CHAPTER 1
The Sinclair mansion, A notorious building with a hidden, dark past covered up and or destroyed from the records. No one alive would believe the horror that went on there and the lives lost. The man who owned it was Ben Frazier; he was silent and never talked to anyone. Most presumed he didn't have a family as no family pictures were up in the mansion, nor did he mention them. So the day he decided to join a house-sharing program for teens who were finishing high school, people were confused.  Ben decided to house Emilia, an 18-year-old girl close to graduating; he provided her with a nice large room on the opposite end of the hall from his room with a private bathroom. On the day of her arrival, he gave her three rules: "Don't go into the attic or basement, never leave your room pat midnight and DON'T. GET. CURIOUS." Those were the first and final words he ever told her before he was found dead at the top of the basement stairs with his face ripped apart, lying in his own pool of blood. The investigators chalked it up to an animal attack and left Emilia alone in the old creaking, dusty home, and it's true form showing its unloved and terrible state.  When Ben's family did learn of his death, it only sent a small ripple of shock through everyone. Chasity Frazier, Ben's sister, was willed the house, and she gave it to her 19-year-old son Jackson whom she was mostly trying to get rid of. It didn't take them long to pack and arrange everything of his to be sent there. A week or so later, he arrived in the small town of Panchest and saw the mansion.  His mother drove past the gates and around to the front of the house, next to the stairs. "well, here you are! You're gonna love it here. Everything is paid for, and you have a nice place to finish your online classes," Chasity says. She had blonde hair and green eyes; her face was clear and rounded out nicely. "...This place is a dump. Why couldn't you just let me go with dad if you are trying to get rid of me anyway" Jackson huffed. His eyes were green like his mom, but he had brown and had slight curly messy hair. His looks mostly resembled his dad as his jawline was sharp, and he had nice cheekbones. "We talked about this; I'm not sending you there...most teenagers would be thrilled to have a mansion at 19," Chasity replied.  "oh yeah, sure, but I'm hundreds of miles away from friends and family, this town is tiny and cold, plus I know no one here! I do not see what's good about living in this big mansion alone, not mention how creepy it looks," He stated. Before his mother could reply, there was a knock at Jackson's window, and they both jumped from fright. He looked to the window and saw a dark-skinned female with black curly hair staring at them. he slowly rolled the window down "...Uhm, Hi," he says. "Hey, Sorry I didn't mean to scare you guys but Uhm, who are you?" The female asked.  "I'm Chasity deary; this is my son Jackson. We are related to the man who owned the house," She replied. The female was a bit surprised by that "oh wow, he does have a family. I'm Emilia. I live in the Mansion," Emilia explained. Jackson's eyes widened in shock, and his mother giggled, leaning over to him "well, look at that; there is one good thing," she whispered before getting out and walking around to Emilia and hugged her. Jackson shook his head at his mother's comment and got out also as the two talked. He opened up the back seat and took out a black book bag and a large red suitcase.  He then looked to His mother and Emilia as they kept talking, "So are you in college?" "No, I'm a senior right now, but I will go to college; my high school and the college are on the same campus ground, just different sides," Emilia explained.  "How lovely, Jackson, you should sign up for the college, you can have all your courses transferred to the school, and you'll a friend at the school," Chasity said, looking at her son. He looked to Emilia, who just gave an awkward smile ''Uhm sure..." he just shrugged. looking at the time, Chasity gasped, "would you look at that? I have to go." she kissed her soon forehead before going back around to the driver's side. "I'll check on you soon, be good and take care of yourself," She told him. "yeah yeah, whatever," he rolled his eyes.  "Take care of him for me, Emilia."  "I'm not a kid, mom!" Jackson huffed annoyed "Will do, Miss Frazier," Emilia giggled some. Chasity then got back into the car, closed the door, took a deep breath, and looked over at the mansion, frowning before looking at the wheel. "I'm sorry.." she whispered to herself before driving off, leaving the two teens alone. "...Do you want me to help  you with your stuff?" Emilia asked to break the silence. "Oh no, it's okay, but can you direct me to a room?" he asked. Nodding, Emilia lead him inside.  The Mansion was really dusty, the hardwood floors creaked every few steps and the wall paint was chipped and dirty. the painting that tried to cover up the look was either ripped or covered in dusty. "So, were you close to my uncle? I never actually got to meet him. I knew my mom had a brother, but that was about it" "Unfortunately no, he was reticent, and I only was here for a week before his death." She says, "He only spoke to me once, and that was to tell me the rules," She added.  "Rules? what rules?" Jackson asked curiously Stopping at the edge of the stairs and looked at him, "Don't go into the attic or basement, never leave your room past midnight and no matter what...Don't get curious," she says, holding up three fingers. She then turned, walking up the long steps to the second floor. Jackson had to admit that was a bit creepy sounding, but he couldn't believe it. "Are you trying to scare me? Cause I don't scare easily," He says, still following her.  "I'm not; this house is creepy, and you'll find that out tonight, But I would prefer if you didn't do anything crazy; I can't have someone else dying while I'm here" stopping in front of a door she pointed to it. "take this room, it's next to mines, and it has a private bathroom."  looking down, he noticed a line of salt in front of the door and raised a brow "is this for real?" He asked her Emilia just shrugged. "Welcome to Sinclair Mansion," she smiled and turned into her room, leaving him a bit confused and slightly worried. Stepping over the line, he walked in, closing the door. Jackson set his suitcase on the bed along with his bag, and dust came up, making him cough some. "Gross," he says. He looked around the room; it was pretty nice the bed was a king-size he had a lamp attached to the wall over the nightstand. Across from the bed stood a big dresser that looked like it needed to be a wash. To the left of it was a door which he presumed to be the bathroom. A small desk was by the window, which had bars over it so one could lean out of it.  The only real thing lacking to him was a TV, but he could deal with that later. Opening his bag, he began to unpack, taking his clothes to the dresser, he pulled the top drawer open, and a spider jumped out at him; it made him scream and drop his clothes as he quickly killed it. Jackson wasn't usually like this; He blamed Emilia for getting him rather anxious. Just picking up his clothes, he saw some under the dresser and reached under, picking up a locket.  It was old, but one could tell it was real gold; opening it up, it showed a black and white picture of a young girl and her mother. The two seemed to be happy, a small engraving on the inside of it also: 'To Emily, my Shining star' Humming Jackson set his clothes in the dresser top drawer and looked at the locket more. He wondered if the person who lost the locket was sad about it and which one was Emily. Closing it for now, he stuffed it into his pocket and finished getting his stuff put away. After an hour, he was done; he heard a soft knock on the door, and then it opened to show Emilia, "are you settled in?" She asked  "Yeah, tomorrow though, I am giving this room a nice deep cleaning. A had a spider attack me," He stated. she tilted her head. "Is that why I heard a scream?" she asked, making him blush from embarrassment. "T-that wasn't mean it was...the mansion! Yeah, it makes noises all the time. It's what old things do," He says awkwardly. Emilia obviously didn't believe him but said nothing. "Sure, that works. Anyways I was going out to get burgers, would you like to come? My treat."  "Yeah, thanks. I'm starving" He grabbed his jacket and walked out the room, closing the door. The two went down the stairs and exited the house together. They had to walk since Emilia didn't have a car and wouldn't get there till the next day. "So have you always lived here?" Jackson asked her.  "Yes, born and raised. It's a nice little town, but after I do a year of college, I'm hoping to switch to somewhere else; I don't wanna be stuck here forever," she answered.  "what do you want to major in?" He asked  "Law"  "Hey, me too" He smiled some, "Really? why?" Emilia asked. "I dunno, but I want to do it specifically for child custody cases and things like that. I feel like it's more rewarding," he shrugged. " I want to be an Attorney; My mom was put in prison for a crime she didn't commit and committed suicide a year later only for it to be found she was innocent 2 years later." She says.  Jackson hadn't expected her reason to be so personal. "I'm sorry about your mom; what about your dad?" "I never met him. I got placed into foster care at 10 and just been waiting to graduate," She responded.  He nodded and was about to say something until he bumped into a homeless guy "oh, sorry, I-" he was cut off by the man grabbing him. The man gasped, "You can't be here! you must go!" he stated, "I-I'm sorry?" Jackson was confused. "It's a trap! You must leave the mansion; You can't save what has been dammed!" he exclaimed. Jackson was perplexed and creeped out. He pulled himself away from the man "S-sorry sir," He said and took Emilia's hand, and ran down the street to get away from the dude.  Once he was sure they were a far enough distance, he sighed. "Jeez, this place is freaking creepy! who was the crazy guy?" Jackson asked her, "Mr. Albert, He always screaming random things." Emilia says, not bothered by it. "But how did he know I lived in the mansion now?" "Who knows, but he could have walked by earlier" Jackson nods, thinking that was a logical possibility and looked down, noticing he was still holding her hand. Quickly he let go. "Sorry about that"  "No worries, at least you dragged us the right way," Emilia says and pointed to a small run-down looking diner. Crossing the street, they went in, and a little bell by the door rang. "welcome to Burger palace! Take a seat anywhere," a waiter yelled from across the room. The two sat at the table close to the door across from each other. "So I have to ask, about the three rules my uncle told you, is there something going on around the house?" Jackson questioned "Yes, but rule number three is not to get curious, so I don't know what it is, and personally, I rather not think about it." she tells him, "How do you sleep?" "with very loud headphones," she answered honestly. He clearly didn't like the way that sounded nor what it implied. He said no more, and a waiter came over and took their order. Jackson wasn't expecting much out the food here but definitely misjudged the place as he ended up like the burger. Emilia watch him eat two and even take one to go before they left. Walking back, he burped, making Emilia roll her eyes. "I cannot believe you ate two whole burgers; if you eat that tonight I'm gonna barf for you," she said.  He laughed. "It was delicious, I was surprised, plus I told you I was starving," He reminded. As they got back to the mansion, they entered the gates, and as it was already dark, the house looked more terrifying for sure. "...can you tell me what to expect tonight?" "if I did would you believe me?" she asked I'm as she walked inside. Thinking about it, he sighed, "probably not, but I'll be mentally prepared for it." Jackson replied as they went up the steps. "Then just mentally prepare for everything" She chuckled.  Jackson frowned as he stopped at his door. "If anything happens to make sure, lock your door. You'll be fine. I'll see you in the morning. Try to have a good night," She says and goes into her room. He stood there until he heard the click of her door locking. "This is seriously not funny anymore," he said to himself. He entered his room and closed it. He hesitantly locked the door, just deciding to play along but not because he believed her or anything. Jackson took off his jacket and got some clothes and entered the bathroom. It was way clearer than the rest of the room which he was grateful for. Getting undressed, he turned on the shower getting the water nice and hot before he stepped in. Jackson washed himself off and got himself clean, humming a little tune.  After about 15 minutes, he stepped out and wrapped a towel around his waist; he was built. He had abs and muscles but nothing worth bragging about. Looking into the steam-filled mirror, he paused. He couldn't really see his blurred out reflected but seemed to be another small figure on the left. Short brown hair, and it was facing backward, and He didn't know what to do. Slowly, he put his hand to the mirror and quickly wiped the steam, but the figure disappeared. looking to his side, he saw nothing, and he let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding. 'It was nothing, just your imagination,' He thought to himself and got dressed and exited the bathroom.  Jackson knew he definitely needed sleep if he saw things; he claimed into the bed and laid down. He was not going to let anything get to him. He was an over-thinker and wasn't going to let his head win this time. "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep," he mumbled to himself repeatedly until he did, indeed, fall asleep.
