The Cursed One

Wrapped in the safety of Alex's arms, enveloped in the bond that was now our greatest strength, I fell into a deep sleep. But it was not a restful sleep. It was filled with dreams and visions, born from the power now awakening within me. I found myself standing in a deep, ancient forest. The air smelled different—of old earth, rotting leaves, and a wild energy as sharp as lightning. The moon hung in the sky like a giant, blood-red orb, bathing the land in an ominous crimson glow. In the distance, wolf howls echoed, but they sounded mournful and pained, as if in great agony. Then, I saw him. A massive, grey wolf, its eyes glowing with the same green that was in Alex's eyes. But these eyes held madness, an uncontrolled savagery. He looked at me, and in his eyes, I could see my own reflection—terrified, but resolute. He growled, drool dripping from his maw, and he lunged at me... I woke up gasping, my heart pounding against my ribs. Morning sun was streaming into the room, but the terrifying feeling of the dream still clung to me. Alex's side of the bed was empty, but his scent lingered on the pillow. Then, my eyes fell on the bedside table. The old, leather-bound book Alex had shown me last night was there. But now it was open, and on the open page was an illustration—a massive, grey wolf, exactly like the one I had seen in my dream. Beneath it was written: "Lycan—The Cursed One. The First Alpha." My blood ran cold. Was my dream just a dream? Or was it something more? I picked up the book and began to turn the pages. It wasn't a history book; it was a book of prophecies. It spoke of "The Grey One," a powerful Alpha who had lost his marked one and descended into madness. He had destroyed his own pack, and his spirit now wandered, trying to corrupt other Alphas, pulling them into his own insanity. The book stated that only a "True Mate"—a marked one with power of her own—could stop him. "The Grey One" was corrupting Marcus and his pack. That was why they were so unstable and full of craving. And now, he was after Alex. Because Alex now had me—a "True Mate." Just then, Alex entered the room. He took in my pale face and the book in my hands. Concern instantly flashed in his eyes. "Julie? What happened?" he asked, coming to my side swiftly. I showed him the book, the page with the illustration of "The Grey One." "I saw him in my dream," I said, my voice trembling. "He... he's after you, isn't he? He wants to corrupt you." Alex's face grew grim. He took the book and closed it. "Yes," he answered bluntly. "Marcus and his pack are his puppets. But he cannot have me, Julie. Not while I have you. Your bond... your power... it keeps me stable." "But he will try," I said, the feeling of the dream frightening me. "He will try to take me, won't he? To weaken you." A dangerous glint entered Alex's eyes. "He will try," he said, a cold growl in his voice. "But I will not let him near you. I will destroy his entire pack if he so much as touches you." He took my hand, and his touch was filled with both comfort and resolve. "But we must be careful. He is cunning. And he can reach you in your dreams, as you've seen. That is part of his power." "So what do we do?" I asked, trying to steady my voice. "We prepare," he said. "You must learn to control your power. And we must find where 'The Grey One' is hiding. Destroying him is the only way." He led me downstairs to the living room, where he had a table laid out with maps and documents. "These are maps of all the locations where Marcus and his pack have been sighted," he explained. "And these," he pointed to some ancient manuscripts, "are about the places where 'The Grey One' was first sensed." We spent the entire day in research. Alex taught me about Alpha history, their strengths and weaknesses. I learned that "The Grey One" was not just a wandering spirit; he was a powerful entity that could control the minds of weak Alphas. To destroy him, we had to find his physical anchor—the object or place where his power was concentrated. In the afternoon, as we were lost in piles of documents, the doorbell rang. Alex was instantly alert. He looked out the window, and tension lined his face. "Who is it?" I asked. "Marcus," he replied, his voice laden with danger. "Alone." "Should we let him in?" I asked, afraid. "No," Alex said. "But we need to find out what he wants. You stay here." He went to answer the door, and I listened to the conversation from my hiding spot. "Alex," Marcus's voice came, laced with a false sweetness. "I've come to make peace." "There has never been peace between us, Marcus," Alex answered in a cold tone. "Circumstances have changed," Marcus said. "We've heard your marked one... is special. 'The Grey One' is interested in her." "She is mine," Alex growled. "And no one will touch her." "Perhaps you are wrong," Marcus said, a dangerous melody entering his voice. "Perhaps she is bigger than you. Perhaps she is bigger than all of us. Let her come with us, Alex. We will show her a power you've never even imagined." "Get out," Alex snarled, and I heard the door slam shut. He came back into the living room, his face flushed with anger. "He came here to warn us," he said. "'The Grey One' knows who you are. And he wants you." "Are we safe?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. "For now, yes," he said, coming to me. "But we must hurry. We have to find him, Julie. We have to find 'The Grey One' before he finds us." He took my hand, and in his eyes, I saw the same resolve I had seen in the dream. But this time, it was filled not with fear, but with power. We were no longer just an Alpha and his marked one. We were partners, a unit. And we were about to face an enemy that was centuries old. "Where do we start?" I asked, my voice steadier now. Alex pointed to the map, where a red circle marked a specific location. "From here," he said. "A place where 'The Grey One' was first sensed. An abandoned mine, in the heart of the forest. And we are going there now." My heart pounded at his words, but alongside the fear was excitement. This was to be our first battle. And I was ready. Because now, I knew I wasn't just a girl who had been saved. I was a warrior. And I was going to fight alongside my Alpha. Alex ordered me to get ready. Our destination: the abandoned mine in the deepest, darkest part of the forest. But night had fallen, and Alex decided it was better to leave before first light. That meant we had the whole night. And the hunger on Alex's face was not just for battle. "We will need strength," he said, his eyes roaming over my body as if looking at a weapon he needed to sharpen. "And our bond is our greatest strength. Tonight, we will deepen it further." His tone was both a promise and a threat. He led me to the bedroom, but this time, it felt like a pre-war ritual. The air was electric, and Alex's scent—that wild, primal scent—had grown even more intense, as if he was awakening the beast within. "Take off your clothes," he commanded, his voice turning into a dangerous rumble. I showed no hesitation. I was a warrior, and this was my ritual. I shed my clothes, shedding the old world where I was prey with every layer. When I stood naked, I held my head high, meeting his gaze. He looked at me with a long, deep gaze, and the green in his eyes turned into a blazing, living thing. "How powerful you are," he whispered, and then he was upon me. He pushed me onto the bed, his movements aggressive and full of claim. This was not lovemaking; it was possession. A claim on a partner. Marking a warrior. He pinned my hands above my head and looked into my eyes. "Tonight, I will show you what an Alpha truly is," he growled. "And you will show me what a marked one can endure." He took me with a roughness that was pure claim, every thrust a challenge. A dark wave of pain and pleasure enveloped me, but I held his gaze, not yielding to him. My nails dug into his back, and I bit his shoulder, an animalistic response that came from deep within me.
