I hummed happily as I stuffed a few things into a small overnight bag. The last time I felt this much excitement was when I was twelve and my mother and I were going away to a spa for a girl's weekend.
Back then, I knew it was to get away from home because Dad messed up with his bookies again and Mom wanted to ensure I was safe. But that didn't damper my anticipation. Just as knowing that I might get my heart broken didn't stop me from being thrilled about spending time with Julian.
A sliver of doubt pushed through my eagerness to get away from home. I thought about calling Julian to tell him I changed my mind about our trip. Getting any closer to him would complicate my life further. I dug myself deeper into an emotional sh*tstorm with every minute I spent with him.
