Vanesa's POV
I was trying to steady Justin when suddenly he lost his balance and hit his knee on the ice. I panicked "Are you okay. Oh my word! Don't move." he sat himself on this ice. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't see the pain written on his face.
"Oh man." he touched his knee. "I don't think it's broken but it hurts." he added. "Wait here I'll be back." I told him as I skate away from him. I got out of the ice and took off my skates as fast as I can and went back to locker room. When I got there I took my socks out of the bag and ran back. Wore my skates and got to him.
"Okay, uhm let's try to take out the skates. It won't be a good idea to skate your way out of the ice so you'll have to wear my socks." I informed him the added "Don't worry they are clean." I tried to lighten the situation.
"Okay let's do it." his voice sounded strained. I helped him out the skates and put the socks on. They didn't cover his whole foot but that was not the goal. The goal was to make sure he doesn't slip. "Okay here comes the hard part. You have to stand up. I'll help you. So rap your arm around my neck and mine will be around you. I'll try not to drop you again."
He laughed and said between laughs "I won't lie and say I'm not skeptical." he then smiled "But something tells me that you are stronger than you look." he raised one eye brow as if to see if I agree with him
"Let's see then."
"Wait Jaz." he stopped me when I was lifting his arm. "Aren't you going to take your skates off." he looked worried.
I smiled "No don't worry I grew up on ice. We won't fall I promise." He looked at me "If you say so." I lifted his arm again and wrapped it around my neck. My upper body was bent on his left side where he hurt his knee. He used his right leg and arm to help me lift him up. When we were both standing I told him not to put weight on his knee.
We arrived outside the ice. "Put your hands on the rail " he followed my instruction and left him to sit on a nearby chair to take off my skates. After taking them off I went back to help him off his feet. "I'll have to go and get nurse Judy to check you out. She might be around, it's her day off from work today."
Nurse Judy was the owner's wife. When she's not at work she usually spends her day helping her husband at the rink. Not everyone is steady on ice she made herself our nurse on duty.
When I came back with her she asked me to bring a towel. When I came back the left side of Justin's jean were rolled up to expose his knee and was pressing her fingers on it. "It does feel broken. Tell me when the pain intensifies." she touched just below his knee and he flinched. "That's were the pain comes from." he told her.
"Okay then I have good news and bad news. For now I don't see a reason for you to go to the hospital but you have to be off your knee for a few days." she assured him. "Now I'll wrap this your knee with the towel. You'll have to keep it on until you get home. When you get home you'll have to take it off and ice where it hurts. I have to go, bye." she left.
I sat next to him questioning everything. Was this a good idea. What if the worst happened like him breaking his knee? Maybe I should just call it quits. I was still over thinking like always when he cleared his throat.
"It's not your fault." he was looking at me with reassuring eyes. "We'll have to try again next week." he gave me a smile that kind of made feel like not giving up. "Okay then." I gave him a thumbs up and a smile. "You want me to call you a cab?" I asked.
"No I have my own ride."
"You think you'll be able to drive in your state?"
"Yes, its a bike." he smiled.
"Really? I love bikes, can I see it." I asked with excitement. I've always wanted a bike but since I'm underage I can't own or drive one.
"Yeah sure, it's right in front, let's go." He got up.
"Forst I have to take these to the lockers." I picked the skates up. "Wear you shoes, if you can't I'll help you when I get back." I hoped my way to the locker room and placed the skates in my locker and took my bag. By the time I got to Justin he was already on his feet waiting for me.
"You are one stubborn guy." I complained. "Why didn't you wait for me to help you?"
"I've had worse injuries. Anyway the ointment the lady gave me it kind of numbed my pain." he replied with a smile. "Let's go." He proceeded to walk. He was limping a little bit but it was not bad so I let him walk on his own.
When we go outside we turned to the parking lot and when I saw his bike I got goosebumps. I wanted to hop on it and drive away but I knew that would be a bad idea because I didn't know how. I knew how to drive a car my dad taught me but I've never been on a motorbike before.
To be honest with you I didn't know the make or modern. I just admired the beast. It was red in color the handle bars wear and the sitting part were both black black.
"Can I touch it please?" I asked excitedly. He laughed and said "Of course. Go ahead. You can even hop in it." he leaned on the car next to us.
I got on the bike and held both handles. I could see myself riding it around town. "I wish I had my license right now." I got off it and faced him. He had a grin on his face. "Thank you for today even though it ended with you getting hurt." I smiled back to him.
"Anytime." that one word he said sounded like it had a deeper meaning. "Why did you call me Jaz?" I asked curiously. "It suits you and it is short for Jersey." I rolled my eyes.
"Then I should give a nickname too." I looked at him and thought for a perfect nickname for him. Then I had a light bulb moment. "That sounds right."
"What sounds right?" he asked. "I'm gonna call you Jus." I smiled at him. "Jus? Really? It makes no sense." he complained.
"It feels right to me." And it did feel right. "I'm not surprised." he told me.
So after he left I called a cab. Justin wanted to drive me home but I told him my mom was picking me up. Then he wanted to wait with but I refused and chased him aways. I didn't want to find out where I live or who my family was.
