Chapter - 30

Sussan understood that David’s questions were not wrong but still, she could not bring herself to not do anything about the current situation. Without the military’s help, there was no way they could reach the Asran star easily. Unless they try the old traditional way... but it was not good to mention it to them right now as David would lose his cool again. Moreover, he won’t agree to that method even on a normal day as it was highly risky and the chances of reaching Asran in one piece were very minimal. Not only was it considered more dangerous than crossing the border but it might also turn out to be a near to impossible mission. Sussan went on a deep thought to try to come out with a better solution. But her brain did not work and all that was left was her feeling helpless. “Why don’t we first eat something and fill our stomach? Then we can try to talk this out with a relaxed mind and come out with a proper plan on our next actions,” David suggested to them. “Yes, I agree with David. It has been quite a tiresome adventure we had just now and I am suggesting that it is better to fill ourselves with some yummy food. Also, I am opting to get some good rest for at least two hours, so that we can give our body the needed time out.” Brenda said and looked at Sussan with expectation. Sussan was still deep in her thoughts and did not hear them at all. So, Brenda held her hands and shook them to bring her back to reality. “Don’t you think after food and rest, our minds will be able to rethink a little clearer, and then we will discuss the issues that we have in our hands one by one,” Brenda said and pulled Sussan’s hands. Brenda was happy that she could finally change the topic and relax a little around them. She did not want to face this love-hate couple's arguments any longer.  Moreover, she might just blow up her brain and start fighting with these two people, if they once again start their mind-blowing performance. Sussan finally nodded her head to indicate that she agreed with her suggestion and took out the wild fruits and berries from her infinite pouch.  Meanwhile, Brenda took out a freshly baked loaf and quite a few of the fresh homemade dishes from her backpack. This made Sussan raise her eyebrow and then she looked at Brenda questioningly while staring at the loaf in her hands. “What? I am not going to starve by eating these wild gooseberries and dried fruits. I need to eat good and healthy food to maintain my physical and mental strength which in turn would keep my spirits high for the upcoming dry days in this deserted place,” Brenda shamelessly said and then whispered in Sussan's ears,  "Also, I need to main my beauty... These dried fruits may turn me into an old lady just like the wrinkles on top of them." Sussan shook her head and gave her a strange look. Brenda then took out a knife to cut the long loaf into three pieces and shared it with Sussan and David. After noticing that Sussan was still staring at her and the food in her hands, at once she understood what Sussan wanted to hear from her as the thought hit her head. “Oops… did I get caught, didn't I? Now I might have to confess the truth to you,” Brenda mumbled and stuffed her mouth with the food in her hands.  “Cough… cough…” Sussan coughed and indicated that she did want to hear the truth. Also, she waited for Brenda to continue as she still did not eat what she gave her and only kept on looking at her. “Oh! Are you asking me how I got all this food?” Brenda asked innocently with a naughty smile on the corner of her lips and pretended as if she did not understand what Sussan was asking her before. Sussan did not respond to her again and kept on waiting for Brenda to tell her, ‘how she got that food’. Brenda smiled at her and tried to escape from telling them her hidden secret. As Sussan did not look like she would back down any time soon, she understood that she could not pretend anymore. Because of Sussan’s intense gaze, she let out a long sigh and decided to reveal the truth about the fresh foods, she could get so easily even when they were in the middle of nowhere. “Oh! Come on! You, do, know that my grandfather had left an inheritance to me and it included this cute little pack. I can use this to take anything from anywhere on this planet. But look at my innocence, all I did was take some tiny little food from my own kitchen. Anyway, I lived in that house for 15 years, so at least this much is acceptable,” Brenda confessed without having any guilt of hiding such an important matter from Sussan. Sussan just shook her head and did not say anything to her. She then ate a little bit of the berries, but all of a sudden she felt something odd about this situation. “Are you sure, your husband let you go just like that along with your son without putting up a fight with you?” Sussan asked her. Brenda could only nod her head as her mouth was full with a piece of loaf. So, Sussan asked her, “But I highly doubt it. If he really chased you away, then why does it feel like he ordered the kitchen to make all your favorites?”  Brenda looked at the food items in her hands and suddenly something sparked inside her too. But then she said in a low voice, “Maybe the kitchen made a mistake and cooked the food randomly which turned out to be my favorites.” David just smiled at them and nudged Sussan’s elbow to make her stop the staring contest and eat her food. Sussan then let out a deep breath and took a bite of the loaf. Even though Brenda had said that to Sussan, she was not convinced with herself. If it was one day then it might be fine. She had now realized that it was from the time she left her home, every day from then on she had been eating her favorite dishes. With all the hassle that was happening around her, she did not notice it until now. But after Sussan pointed it out, she too felt that all this was a little weird. From day one she had started taking the food from her home and until today, she found that all the food was to her liking and Roberts. ‘Today, he did not keep Robert’s favorite dishes,’ Brenda wondered and started the food in her hands.  She realized that when she took the food from her home a few minutes ago, she noticed that only her favorites were there and not Robert’s.  This definitely confused her a lot but she was still unsure if she should inform the couple about this. There is now a high chance that Robert’s father might have found out about their sons traveling across the border.  ‘It’s better to wait until I am sure about this before I tell Sussan. This is just my assumption and if I am wrong then it would only cause distress to her,’ Brenda thought and decided to not reveal it yet. They all ate the food in silence as the mood once again turned heavy among them. Sussan was the first one to finish as usual as she could not swallow the food as usual because she missed Peter and Elly so much. By the time all of them finished eating their food, they saw a group of people coming from the east. It was from the direction of the border, so they became alert as they were not sure if it was help or foe. “Let’s hide… We do not know who these people are and my vision and hearing power had gotten worse because of the 'Necticsand' and that entered my eyes and ears,” Brenda hastily said and started to pack the leftover food. As they thought that it was better to be safe than sorry, Sussan and David agreed to her. They helped her in clearing the area and even hiding their prints from the newcomers. Slowly they crawled away on the ground and searched for a place to hide. But before they could find a spot to hide, they heard a familiar song very close to them.
