Vanesa was not the only one affected by this feeling. Someone else was hit by it the same time that Vanesa did. The boy was just joking around with his friend when suddenly he felt as if he was about to have a heart attack. He panicked. You see he has been suffering from a genetic heart disease all his life.
His life has been a nightmare. His family especially his mom is always worried. That stresses him a lot because even something as small as a cough from him makes her jump and panic.
The doctors don't know the cause of the disease. They say it's different from regular heart attacks. Of course the boy knows this. His been trying to understand it. What kind of heart attack start fever?
Something about this feeling today feels weird. He's been okay until this moment. "Jay, are you okay buddy?" his friend Max asked. Max know he hates being called that. But at the moment he couldn't even say anything. His eyes were fixed to the entrance. He didn't know why but there was something drawing him that direction.
"Dude" said Max with panic in his voice. "Let's go, you need to sit down" Max continued. So just as Max dragged his friend into to the nearest class room Vanesa enters the school building.
Trying to put what just happened at the back of her mind she enters the building with one think in mind, finding the principal's office. As she enters. She sees students chatting, some opening their lockers. She walks through the mass looking around for what seems to be the direction to a Mr Ellenton's office. Yes the principal is related to the founder of the school.
Just as as she's about to ask for direction she sees a hallway on the right. She takes it. A few steps later she finds a door with a sign 'PRINCIPAL' on the door. She knocks and a woman who looks to be in her fourties opens. "Morning, how can I help you?" she asks Vanesa with a smile.
"Uhm, Hello. My name is Vanesa Jacobs, I'm new. I was told to come see the principal when I get to the school"
"OH yes. Of course please come in. Mr Ellenton will be here shortly. I'm Ms Davis, the principal's secretary. You can sit here and wait." She went back to her desk and started typing on her laptop.
Vanesa sat, her eyes looked around the office. There was another door on the wall at her right. It seemed like the room was divided into two. Two offices for the secretary and the principal. Ms Davis' office looked nice with a desk facing the inside door and two chairs next to the main door.
Vanesa was still looking around the office when the door opened and a man with milk chocolate skin and grey eyes and a military hair cut entered the office. "Ms Davis what's on the agenda today?" he asked with a cheery voice. Then his eyes lands on Vanesa. "Hi, young lady, are you hear to see me?" her asks with a big smile on his face but his eyes look concerned.
"Yes sir, my name Vanesa Jacobs." She didn't know what to make of him. He looked friendly but there was something familiar about. It's like she had seen him before.
"Please come into my office." she followed him into his office. The office had a black desk. One brown leather chair on the other side and two comfy red chairs on the front side. On the left side was a cabinet full of drawers, above it was a painting of the ocean and a sunset. "So Miss Jacobson..." Vanesa still busy staring at the painting when he started speaking.
It shocked her to hear him call her Jacobson. He must have read her file or something. In her family when they introduce themselves to people they use Jacobs not Jacobson. So to hear him call her by her full last name was kind of a shock.
The man seems to be addicted to smiling because he had the biggest amusement smile on his face. Then he chuckled. "I won't say much because I don't want you to be late for your first class." He opened a drawer on the right side of his desk and took out an envelope. "In hear there is a map of the school, your class schedule, book list and locker number.
You can take the book list to Mr Young, our librarian and he will help you with some of your books. The remaining books your parents will have provide them for you." He hands the envelope to her and she takes it with both hands
Vanesa thanked him but she still couldn't shake the feeling that she knew him. But she didn't understand why she felt this way. She trusted her memory. She knows she never met him. But somehow he looked familiar. As if Mr Ellenton could read her mind. He looked at her with sadness in his eyes.
"You look worried, is there something wrong?"
"Have we met before?" she decides to ask. He looks at her and his friendly smile returns. "No, you and I never met before. Your dad told me about that memory of yours." But she remembered those eyes. "You know my dad?"
"Yes I do, he is friends with my brother Luke." As he said that Vanesa's memory hits her so hard. She remembered a man with grey eyes and blond hair. Before she could gather her thoughts he continues. "I know it's very confusing. He's white and I'm black." He laughs and for the first time in a long time Vanesa smiles. "No sir I am not confused, its just that it's nice to see a familiar face on my first day at school." she replies with a smile and a little hope that things will be okay for a little while.
"Your brothers attend here too, you won't be alone. Anyway you can go to class now, go back to the main hallway, take a right. Mr Stan's Biology class is the second door on your left. Good luck." Vanesa thanked the principal and went attend her first class.
