Familiar tragedy

Haven City is a place where you'll see all there to see just like any other city. There's the classy side of town, and then there's the side no one wants to talk about. From gangs to corrupted mayors , from caring citizens to those who couldn't care even if you paid them too. Lainey knew all there was to know about Haven City she's been on the dark side , the middle class, and the best parts of the city. Everybody knew Lainey owned almost half of the city, but no one truly knew who the real Lainey Devin was or where she came from. Lainey was a real mystery to the people , she was kind to everyone she met, and no one could resit looking at her when she entered a room. She had green eyes with a hint of grey , she had dark ash blonde curly hair that complimented her green eyes. She had a slender built figure with curves in just the right places , she has always been short, but that did not bother her. Lainey's pov "Shae, can you please get Mr Harding on the phone ?" i asked my assistant "Yes, Ms. Devin , i'll put him through on line one," Shae answered in a friendly tone. Mr Harding and his wife own a farm just outside of town , i've been trying to make a deal with them, but they won't speak to anyone. About two years ago Mr Harding had a s***ke that left him pretty much tied to a wheelchair and ever since the s***ke the farm went out backwards , they had to take out mortage loan and sell off pieces off land just so the bank wouldn't take the farm from them. Everybody has been trying to get their hands on the farm, and some have taken some extreme measures, but nothing will break the Harding. I am not trying to take the farm from them i want to invest in the farm and bring in people to manage the farm , that way Mr and Mrs Harding will still have their farm and they will be able to pay off their debt. Mr Harding has finally agreed to meet me to hear what i have to offer . It has not been easy to get him to do so he is reluctant. "Hello , Ron Harding speaking." he answered with a shakey voice "Hello Mr Harding , it is Lainey Devin , how are you doing ?" i asked. "Ms Devin, it is good to hear from you , i am as good as can be. How are things with you ?" "Please call me Lainey , i have no complaints. Mr Harding i am call to ask if i can come tow to the farm to speak with you and Mrs Harding in person , i would love to come and see the farm and discuss my offer" i spoke with a professional and friendly tone. "That would be just fine . How does tomorrow 10AM sound ? Will that be all right with you, Lainey? " "10AM is perfect , see you then Mr Hardinge , have a lovely day." I called Shae to have her clear my schedule for the rest of tomorrow. CELLPHONE RINGING "Hello Annabelle , is everything all right ?" I asked "Hello LaiLai , everything is fine , i wanted to know if you will be home at your usual time ? Dinner is ready. i made you a home cooked meal with all your favorites, " She answerd with with a motherly tone. "Oh, Anna, you are the best ! I'm just finishing up at work. i will be home within the next hour. " "See you then , be safe," Annabelle has been taking care of me ever since i was a little girl . After what happened to my mom, she promised never to leave my side , she has been like a mother to me. Annabelle has two daughters of her own they are a few years older than i am , we were inseprabile, but a lot has happened the past few years that pushed us apart. Annabell has her own house on the same property where i live, i did not feel right to have her rent a place in the city when i have the money to build her a home exaclty the way she wants it. It's the least i could , afterall she did take care of me and treated me as her own. i owe her my life. As i pulled into the driveway, Anna was already waiting for me at the front door , she did this every day. We walked into the house together . i placed my keys and briefcase on the table at the front door and proceeded to the living room.Anna made her way to the kitchen and brought out our meals. This was the only reason i wanted to come home , we had our little routine , and we would sit in front of the TV and eat our dinner while we watched our series. After dinner, we would go sit on the deck by the pool and have a chat , we always found something new to talk about. After our chat, we will go our separate ways for the night. Whenever Anna went to visit her daughters, i would work late to avoid going home to an empty space , i hated being on my own. Being alone meant i would get lost in my own mind, which meant i would be reliving the trauma. I tried to keep busy as much as i could whenever she was not around. I decided not to take Shae with me to the Harding farm , i needed her to keep an eye on things at the office while i made the trip. I have always loved the Harding farm house , i have never seen it up close only when i drove past it on my way to nowhere. It was like something out of a movie , the house was painted white with a grey roof. From the outside it loked homey with a wrap around porvh that would be perfect for afternoon down time with a glass of wine , the view from the porch was what caught my attention , it was land and rees as far as the eye could see , the perfect escape from all the city lights , tall buildings and cars rushing by. Mrs Harding walked towards my car with one of her foals on a lunge line, he was dark chocolate brown from head to tail , in the centre of his face was one white patch , a perfect heart shaped patch. "You must be Ms Lainey Devin , i am Mary-Kate." she said, flashing a smile. "Please call me Lainey. And who is this precious baby?" "This is Heartly , as you can see by the patch on his face , the newest edition in our stalls. Let me take him back to his mama , and then we can get down to business." she said as she made her way to a gate where the other horses were.
