“Wyatt, what a nice surprise!” Esmeralda cried, jumping up to hug her son. “Is your father here?” “I’m sorry mother, he is with my uncles.” Wyatt replied dismissively. Esmeralda had come to recognise that this meant something was on his mind. “Are they ok?” Amelia asked. He now had the attention of all of his aunts. “They’re…fine.” He answered looking around to avoid making eye contact. “Wyatt?” Esmeralda demanded. “I don’t know, he is still there. He hasn’t got back to us yet.” Wyatt shrugged. “Was it serious?” Laura asked. “He must have gone there for a reason.” “Not necessarily, he often checks in on them.” Wyatt shrugged. “I think he misses Uncle Todd, Uncle Liam and Uncle James. They were very close for a long time.” “I think we forget that sometimes.” Amelia smiled. “We are all missing our mates so much that we forget they were brothers first.” “You do forget that. I guess its normal but still, their relationship is important too.” Wyatt shrugged. The women all sat and stared at him. “Right, emotions and stuff. Ok, here goes.” Wyatt said clearing his voice. “My uncles love you dearly and as their mate you are extremely important but so is their brotherly relationship.” The women continued to stare at him. Wyatt scrunched up his face as if he were in pain. “You’re making my head hurt. Where is Mirabelle?” “With Tallulah and Mack in the training yard.” Matilda replied. “Right then, I’ll leave you to it.” Wyatt said as he walked away. “He’s a funny fellow isn’t he?” Laura laughed. “I find his honesty refreshing.” “That’s one way of putting it.” Esmeralda murmured. “He has a lot of responsibility on those little shoulders. I was thinking, maybe we need to bring his dog into this world. Remember how she always kept him calm?” Miranda mused. “We should have done it years ago.” Esmeralda agreed. “I believe Will asked if he wanted him at the castle, but he said no. He was worried about the dog being hurt.” Laura mentioned. “I remember Lachlan and Liam talking about it before Francesca’s dog was given to the local town.” “Ohh, they love Wyatt the dog. Apparently, he guards the local kids and no one can get near them. They just let him wander and he sleeps at a different house each night, keeping the children company. They have actually requested a female.” Miranda laughed. “That may be something James or Jonathan can organise.” Matilda smiled. Amelia looked up to see the four children walking towards them. “Wyatt, we were just talking. Can you bring Dog to live with us here? I’m sure the kids would love her.” Esmeralda asked. Wyatts eyes lit up in the first show of real emotion they had see out of him in the last four or five years. “I’ll do it now and maybe I can look at getting a couple more.” Wyatt walked away to open a portal and suddenly Dog came racing through. He raced from person to person excitedly. James and Jonathan had been looking after her but she clearly missed having children around. “What’s this?” Robert asked as he walked towards them. “Dogs come here to live Grandfather!” Mack cried happily. “I can see that.” Robert smiled. “Is that ok Father?” Amelia asked. “Ooohh no, there’s no way I’m going to be the one to say no.” Robert laughed. “Grandfather, can we get another dog to keep her company?” Mack begged. “Of course you can, there’s plenty of room. Get as many as you like.” Robert laughed. “Where’s Wyatt?” Robert asked, looking around. “He asked about getting another dog and then he disappeared.” Amelia laughed. “Oh boy.” Esmerelda sighed. “He’s a very literal child that one.” Robert laughed. I wonder how many he managed to find…” “I’m sorry.” Esmeralda began, shaking her head. “Em, we have plenty of room here and honestly, how many Maremma’s could he actually find…” Roberts jaw dropped and he stared at a spot behind them. “He’s back isn’t he?” Esmeralda asked without turning around. Laura began laughing hysterically. “Yep.” “How many?” Esmeralda cringed. “I would say maybe twenty. Hard to tell.” One of the dogs walked over to where they sat with the babies and younger children on the grass. She watched them for a moment and then sat down next to the babies. “She’s guarding them. That is so adorable.” Miranda sighed. Esmeralda looked up as Wyatt walked towards them. “How many did you get?” She asked her son. “Thirty six. They are rescues. I left the people caring for them some money and a note.” Wyatt informed them. Well, that was nice of you.” Laura smiled. Wyatt looked at her like she was crazy. “Well I didn’t want them to worry.” He shrugged. “I will take six to the village now.” He said as he opened another portal and encouraged six of the dogs to go through. “Do you think it’s being the Magician that has him so wound up?” Laura asked. “He was always highly strung.” Esmeralda shrugged. “It’s just him.” “Mack seems to have relaxed a little since Tallulah was born.” Laura observed as she watched Mack, Tallulah and Mirabelle playing with the dogs. “You clearly don’t watch him either train or in military school.” Robert laughed. “The child is sharp as a tack and shrewd. He is more relaxed since Tallulah was born, yes, but this is why he doesn’t like her hanging around while he trains. He can’t afford to be relaxed; he needs to keep her safe.” “Well, he doesn’t need to keep them safe now.” Laura laughed. “He is as committed as Wyatt, he just has a little of James and Tilly in him and has a more playful side. But when he trains, he is focused and determined. I wish I knew what went on in his head sometimes.” Robert sighed. “Don’t we all.” Matilda agreed. “Mother?” Mack called out as he walked towards them. “I think I would like to train you all in basic weaponry. I believe it would be a good idea for you to learn to defend yourselves.” “I actually think for all those not currently pregnant that is a splendid idea.” Robert agreed. “You too grandfather.” Mack continued. “You are getting lazy.” Robert winced as the women laughed hysterically.
