Forbidden Whispers

He took a step towards me, and Alex immediately pulled me behind him. "You will not touch her," Alex snarled. "But I already have," The Grey One said. "I am in her dreams. I am in her thoughts. And soon, I will be in her body, too." He attacked suddenly, but this time, using my mother's body. She was astonishingly fast and strong. She struck at Alex, and the fight between them began anew. But this time, Alex was struggling. He did not want to hurt my mother's body, while The Grey One had no such reservations. He struck at Alex brutally, and I watched as cuts and bruises appeared on Alex's body. "Alex!" I cried, and I reached for my power again. But this time, as I tried to send it to Alex, The Grey One raised a hand and blocked it. "No, my dear," he said in my mother's voice, but with a poisonous sweetness. "Your power is mine now." He absorbed my power, and a blast of black light threw Alex backward. He hit the wall and slid down, unconscious. "Alex!" I screamed and ran to him, but The Grey One caught my arm. "Don't worry," he said, his grip like iron. "He is not dead. Not yet. I need his body, remember?" He dragged me towards the crystal. "But first, you. Your power... it will be mine." He forced my arm towards the crystal, and I felt a painful, magnetic pull. He was siphoning my power! I struggled, but his hold was too strong. Then, my eyes fell on Alex, still unconscious on the floor. And then, I felt something else—not just our bond, but something more... something deep, something ancient. It was The Grey One's own power, but at its core was a fissure—a weakness. He had lost his marked one. And his pain... his loneliness... it was his greatest weakness. I stopped struggling. Instead, I opened myself to him, pouring out not just my power, but my emotions—my love for Alex, my loyalty, our bond. The Grey One gasped in surprise. "What...? What is this?" "This is what you lost," I whispered, tears in my eyes but my voice firm. "This is what you are searching for." His grip loosened. A struggle was visible on my mother's face, as if The Grey One was fighting from within. "No..." he growled, but his voice was weak. "This... is impossible..." I wrenched my hand free and turned to the crystal. I grabbed it—it felt burning and pulsating in my palm. "It is over," I said, and I hurled it to the floor. The crystal shattered, and an explosion of black light erupted. A long, pained scream echoed in the air, and then, silence. My mother collapsed to the floor, unconscious. And the presence of The Grey One was gone. I ran to Alex and cradled him in my lap. His eyes fluttered open slowly, the green returning to them. "Julie...?" he gasped. "It's over," I said, crying as I touched his face. "He's gone." He took a deep breath and sat up. He looked at me, and in his eyes was an expression I recognized—love, pride, and a bond that would now never break. "You defeated him," he whispered. "You defeated The Grey One." "No," I said, kissing his lips. "We defeated him." We sat there, holding each other, until the first rays of morning light filtered into the room. The battle was won, but the war was not over. The Grey One's existence was ended, but there were other dangers in the world. But now, we knew we were together. An Alpha and his marked one. And nothing could stop us. But as we rose, my eye caught a fragment of the shattered crystal. It was still faintly pulsating, as if a spark of life remained within it. And in the distance, very far away, I heard another scream—a familiar, poisonous scream. The Grey One was not dead. He was only weakened. And he would be back. But now, we were ready. The broken piece of crystal lay there, faintly pulsating, as if still clinging to a heartbeat, a faint glimmer of life clinging within its shattered form. As I glanced closer, a chilling scream echoed from afar—a scream unmistakably venomous, hauntingly familiar. "The Grey One" was not dead. He had merely been weakened. And he would come back. But this time—we were ready. Alex’s voice interrupted my swirling thoughts, steady and grounding as his hand rested firmly on my shoulder. "You see it, don’t you?" I nodded slowly, eyes fixed on the dark, pulsating shard. "He’s still alive... just broken." Alex’s voice carried a low, wild growl, the unmistakable sign of an Alpha sensing danger. "We’ll destroy him completely. But first, we need to take care of your mother." My gaze shifted to the woman lying unconscious on the floor—my mother. Or the woman who used to be my mother. An empty void filled my heart—not sorrow, but a hollow calm. She had betrayed me. She had allowed "The Grey One" to reside within her. Yet, she was still my mother. "Will... will she be okay?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. Physically, yes," Alex said, his eyes appraising my mother’s now calm and vacant face. "But a Luna's body can’t last long without an Alpha’s energy, especially after such powerful influence." "Does that mean she’ll die?" My whispered question hovered in the quiet room. “No," he said, locking eyes with me, a deeper, complicated emotion shining within them. "But she’ll need an Alpha. And I can’t be that Alpha." The message was clear. He meant no harm to me or my bond. But it also meant my mother would rely on someone else—perhaps another member of Marcus’s pack. The thought made my stomach twist. "We have to leave this place," Alex said sharply, lifting my mother’s body with a cold detachment, as if performing a necessary task. "This place is no longer safe. The energy of 'The Grey One' still lingers. He’ll return, and we must be ready." Leaving the bungalow felt like abandoning a fragile sanctuary. Alex guided us to a secret safe house on the outskirts of the city—a sleek, modern apartment fortified with heavy curtains and state-of-the-art security. As he laid my mother gently on a bed, my mind churned with an urgent question. "What now? How do we end ‘The Grey One’?" From his pocket, Alex pulled out the black crystal shard he had retrieved from the secret chamber. It pulsed weakly, casting a sickly blue light. "Through this," he explained. "It holds a piece of his power. A vulnerable piece. We’ll use it to track and destroy him." "How?" Alex’s eyes darkened with resolve. "With a ritual. One that requires the full strength of an Alpha and his Marked mate. This crystal will act like a magnet. It drew him to us once—now we will draw him out, and strike at his heart." A chill ran down my spine. "It sounds dangerous." "Anything worth fighting for is," Alex said, gripping my hand firmly, his fingers wrapping around my wrist like a protective shield. "But we have no choice. As long as he lives, you’re not safe. Neither are we." His words rang true. "The Grey One" had marked me. He wanted my power—would not stop until he had it or was destroyed. "Alright," I said, steels in my voice. "We’ll do it. We’ll end him." A wild, proud smile crept across Alex’s lips. "I knew you’d say that." He moved close, pressing his forehead against mine. "But first, you must rest. The ritual will demand all your strength. All of it." He led me into another bedroom—a plain, white room with a large bed. "Sleep," he commanded, his voice soft and meant only for me. "I’ll keep watch." But as I closed my eyes, sleep evaded me. Instead, a storm of thoughts and fears took over. The red glare of "The Grey One’s" eyes. My mother’s hollow face. Alex’s wounded form. And the steady pulse of that crystal—a poisonous reminder that the enemy was still out there. Then, breaking through the silence, a whisper sliced through the air. "Julie..." I sat up, heart pounding. The room was empty. But the whisper came again, this time directly into my mind. "You are mine... you have always been mine..." It was "The Grey One," invading my dreams once more. "Your Alpha can’t protect you," his voice slithered like a venomous serpent, crawling into my thoughts. "He weakens you. Controls you. Come with me, and I will show you what you can become." "Go away," I whispered, covering my ears, pretending he wasn’t there. "You are his Mark... but you can be my Queen," he tempted. "Together, we could rule this world. All Alphas would kneel before us. Your mother... she would serve you. Just come... to me." There was an irresistible attraction, a dark, dangerous allure. A promise of infinite power. A promise to bring my mother back. But then, I saw Alex’s face. The green in his eyes. The warmth of his touch. The strength of our bond. "No," I said loudly, my voice echoing in the room. "I am his. And I will never be yours." A fury-filled scream tore through the air as the whisper vanished. Silence returned, with only a lingering sense of danger hanging heavily around us. The door burst open, and Alex entered, eyes wide, tension etched into his frame. "Julie? What happened? I heard you scream." "He was here," I said, trembling now that the danger had passed. "He spoke to me. Inside my mind." Alex’s face hardened, scanning the room as if he could physically see the enemy. "What did he say?" "He... tempted me," I said, looking into Alex’s eyes, wanting him to understand. "With power. With my mother’s fate. He said you weaken me." A wild spark ignited in Alex’s eyes. He stepped close, cupping my face in his hands, gentle but firm. "Do you think I weaken you, Julie? Do you think I limit your power?"
