Chapter 5 : The Ball

1122 Words
There was to be a ball tonight and the maid took Dragon and myself into town to look for a gown. The whole time that we were out I noticed that the women kept looking at him and it didn't really bother me because I knew that he was my mate, what bothered me was the fact that the maid clearly had a thing for him. Since we came into town she kept hinting at the fact that I was only a solider. We were in a dress shop and Dragon waited outside for me when she brought up her concerns as she later put it. "You are simply a solider, why the prince ever chose you I won't know." She said causally while holding up a dress for me to view. "That's really none of your concern." I said remaining calm. "It is my concern, because I am in love with the Prince and I want to see him happy. He should have been marrying the Princess not you." She said in tone that I didn't recognize. "How is that even remotely okay. If you love him why would you want him with someone else, shouldn't you be with him." I asked. "It's because I love him that I want to see him happy." She said. "Can you not see that he is happy with me?" I asked. "He thinks that he is happy with you and that you are the one, but I really only see a gold digging peasant." She sneered. "He is my mate and we are meant to be together." I said, holding back my anger. "I think that you are pretending to be his mate so that you can be queen. Dragon has pursued you for years and now you suddenly want to be with him." She snorted. "I could have you banished for that kind of talk." Dragon said from behind. "My Prince, I did not realize that you had come into the store." She stumbled over her words. "Clearly, otherwise you wouldn't have spoken to my bride that way." He said in a warning tone. "I only have your best interest in mind, I swear it." She said in a polite voice and bowed to him. "Ember is my mate and we have imprinted on each other and you know what that means." Dragon said his voice dark, and I knew that voice. He was angry. "Oh my, I did not realize. You will have to forgive me my Prince and Princess." She said and bowed to me. "I will request a new maid for my bride once we are back to the palace and you can work as brothers brides new maid." Dragon said and came over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Yes my Prince, I understand." The maid said. "What is your name?" I asked, remaining polite. "I am Armelle, I was once the daughter of a Noble Lord until he fell to the dark side, now I am only a servant." She said. "Maybe one day we can find a Lord to marry you." Dragon said what I was thinking. "Thank you, Prince. You are to kind." She said. "Just remember that Ember is my bride and that will not change no matter what anyone tries. The laws about the imprinted mates are clear." Dragon said and I saw a nervous look come over her face. "My Lord I have an imprinted mate, but he would never want to be with me so I have kept it secret." She said and shock was all over my face, and so was Dragons face. "Who is and I will make sure that it happens?" Dragon asked. "My Prince he is the Prince from our Neighboring Kingdom and brother to your brothers bride. He will never have me. The moment that our eyes meet when he brought his sister here he simply looked away as if I was no one." She said sadly. "I will make sure that it happens. I will talk to him personally, but why would you target Ember and try to break things up, you know what the penalty can be for that?" Dragon asked her. "I know the penalty, but please understand something, I did not want Ember to suffer. Ember is a kind soul and I didn't want her to be hurt the way that I have been hurting since I imprinted on him." She said and looked at me sadly. "I will not punish you, in fact no one will know of this conversation. Did you happen to get the Princes name because I am ashamed to say that I don't know his name?" Dragon asked. "His name is Alvar and his sister is Alavina, Sir." She replied. "I will talk to Alvar at the ball tonight and make sure that you get a gown as well." Dragon said. "My Prince, I couldn't possibly afford any of these dresses." She said in a humble voice. "The dress is on me, but remember you can't ever treat my mate and my future Queen the way you did again." Dragon said in a kind voice. "I understand, My Prince." She said a bowed. "I am going to wait outside while you ladies get your dresses, but please hurry I believe that we have been out too long and father will worry." Dragon said and walked outside. Dragon was never one to spend a lot of time in girly places because he didn't enjoy shopping. Armelle and I continued to shop and look for different items. Her dress was a simple blue gown with a Diamond encrusted top and exposed back and was not strapless. The diamonds extended down to the bottom of the gown. She had simple blonde hair that was in a tight bun, large breast, fair skin, and light gray eyes, it was the trade mark of her family, I remember them now. Her father chosen the dark side and abandoned her. In a way I felt sorry for her, but as long as Alvar accepts her she will have a great life. My hair was red with gold streaks in it, my eyes were violet with blue flecks in them and I had a milky skin tone. I picked a red gown that was strapless with gold designs at the top and the bottom and had a slight V-neck. It would look great on me and know that Dragon will love it as well. We grabbed shoes to match our gowns and jewelry as well. The maids would take care of hair like they always do and then we headed out to find Dragon was pacing, we must have taken to long.
