary, are all shattered into pieces. Seeing them all scattered on the floor, I know that I am once again screwed, resigning to the agony that will come soon. I hear a snicker from behind and I immediately turn to give them a deathly glare. The Cassidy twins are sitting comfortably at the dining table. Seth grins, enjoying my suffering and his older brother, Adrian is just staring at the broken plates on the floor. “You—!” I flinch as I groan from the stinging pain of my knees as soon as I attempt to raise my legs up. I was so focused on carrying the pile of plates which they forced me to bring to the sink and next thing I knew, I stumbled on something–most likely someone else’s foot, as it suddenly popped out of the way. No matter how you look at it, it was no accident. If the wounds from earlier morning weren’t enough for them. I have a feeling I would leave today all battered and bruised until they’re satisfied. “The clumsy ol’ jinx strikes again!” Seth jeers, clapping his hands as he gives a mischievous grin. Jinx. Apparently, the nickname got stuck once they found out from the internet that the meaning of Mallory means unfortunate. Parents usually name their children out of endearment, I guess it’s the opposite when it comes to mine. Woe, f*****g-me. I normally show them my middle finger but that would only worsen the situation. After all, I don’t want to be late after cooking them their damn breakfast. And besides, with their mother asleep, if she finds out about her favorite plates soon, I won’t leave this house the whole day with her nagging. But then again, I would be berated afterward. BUT it is better to spend my time with my boyfriend than being stuck with these assholes. But before I get the third piece, a hand forcefully yanks on my long wavy red hair, forcing me to face him. “FLYING f**k!” I yell, wincing in pain. And all I see is the older of the twins, Adrian, glaring at me as he yanks it harder till I am now facing him. “After all these years, you still have some backbone left.” His voice may be calmer than his younger twin but he is the one that I feared the most. Well, it’s a secret that I try to hide. “L-Let go of me, you prick!” I yell as I grab his collar with my trembling hand. I know I shouldn’t mess with the twins since we’re living under the same f*****g roof but Goddamn I want to give them a piece of my mind if the situation had been different! Stoic without a trace of emotion, yet Adrian is the only one capable of wetting my pants with just his stares: striking oceanic blue eyes that can peer right through your soul. Compared to Seth, he has a set of blue eyes. “You do know you have to pay for that, right?” “It wasn’t my fault! Seth definitely made me trip!” I continue to yell as I struggle to get away from his grip. Yet, my desperate pleas only make his grip tighter as I wince in pain. He shoves my face closer to his. “Oh, what is this, brother?!” I can hear the excitement and a hint of mockery from Seth’s tone. Seth starts whistling and jeering for Adrian as I gulp, too scared to even move, his warm breath touching my skin makes me nauseous at the pit of my stomach and my imagination is running wild. Yet, Adrian isn’t perturbed by this proximity before he says, “Is that how you were raised by your parents, Jinx? Accusing someone else’s brother without evidence?” My lips tremble and I hate myself for showing my fear when it comes to these men. “I…” Then he raises his brow. “You know the magic words, jinx and be done with it.” I almost growl and if I continue to fight back, I will only end up being more miserable than now. My eyes now conceding with utter defeat look down as I try to muster the words they want to hear. Words that would hurt my pride even more, every ounce of my pride is continuously being ridiculed by these men and I just let them be. “I…I’m s-sorry. I p-pay the-the damages…” Tears falling down from my eyes after seeing those hawk-like eyes mocking me as I tremble incessantly. Ah, s**t! Why, of all times, am I crying?! I shouldn’t cry! Not in front of these spawn of the devils! “Aww, now you made Mallory cry, Adrian!” Seth cackles as he leans on his seat. And I catch a glimpse from my tear-stricken eyes that his signature Chesire grin grows wider as he sees entertainment from my situation. The oldest twin scoffs as he harshly lets go of my head. “Clean the mess before mom wakes up.” I couldn’t look him in the eye as tears continued to fall. I hate crying and most of all, I hate showing my weakness to these assholes whose spare time is making my life miserable. I crouch down to continue picking up the shards. “Calling dibs on the last one!” My eyes widen as I turn to see Seth wolfing down my supposed breakfast for this morning. He devours the last pancake that I cooked and swallows it in one bite before Seth’s expression concocts a look of disgust as he glares at me. “Again, can’t you do anything right, Mallory? This is the worst pancake I’ve ever tasted!” But you and your brother ate the whole batch of my pancakes, is what I wanted to tell him but I’m too tired and too angry to refute so I continue to focus on picking up the shards. “Let’s go,” Adrian says. I can hear the movement of the chairs pushed forward and footsteps walking away from where I am. I am so glad that they left so I can continue cleaning the floor! Their mom is still asleep so I have some time to cook another batch of pancakes for her. As I try to pick the shard closest to their direction. One foot stomps on my hand. “Aah!” I cry as I immediately pull my injured hand, and small drops of blood come out from my palm. “Does that hurt, Mallory?” Of course, Seth decides to continue where he last left off and I just glare at him while holding my hand. “This is a payback for defying me this morning.” He chuckles, darkly as he smirks. “Told ya that I am in a bad mood.” I knew it! I hate this man! I continue to glare at him as I pull myself away from him. It would be futile to fight back. “I need to clean this up.” Just f*****g go away already, I thought with gritted teeth. So, I slouch down as I continue to pick the shards, this time, with my uninjured hand. “Well, once again, you were a great jester,” he hums as he turns and is about to leave the kitchen but he stops for a while, remembering something and glances at me. “Oh right, congratulations for turning eighteen tomorrow, Mallory,” he says, mockingly. And just like that, the asshole finally left! The feeling of hunger pangs and the pain inflicted on my skin are nothing compared to the emotional pain I have to endure all this time. All because of those damn twins! They’re the worst! I try to wipe the tears off from my eyes with my arms as I stand up to get the broom and the dustpan behind the kitchen counter. But, my face softens as Nigel’s face comes to my mind. The only one who can make me feel…like I belong to the pack. Yeah, I won’t shed tears today, I have to be extra beautiful for his sake. I will be eighteen tomorrow and will have my first ever shift. A-And right after that, Nigel will make love to me under the full moon and he can mark me as his mate. That’s the promise we both share. And once I will be finishing my senior year of high school, I can’t wait to leave this dreadful place, to get away from the Cassidy family. I, Mallory Black, will finally get my well-deserved happy ending.
