Chapter 1 : The Wanderer

I wondered the streets in search of something I didn't even know what it was. I had been Walking for hours, to most it I looked like I was lost, but I really wasn't. I knew how to get back home and what street I was on. I remember that I woke up this morning with a note that said I had to travel to an ancient prayer temple in Korea to find that which I seek. I don't understand the note, nor can I find the temple the note speaks of. I know that king sent two guards with me, Dragon and FoxFlame. I really wish the king hadn't sent Dragon; he knows how Dragon feels about me. I finally made it to the prayer temple and looked around, until an old man walked up to me and handed me a scroll. I opened the scroll and knew that is was the next clue. I took it home so that FoxFlame could help me figure out where to look next. I took the long way around hoping that I could avoid Dragon. I made it back to the house and the only person there was FoxFlame, thank goodness. I went inside and he immediately looked up at me and smile. "Ember, you back!" FoxFlame said with a smile. "Yeah I found the next clue. The priest handed it to me and then walked away." I said. "Let me have a look." FoxFlame said. He opened the scroll and began to read aloud. "In the depth of the roses lies a lonely cave with nothing more than a rare treasure. The roses hide what has been hidden and on a lonely mountain is hidden the lost jewel. Sought by many found by none. The trails are dangerous and only the worthy can survive them. Do not underestimate the dark roads that lie ahead." FoxFlame finished reading with a confused look on his face. "Where could that be?" I asked "Let me think. On an island, hidden by roses." FoxFlame repeated. He thought and reread the sentences and then gasped. "It's got to be the hidden Island, Roseland. No fairy has ever ventured there it is forbidden. Why would the king send you there?" FoxFlame asked. "I don't know, but it must be important if he is sending me to a forbidden Island." I replied. "You are probably right; my only concern is why the King would send you somewhere where there are untold dangerous and unknown spells." FoxFlame sighed a leaned back against the couch they had been sitting in front of and I did the same. "The king knows what he is doing, I just hope that he is right about this decision." I said, and just as I finished the door opened to reveal Dragon, he looked really distraught. "May I have a moment with Ember please?" Dragon asked. I groaned, and FoxFlame couldn't say no. "Of course, sir. I will be right outside." FoxFlame replied and he walked out the door and out of earshot. "What is it you need Dragon?" I asked. "I need tell you something important." Dragon replied. "What is it Dragon? Are you okay?" I asked "My father has contacted me. I am to marry when we return. Since you refuse to marry me, I have to marry some bimbo from a neighboring kingdom." Dragon replied. "Dragon you know why I won't marry you." I said. "I beg you to reconsider. I want you in my life. I know that you felt the spark when I kissed you that day, I felt it. I haven't looked at any girl since that day. I haven't thought of anyone but you." Dragon said. "I think you are over reacting. There is nothing between us and never will be." I replied. Dragon once again pulled me to him and kissed me hard and needy. There was raw passion and love. I could feel the spark, but I would never tell him that. He pulled me closer in an attempt to get me to kiss him back. Finally, my arms circled around his neck and kissed him back. I never wanted the moment to end, but I knew that it was wrong. He pulled me even closer, causing me to trip and tumble onto the floor, where he deepened the kiss. I wanted to pull away and tell him how wrong this was, but something keeps me from doing so. There was raw need in the kiss, but I finally managed to pull away and get out from underneath him. "Dragon this is wrong. When we get back, you need to marry that girl you dad chooses for you." I said. "Ember please we have been over this. I only want you and no one else." Dragon pleaded. I had to admit, I did love the kiss and wanted more of it, but I knew that Dragon needed to marry someone of royal blood so that the lineage would stay pure. "I really want you to understand that I am not good for you. You need to marry someone of royal blood, keep your lineage pure." I said. "Ember would you listen to me. I don't need to marry royalty. My dad didn't and I don't have to either. He chooses who he wanted to marry, and I have chosen who I wanted to marry." Dragon replied. "I am flattered Dragon, but we have a task at hand that we need to complete." I replied. "I not giving up on you Ember." Dragon said and then went to his room without another word. I knew that he would not come back out for the rest of the night and that he meant what he said, he would not give up and do whatever it took to make me his queen. I wish I could tell him how I felt, but to me that was wrong. Many years ago, our law stated that royalty could not marry non royalty, but that all changed when Dragon's father married a woman from the village. There was upset at first, but then the law was changed, and riots stopped. People thought his father would bring ruin to the village, but it was quite the opposite. It turned out that the king brought peace to the kingdom and united all the other kingdoms. Never in fairy history had this been done. The only problem we had now was the evil fairies and their need to destroy us all and bring darkness to the world. Most evil fairies sought to bring the good to their side or they killed you. "Are you okay?" I looked up to see FoxFlame in the door with a concerned look on his face. "Yeah I'm fine, just have a lot to think about, that is all that it is." I replied, but I could tell that he wasn't convinced. "Did Dragon make a move again?" FoxFlame asked. "Yes, but you shouldn't need to ask that. I keep thinking that he will get over me, but he seems to want me more and more as time progresses." I replied. "Ember, maybe you should address the king about this matter. If you don't want Dragon going after you anymore, surely the king will make him stop." FoxFlame said. "It's not that simple. The king supports him and thinks that he should pursue me. In the king's eyes, this will keep the peace." I replied. "So, in other words, the king will probably make you marry him for his own purposes!" FoxFlame remarked. "He does that, and I will run away and hide somewhere. I don't care where I go or what I do, I will not marry him." I replied. "Ember I know that it's not something that you want to do, but Dragon can be a really good guy. At times he can be difficult, but you got to understand Dragon lost his mother and no one talks about it ever." FoxFlame replied. "What happened to his mother, do you know?" I asked, my curiosity sparked by this new piece of information. For some reason I had still believed his mother was alive. "I don't know much, but what I do know isn't good." FoxFlame didn't get to finish because he was interrupted by Dragon. "Enough, I don't want Ember knowing about this." I looked at Dragon and he had a deadly look in his eyes that had hints of anger. This was a side of Dragon that I don't think anyone has seen. Something was different and I needed to know. Something about Dragons mother had done this. "FoxFlame go to town and get some food for us please!" I said, he didn't say anything, just grabbed some money and walked out the door. "Tell me about your mother." I said. "I can't. It's just too hard." Dragon replied. "I won't tell anyone." I said, he sighed and sat and began a tale that I knew would be a long one.
