April 2020, Charleston, SCThe door opens sending a sliver of light across the dark study, illuminating Leanne"s face as she sits immersed in the computer. She rereads her novel"s final sentence—Nyla duplicating Melissa Gowan"s action and words one-hundred-ninety-two years ago. “Mommy, you finished?” Leanne peers at her daughter"s small figure in the door frame and throws her a smile. Her child, so intuitive for her five years, smiles back. “Yes, sweetie; I"m finished.” Ariel takes her hand, and Leanne realizes she"d been with Adam only minutes ago, but had seen her type the last word of her novel.
