How it all started?
Standing by her window and looking down at the maids who were bustling about the palace castle, Dahlia rolled her eyes. The maids were moving about quickly with hands that were heavily ladened with linens and decoration materials.
Her stepfather was at it again. He was hosting another one of his lavish parties and Dahlia was so not looking forward to it. She always wished that she could sit out for all of these parties, but her stepfather wouldn't hear of such.
He always wanted her to be there so that he could sell her off to any alpha that was interested in her. None has been interested so far because she has been doing a good job of hiding and keeping herself away from prying eyes. Not only that, she was never well-dressed and she was not loved by her father, so no alpha would want her.
It was one thing to be a werewolf princess and another to be a werewolf princess who has no wolf. Living in the palace was already a stormy affair, but she would pick it over being sold off to any of these alphas any day.
Sure, her step-sister's were mean, her stepbrothers did not care whether she lived or not and her stepfather and stepmother's wanted to get rid of her, but it was better. Way better than being sold to an alpha she knew nothing about.
Most of these alphas already have a harem, but would still add more when they saw another woman they wanted. They were equally evil as her father and proud. She did not want to live under any man who would control her life, like her stepfather had been doing since she first met him when she was five.
Her life was also miserable when her mother was still alive. Dahlia's mother had picked her love for the alpha over Dahlia and would make her do everything her stepfather wanted.
Dahlia turned away from the window when she heard her door open. It was her maid and her only friend, Elizabeth.
“He is hosting one of his parties again?”. It was a statement from Dahlia and not a question.
Elizabeth licked her lips before nodding with a sad look in her eye. She knew that the more Dahlia was forced to attend these parties, the more her chances of being sold to one of these alphas increased.
“What is it about this time?" Dahlia knew that her stepfather needed no reason to host a party, but he had been having different reasons for hosting them recently.
“No one knows for sure,” Elizabeth replied as she went to sit on Dahlia's bed to make herself comfortable.
“Hmm”. Dahlia hummed before turning to face the window," is there anything you need?” she knew for sure that there was another reason why Elizabeth was in her room after leaving exactly five minutes ago to run some important errands.
Elizabeth wiggled her fingers nervously before licking her lips again. She took in a deep breath, “your stepfather needs you in his throne room”.
Dahlia froze. She hated the fact that she never got her wolf like every other werewolves, but another thing she hated so much was being in her stepfather's presence. He made her nervous, he made her stomach churn, it made her feel like killing him, it made her remember everything this man has done and is still going to do to her, it made her hate for him increase.
Dahlia turned to look at Elizabeth, who in turn gave her an apologetic look.
“Do you know why he wants me in his throne room?” Dahlia asked, trying not to sound scared.
“He sent Derek”.
Dahlia nodded. Derek was her stepfather's Beta, and he did all the work, including the dirty ones for him. She hated Derek almost the same way she hated her stepfather. They had the same character, that was why they moved together.
Dahlia gathered her skirt in her hands before moving away from the window in the direction of her door. Even if she did not want to, she had to go and answer her stepfather. If she was late for even a second, he would get angry and make her scrub the kitchen floor.
Princess or not, she was never treated like one. Dahlia's mother was not a queen when she gave birth to her, and neither was her father a king. Dahlia only became a princess when her mother got married to her stepfather, Cameron. But with the treatment she got from her stepfamily, she never considered herself to be a princess. She would give anything to be a regular girl on the streets of golden moon pack.
As Dahlia hurried over to her stepfather's throne room with a racing heart, she held back herself from snapping at the maids who purposely stepped in her way or hit her. It was a regular treatment from them, but one could never get used to such.
Dahlia could do nothing about it, as no one would stand up for her. If she decided to fight with them, they would beat her to the ground, even if they were just regular Omega maids. At the age of twenty-one, she was yet to meet her wolf, which was something usual as everyone gets their wolf at eighteen.
The guard at the door gave her a once over before throwing the door open for her to pass through. There were some days that he slapped her hard on the bottom, she was glad that today was not one of those days.
Dahlia halted when she saw the people in her stepfather's throne room. Her stepfather, stepsisters, stepbrother, her stepmother's, Beta and the council of elders. They looked like they were having a meeting. All of them stopped and turned to look at her when they heard her come in.
Her palms became sweaty and the grip of her skirt tightened. It was never a good thing to appear before the council of elders, as they were like vultures always waiting to devour her and vampires always waiting to suck her blood dry.
“Hurry over. You kept us all waiting”.
Dahlia's eyes snapped to her stepfather at his kind words, but the creepy smile he had on made her scared. When she hesitated, the smile turned into a deadly one and Dahlia raised her feet and began to walk. She trudged toward them with different thoughts about why she was in this meeting swirling in her head.
“Greetings alpha king Cameron” Dahlia curtsied when she got to the front of her stepfather's throne. She had been told not to call him father. Ever. She would vomit if she had to call him father anyway, so she was okay with addressing him like every other person.
“Rise” Cameron waved a hand at her in a careless gesture before quickly moving onto the main reason why he called her, “you already know that we are hosting a party”
You are hosting a party, not me, she wanted to correct him but kept quiet and kept her gaze on the floor. Never look the royal family in the eyes. Her siblings could look each in the eyes, but not her. She was not a part of them.
“This party is to find an alpha that would be kind enough to marry you. You still can't get your wolf at twenty-one. You are of no use to this kingdom except for giving you out to an alpha. You have to pay us back for feeding, clothing and housing you by marrying a good alpha”
“ That's if any of the alphas would want something like you” Dahlia's stepsister Mariam, who was two years older than she was, said with a smirk.
