EVE (2)

1870 Words
As I looked around, I realized nearly everyone was paired off already. I immediately sought out Luca. I spotted him near the front, facing his father. By his posture I could tell that he too, was furious. However, I noticed that it appeared as though they were mind-linking each other. A silent battle of wills had ensued, and I can only imagine that Luc isn’t too thrilled about his little brother being dragged to the  cells. I honestly can’t wait until I’m in charge. Luca and I both agree that the barbaric method of trips to the cell and subsequent torture are medieval, and should solely by reserved to only true enemies and traitors. Harvey was neither, just a stupid kid still. Being in the cells changes a person.. He doesn’t deserve that.  I quickly cleared my mind, walking towards my best friend and placing a firm hand on his should, snapping him from his trance.   “Let’s go Luca. You and I both know they won’t budge. The quicker we find Eve, the faster we get Harvey the hell out of there.”  He nodded stiffly, giving one last glare towards his parents.  We began searching the remaining unpaired wolves. My good friend and future Gamma, Rex, spotted us and joined up. The future Delta, Mark, also appeared almost instantly with Joshua in tow. Now to find our  6th.   “Looks like we’re  stuck with you guys, since all my friends ditched me.”  A nasally, high-pitched voice sounded from behind me. I knew instantly just by the smell who it was, inwardly cursing my dark cloud of s**t luck.   Naturally. Felix grumbled.  None other than Sophia Descora suddenly stood beside me, no doubt side-eyeing me to gauge my response. I inwardly groaned, but decided to play nice for the sake of moving this along.  “Pleasure to have ya, Sophia. Let’s go gear up and reconvene at the pine tree near the main door in 20 minutes. Hurry.”     Darci’s POV  It’s going to be semi-difficult to utilize my new ability with whoever my team members are being around. I confided to Vyra.  We shouldn’t have to use that one again unless we sense her very near. Her prints stopped at the log. Whoever took her must have carried her after that. Her idea actually makes sense.  That would explain why they just disappeared.. But why can’t I track the prints of the person who took her? I questioned.  She sighed audibly. I’m still learning all of this too. We seriously have to start studying that book. There could be a million different reasons for why you could track Eve, and not the rogue.   You're right, Vy. It just seems like one after another something keeps happening that is taking my attention away from learning our power.   Speaking of, it looks like you’re packing a little too much. She snickers.  Snapping out of my head, I look down and realize that speaking with my wolf put me on autopilot, my bag was overflowing with random supplies. I hate that about talking with Vyra. Your wolf’s soul and your own are like two intricate strings that frame the ladder of DNA. You remember from science, the twisty red and blue ladder thing? That is precisely what it’s like. One cannot function correctly without the other. Our souls are our own, yet intertwined and melded into one at the same time.    I don’t know if it’s the same for everyone  or not, but there’s two ways her and I communicate. The first, is what I assume is the normal way. Unless I have her shut out, she speaks when she pleases and I can hear her voice in my head when carrying on with any normal task.   The second is a little more complex. When we get into deep conversation, my body goes into auto-mode repeating the same action over continuously until I come to. During that time, I revert into my own mind and am sitting face to face with my wolf. Telepathically speaking while sitting somewhere in a meadow together. It is always dark there, but comforting as millions of stars sparkle above us in a black and blue sky. Tall, wispy blades of grass sway gently around us in the warm air, the  crickets and toads quietly sounding off in the distance by running water.  It is the quiet paradise we have created for ourselves to be surrounded by when we need to find solace within. A true heaven.  I quickly re-pack my belongings, enough to last a few days. Running down the stairs and out the door, I see my father screaming at my brother Harvey.   Good. He deserves to be reprimanded. Vyra snorts.  Agreed.  “This is YOUR fault!” Dad  screamed.  Harvey lowered his head, eyes cast to the ground.  “I know sir, I am so sorry.” He whispered.  “You will be.” Was all our father  said before turning away from his son to face the Alpha.   “Let him sit in the dungeon until his sister is found. Maybe he will understand what she is probably going through at this very moment.”  I couldn’t believe my ears. The dungeons?! None of the Delta kids  had ever been ordered  to stay in the cells for punishment before, we were all relatively well-behaved. The way this pack handles reprimands inside their own pack is atrocious. I growled quietly, but my mother’s eyes snapped up to meet mine immediately. She had a pained, pleading look on her fact, almost as if she was telling me to keep my mouth shut for once, and just find my sister.   Reluctantly, I obliged. I immediately found Maria, the two of us make an excellent duo. Maria is highly in-tune with her surroundings. She hears even the quietest of whispers, the smallest change in the direction of the wind. I’ve always been keen to the sense of feel. Every vibration in the ground echoes through my skin, always leading me down the correct path. Maria being an Alpha, and I the sacred Moonchild, our abilities were dramatically heightened all around.  We paired up with Jillian and Maxis, two girls we got along with through school as they were 17 and 18, respectively – Just like Maria and I, 1 year apart as Maria turns 19 soon. Jill and Max have been training with the warriors since they could walk, all of their parents were also warriors.   2/6 left to go, then we are getting the hell out of here. I can feel my mate’s eye burning holes through the side of my head and I can’t afford to get distracted.  Did you just refer to him as mate? Vyra teased.  Vyra, not now! I quickly blocked her out. There is no time for her games.  I smiled as I saw 2 boys that were a couple years ahead in school heading in our direction. Nate is very athletic, and Alec is highly intellectual. Perfect additions to the teams.  “I’ll give everyone 15 minutes to grab your gear and meet me by the garden on the corner of the East border.” I spoke authoritatively. Everyone nodded and scurried off.  Everyone returned quickly and we set off, continuing East. I was glad they made it back before Ezra came back, I didn’t want to have to say goodbye again. I felt a painful tugging in my chest at the mere thought. Damn him.   We quickly caught the fading scent of rogue, the smell being far more pungent than my sisters. We continued following the scent for over 4 hours. Night had fallen, but none of us wanted to stop and lose the scent. We ran parallel to the town line on our far left until we were far past familiar territory.   “You know guys, I don’t think this will get us very far. Everyone is out patrolling the East and South borders. What if they didn’t go that way?” Alec links us all while in our wolf forms.  “This was the direction she was last seen, dumbass.” Nate quickly retorts.  I felt something ring inside of me, like an invisible whistle blowing in my ears when Alec said this. I got the nagging feeling he was right, though I didn’t know why.   “Maybe you have a point, Alec. If I was kidnapping someone, I definitely wouldn’t head the same direction the entire time. But if not this way, where?” I pondered.  “I’ve studied the geography of our land for yea-”  “Of course you have!” Nate cuts Alec off, snickering.  Alec’s wolf, Vonsai, huffed in anger.  “Look, this rogue obviously wasn’t going to just grab some random little girl one day because he felt like it. He probably did it for someone else. We’ve been heading East for hours and have gone into human forest territory. We need to turn around. South and North are unclaimed. Blue Brook pack is West. Half the teams are already searching South, so let’s head north.” He spoke very matter-of-fact.   “I don’t know if you’re right or not, but I definitely don’t think any rogue would head this far East.” Jillian chimed in.  “Alright then, is everyone in favor of switching tactics and heading back to our borders, and then North?” I asked.  “I think that’s up to you, future Luna.” Maximus responded.  “Fine, let’s do it.” I said.  Our pack turned around and kicked into high gear, heading back towards our border, but adjusting our direction slightly right, so we’d be heading up the Northeast border.   After another few hours, we’d reached near our borders and began heading straight to the North. It was nearly 3 in the morning, but we pushed on until the unsettling smell of rogue was suddenly choking all of us. We started to slowly scan the area, each of our team members shifting back to our human forms to avoid detection better.   “There’s no one nearby, they must have recently left.” Maria states as she closes her eyes, focusing intently on the sounds of the forest.  “Uh, guys..” Jillian whispers.   Like a heard of cattle heading to a pasture, we all surround her in an instant. I guess everyone was a little anxious about being out of our borders searching for a 4 year-old ranked member of our pack.  “Oh.. Darci.” Maria said quietly.  She knelt down and picked up a delicate, thin piece of bright yellow ribbon. The same one Eve’s hair was pulled back with this morning. It was torn, covered in soil and debris. I quickly took it from her hands and smelled it, confirming my fears.  “It’s hers. Eve was here. Good call, Alec.” I smiled weakly in his direction, and he nodded understandingly in response.  “Everyone, head North. We just found evidence Eve was an hour and a half directly North of the tip of our border.” I linked the whole pack solemnly. I didn’t know whether this was a good thing, or a very, very bad thing.
