Chapter - 29

“Seriously! No one would have thought or even imagined a planet full of people with almost millions or close to billions in number would suddenly turn against one another. They would have to abandon a clan or even banish them as the law came into effect. I can see the stupidity in the law more clearly now,” Brenda muttered. She then gritted her teeth and her anger directed towards her husband who did not help her when she was in danger of getting an outcast. ‘Do you know, what’s the actual funny thing here? It all started because of a decree that the militants received from the Asran star. The council sitting on that high star, who had always remained neutral to all the planets in its Asran system has now started to act against quite a few minor communities. It is now sending decrees to all the planets and trying to banish the people with special abilities,’ Brenda thought and kicked the ground in frustration. So many people are fleeing for their lives and hiding as if they have committed a huge sin or a grave crime. When in reality they did nothing wrong. Also, many kids were taken away or disappeared from their homes and every wrongdoing in the society suddenly got connected to their clan- ‘Lambanies’. All of a sudden out of nowhere, David asked them, “What if the decree is not from the council and it is a forgery?” Brenda and Sussan lifted their head together and looked at him in surprise.  ‘How could David know about the decree? There is no way he could have heard me as I only thought about the decree in my head and did not share the details with anyone yet,’ Brenda thought while giving David a scrutinizing gaze. Moreover, it is a top military secret, and other than the higher-ups involved in that operation no one knew about it. Even Brenda came to know about the decree just by coincidence when she was on her way to meet her husband after receiving the eviction notice. Even though Sussan and Brenda turned towards David and gazed at him in awe, they both had different elements of surprise. Brenda hid her emotions and said, “It is not impossible but the seal which I saw on the letter in my husband’s office, it is real! I saw the decree once and it is a hundred percent original. But...”  Sussan immediately interrupted and asked her, “Hold on for a second! What decree? What is happening here? Why do I feel like I am the only one who is not following anything in your conversation?” David and Brenda looked at one another as they were not sure how Sussan would react if she came to know about the decree. Even though Brenda had her own uncertainty about the decree and could not point out exactly what was wrong with it, she still believed that it was one hundred percent real. But her heart kept on saying that something definitely did not feel quite right about that decree. Sussan lost her patience as both David and Brenda glanced at one another and then did not say anything to her about the decree. They both wanted to pretend to be innocent as they understand Sussan’s character well enough.  ‘If she gets to know about the decree then she is capable of starting another war. If the decree is proven to not be original then she would definitely find a way to go to Asran and make everything more complicated,’ Both Brenda and David thought. “Come on! Spill it out, both of you. We do not have all day here,” Sussan glared at David and Brenda and demanded to know what they were hiding from her. As Brenda noticed that David was not ready to start, she decided to come clean first to escape the wrath of the most powerful sorceress. She did want to live a long life for her sons and she thought that it was best for Sussan to know about the decree. “When I went to my husband’s office to find out about the forced eviction notice I received from the militants, I decided to go confront my militant husband. But then I found out that he was also involved in that law as I saw the decree on top of his desk.” Brenda stopped speaking and looked at Sussan’s face. She sat there without showing any emotion and then said, “Continue. What did the decree say?” “The decree was received directly from the council of the Asran and they plan to oust every single one of the people from the planets who are born with magical powers. Also, the people who have gained magical powers through practice after they were born, just like David here, are exempt from that law,” Brenda informed her. “Do you still have any uncertainty about the decree?” Sussan asked Brenda, ignoring David altogether. “I do have some lack of certainty but the Asran’s Royal seal on the decree is original,” Brenda told her. “That is enough then; Let us go to Asran and find the council and raise our concerns in front of them. They cannot oust us as they have no right to be involved in how a planet should treat the clans of different tribes. This was never in their hands even when the star was created and after the planets started to rotate around its axis,” Sussan declared. What David and Brenda had feared happened as Sussan turned into one of the stubborn ladies who got ready to jump into action without a proper plan.  ‘Does she even know what she's actually talking about? Going to Asran is not like crossing the border. Even that’s difficult to do now because of the war and militants but she wants to go to Asran and question the authenticity of the Royal decree to the council?’ Brenda shook her head and showed her disapproval. David reacted even more wildly as he almost started to shout without minding the open space they were currently standing in. “How are you planning to go over there? Do you think we will get one more magical stream and it will take us directly to the Asran star? Have you lost your brain and became brainless or did you somehow manage to lose your thinking power? Don't you know all the portals have been damaged and even traveling internally has become a big mess? And here you are… saying you want to go to Asran star,” David screamed at Sussan. He was having a headache looking at his wife, who had just jumped to a solution without giving the problem at hand much thought. Moreover, it had always been impossible to convince her otherwise, once she had decided to do something. Sussan stared at him angrily and puffed her cheeks because of his sudden outburst. David then realized that without food and water for almost a day his brain must have gotten fried. He had unknowingly shouted at his ferocious wife without thinking about the later consequences. “AAhh… I am so thirsty! I'm hungry! I am fainting...I am falling...” David mumbled and then acted as if he was really going to faint at any second now.  He even coughed loudly and directly fell on Sussan’s shoulder with a thud before holding her in his arms tightly, so that she would not hit him. Sussan saw his tantrums and did not lose her temper.  Instead, she took the infinite pouch and fed him some water that she collected from the flying stream. After that, she rubbed his back to let the water flow freely in his food pipe. “Thank you, dear. You save my life,” David said in a pitiful voice and kissed Sussan’s cheeks. The placed his lips touched, turned scarlet and she immediately pushed David away from her.  “Don’t you dare touch me!” Sussan said to show that she was still angry at him. “I am again having trouble breathing and I think I am going to faint once again,” David lied and tried to take advantage of Sussan again. But then this time, she became alert and moved away from him immediately. So, David’s body fell on the ground with no support and he winced in pain. “I am sorry… I am sorry… I did not know that you would fall…” Sussan dashed towards him and helped him stand up. Brenda laughed at couples bickering at first but then she started to miss her husband who was on the other side of the border.
