The Murder
Don Mario sat in the dimly lit bar, slowly swirling his glass of liquor. ‘‘Do you need company?’’ Anna threw herself on him, touching his body flirtingly. He didn't reply to her nor did he push her away, so she assumed he was pleased with it. The door swung open suddenly, and Franco appeared at his side. ‘‘Move away, lady’’ He ordered coldly and Anna scrambled away in fear. "Don, the car is ready," Franco said softly, inclining his head. "It's time to go." "Hmm," Don downed the rest of his glass and rose to his feet. "Let’s check out the new shipment." They made their way to the exit, with Franco trailing behind him. ‘‘Wait,’’ Don stopped Franco suddenly with his right hand raised slightly. He stared at the lady who had just walked in, a little smile on the corner of his lips. Hannah Cowell walked into the bar with a smile on her face. She was glad she got to clear her head before she headed home. Her brown eyes wandered around the place and they rested on him. His icy blue eyes formed a knot in her heart. Who is he? She wondered and strolled towards him. ‘‘Hi,’’ her smile deepened as she stood before Don, her face flushing beet red as she spoke. ‘‘Mind if I join you?’’ Don was dumbfounded at her boldness but at the same time intrigued by her. ‘‘Come on.’’ He led her back to his seat and dragged it backwards for her to sit. ‘‘I am Hannah,’’ she extended her hands forward for a handshake. ‘‘Hannah!’’ Don enunciated slowly and ran his eyes over her. He noticed the dimple on her left cheek when she spoke and the little line that was just under her left brow. His brows creased at the sight of the scar. Is she who he thinks she is? ‘‘Have we met before?’’ ‘‘Watch out!’’ She screamed suddenly and dragged his hands, pulling him downwards. A deafening sound rang out as a gunshot was fired into the air. The place was disrupted by screams of people scrambling out in fear. Swiftly, Franco pulled out his gun and exchanged shots with the gunman. ‘‘Hey, hey,’’ Don shook Hannah who was trembling under the table. ‘‘Look at me.’’ He held her pale hands and she grabbed them tightly. ‘‘Hmm.’’ She inhaled a deep breath to gain control, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. ‘‘Stay here,’’ he commanded with an assuring look. His countenance switched to a hard one as he pulled the trigger on the gunman with a flick of his finger and the man lay dead on the floor. ‘‘Clean the mess,’’ he said to Franco quietly and extended his hands to Hannah. ‘‘It's over now, you are safe!’’ Hannah nodded nervously and rubbed her sweaty hands down her dress and she stared at the body that lay dead on the floor. ‘‘Thank you,’’ Don said suddenly, interrupting her thought. ‘‘You saved my life, I'll repay you.’’ Her heart fluttered as she held her gaze in his. She smiled, saying nothing in response. ‘‘Do you need a ride home?’’ Don asked. She shook her head, ‘‘I'm good, I live not far from here.’’ ‘‘Okay.’’ Don watched her leave the bar and felt a bit of regret, he hadn't gotten the chance to ask her if they knew each other. ‘‘f**k Sylvester!’’ He cursed under his breath, fully aware of the instigator behind the incident. He turned to Franco and reminded him to dispose of the body before leaving the bar. *** ‘‘I beg you, forgive and spare us.’’ Wilson pleaded desperately as he lay on the floor, his wife beside him. He had not expected to see Don alive despite the rumour he had been hearing of his arrival so he could only plead for his life. ‘‘We are sorry for the loss of your parents but we had nothing to do with it.’’ He explained, ‘‘It… it was done by others.’’ He let out a… Don scoffed. He uncrossed his legs and leaned forward on the sofa, ‘‘Forgive you? Spare you? Was that how they also pleaded with you to spare their lives?’’ He clicked his tongue and tutted, ‘‘You left me alone in the wilderness to die and fend for myself and now you plead mercy?’’ Don rose from his seat and walked to the wall where Wilson’s family album lay. ‘‘You can ask my parents about that when you meet them.’’ His deep voice boomed coldly without emotions. ‘‘You will regret this,’’ Out of nowhere, Wilson brought out a gun and aimed it at Don but Franco was quick to react. He fired the bullet at Wilson. ‘‘Honey!’’ Jacqueline cried out as his body fell down beside her, blood streaming from his head where the shot landed. ‘‘We should have killed you back then.’’ She screamed violently and tried to ram herself towards them. Bang. A shot landed at her chest and she lay dead beside her husband. ‘‘Tsk, tsk, what a sore sight.’’ Don spat, his eyes brimming with disgust and anger. Franco turned his gun again towards the door as they heard footsteps approach. He looked nervously at Don who appeared unmoved by the supposed danger. The door knob turned and someone entered. Don squinted his eyes at the person by the door. ‘‘Hannah?’’ he murmured under his breath, not forgetting the brown-eyed lady with blonde hair and dimples at the bar. Hannah walked into the house, excitement written over her, she couldn't wait to tell her family what had happened to her. ‘‘Mum, Dad, I'm home.’’ As she entered the house, her eyes fell on the bodies that lay on the floor and the smile wiped away from her face immediately. ‘‘Ah!’’ She shrieked, raising her hands to her mouth and causing the polythene bag in her hands to fall. Her mind raced faster, leaving her breathless as she tried to put the picture together. Not noticing the strangers in the room, she rushed towards them. ‘‘Mum, Dad,’’ her voice trembled as she called out, shaking them furiously. The sound of a gun clicking brought her attention to the two men in the room. Don took the gun away from Franco to stop him. Hannah looked at them with rage, she picked up her dad’s gun that lay on the floor and pointed it at him. ‘‘Was it you? Did you kill my parents?’’ ‘‘You promised to repay me, is it by killing them?’’ Her hands twitched gently but she was determined to look brave. Don watched her hesitate and smiled at her cuteness, ‘‘You don't know how to use a gun, do you? It's not even loaded.’’ He moved closer to her. ‘‘Don’t worry, all you have to do is watch and learn.’’ He snatched the gun away from her and pulled the trigger. Hannah held her breath as he traced the gun from her head down to her chest with lustful eyes. ‘‘You better kill me now or I will kill you myself,’’ she ground her teeth. ‘‘Haha,’’ he laughed out maniacally. ‘‘You really think their worthless lives have any value to me? You are wrong darling.’’ ‘‘I can easily end your life right here except you have something to offer me.’’ His eyes moved to her scar again and he remembered why she looked familiar. He pulled her closer to him by the waist and forced a kiss on her. ‘‘Get away from me, you bastard.’’ She bit him hard on the lips and pushed him away, wiping her lips in disgust. ‘‘Bastard…’’ He spat out, licking his lips in pain. ‘‘Bring him out,’’ he said to Franco. ‘‘You think you have nothing to lose? Watch me.’’
