Four: Dull

1200 Words
Another too peaceful morning Ivet had woken up to, not that she should complain considering she would probably be out already stealing for the day if this woman hadn’t taken her in, if that made sense at all. But she was complaining either way because why was it so dull and uneventful here. She didn’t see the witch or her friend anywhere—first assumption, they had slept in but that was never, ever going to happen. Even though she highly doubted that situation happening she sure as hell believed it. For once she wasn’t greeted with heavy work first thing in the morning, she did have a long peaceful breakfast and lazily just did nothing. It was all good to be true actually because the peace was sort of getting annoying, so Ivet did the next best thing. Stomped her feet against the floor as hard as she could back and forth right in front of Liann’s room. She thought it was a more effective way to wake her up or at least get a complaint. Ten minutes on the same mission still had unsuccessful outcomes and her feet were being to hurt. Giving the mission up she went back downstairs—just maybe reading would be a great way to pass time. Could she read—a bit, a skill she picked up or stole. Ivet stood arms crossed staring at the shelves of books trying to find a worthy opponent. Books weren’t what caught her attention to say the honest fact. The door that had the sign ‘staff only’ did, it was right beside the stairs—she had never been in there but she was definitely curious. And she was a staff—the boss wasn’t around either, such great news. Placing the book back where she picked it up, Ivet walked over to the door not a moment to waste she gripped the door knob. Curious did kill the cat in all honesty. Being pulled with the closing door she just happened to open for a few seconds, Ivet looked up just right into her eyes that held a not so pleasant glare. Similarly as Ivet’s hand was on the door knob, Liann’s hand was on the door keeping it shut—did she mention Liann had one hand on it yet even if she tried pulling with two hands it was a waste. And first question, how in the universe did this woman know when and why to show up. Because she was opening the door to the basement, what could possibly be hiding in there. “Where are you going?” questioned Liann glaring at Ivet even more as the girl still tried opening the door, it was hopeless. Trying to not freak out she kept a nonchalant stare—it would have been a glare but Liann’s glare made her internally shake, she had no strength to challenge her. “Down there to you know get supplies or something.” she mumbled diverting her gaze somewhere else that was not—definitely not—Liann’s face. “Why do you think supplies are down there and what ‘supplies’?” Liann questioned air quoting the word supplies. Her glare had not turn softened at all rather it got more intense as she walked over, not breaking eye contact. Lying was be saying the girl took a slow step each time Liann took a step closer. She ran as soon as Liann thought of walking towards her—she was not risking anything. “Fine I just wanted to check it out!” she confessed as soon she was far, very far from the door and the woman. “It doesn’t concern you, it is staff only.” stated the woman still managing to glare at Ivet. At this point her glare wasn’t just intimidating, she looked as though she was trying to study her—why and what she found curious about a locked door. As though the thought of a locked door and no permission to enter did not entice any fool—or thief. “I am a member of staff! You hired me, didn’t you?” A strong back up point, Liann did admit with a light hum. “Right. . .” walking over to her desk she grabed a piece of paper and pen, it kinda left Ivet puzzled—curious about what she was writing. Untill Liann flipped over the piece of paper that said n writes ‘Staff only but NOT IVET.’ Pinning it against the door she walked past Ivet who was in disbelief, all this happened right in front of her. “Are you kidding me!” she hissed turning to face the woman wearing her hat. A simple shrug was all she got in return, not even a side glance or glare—she would have loved a glare at least but a shrug. “Hey Liann where are you going?” Ivet asked stopping the woman from walking out. “Here and there.” was all Liann gave out—the most she had actually ever give out on her whereabouts. “To a date?” It was the first time she had ever heard the woman—Liann—laugh, maybe she would have appreciated it if it did not sound like she was mocking her. The louder it got she definitely knew she was being mocked. “It isn’t funny, you’re a f—” the sound of the door closing stopped her in mid sentence about to curse her out. “The disrespect!” she groaned running her fingers through her hair. Looking around she sighed, now what was she supposed to do around this boring day that barely got any customers. She did find something to do apart from continuously complaining about the slow day and her boss, she continuously kept feeding her stomach with the food she did not work so hard to steal—or buy. Untill it was around 7 pm and no other than the she devil walked through the door, her precious hat in hand. Standing on her feet she smiled brightly. “How are we Liann?” Being ignored as usual Liann placed her hat down then went upstairs, not alone though as Ivet followed her. “How was your day?” Still no response “I missed you!” blurting the words out she knew they were a lie—but she did miss her in some sort of way. With a loud laugh, Liann shook her head then slammed the door right before Ivet could enter her room. Again, the disrespect. To herself Ivet was trying her best at this point, the woman wasn’t budging. “Hey you woman!” No response—not even when she violently knocked on her door serval times. “Fine! goodnight.” the girl shouted then wait a minute or two until she heard a faint. “You too.” Yes, she had her ear against the door—and with the lack of fading footsteps Liann didn’t hear after goodnight—she mumbled back hoping she would leave. And she did.
