BLUE FOR BLACK (1)

Unknown POV  *This chapter may contain graphic/triggering scenes for some readers.*   I carried the child far to the West, then doubled back heading Northeast. I had finally reached my destination, located just past where the water runs along the borders of both Black Brook and Blue Brook. There was a slim area around the river that  technically belonged to neither pack. Nestled in the wood line, an unsuspecting redwood stood wide. Underneath layers of vine and foliage, a small door carved from the tree revealed a staircase that headed underneath the waterfall. Master was rather pleased when I brought her in, still unconscious.   He instructed me to bring her to the cell, chaining her tiny ankles and wrists with custom fitted shackling. She laid silently asleep for a few hours before Master decided to wake the child.   “I didn’t expect her to be so young. We will have to wait some time before her powers come to fruition.” Master frowned.   “I couldn’t believe it myself, sire, but it’s true. She is the only white-haired member of the pack, save for some elderly folk.” I scratched my head.  “It isn’t just about the hair, Thallus. Have I taught you nothing? The child shall be female, from the Moon lineage. She’ll possess locks mute of shade, with eyes bright as the stars. She is sacred, bringing prosperity and power to all her citizens.” Master scolded, staring intently at the sleeping girl.   I expected nothing less than coldness from my father. After all, who forces their own son to address them as “Master” other than a callous, greedy being.  “I don’t understand why her age is such an issue. I just brought you the sacred moon child, exactly as you commanded! Where is my respect?” I countered.  “Respect is earned you insolent boy! The issue is, I had planned for her to at least be of age. You are 25 Thallus, I needed you to mate her to link her to Blue Brook to gain her power.  I lost my position 18 years ago, to my own brother no less. This child is supposed to give me the power to take it back! What am I to do with a toddler?!” He roared, startling the girl awake. I was taken aback by his statement. He wanted to force me to mate someone I wasn’t fated to. How typical of this greedy bastard.  “W-where am I? Wh-wh-who are you?” She cried.  “Eve, we are your friends. I am Thallus, this is my father, Gerard.” I spoke calmy.  “Eve, is your daddy’s name Henry?” My father asked her.  Her eyes snapped to his at the mention of the familiar name. She trembled and nodded her head, poking her lip out. Suddenly, Master bristled visibly, freezing in place. He scrutinized the young girl as she stared at him, teary eyed and terrified. She sat still in her spot, staring at him with fearful, large, doe-like, brown eyes. Brown like the color of dark honey.   “Shit.” I mumbled.  “Thallus, this child.. Her eyes are wrong. She says she’s the child of Henry, but her eyes..” He trailed off, once again inspecting the small child before us.  “Maybe the prophecy isn’t exac-”  Master cut me off with a roar.  “The prophecy is absolute! You’ve brought me the wrong child! We must dispose of her immediately and find the true moon child. You i***t child, can’t even handle one simple thing!”  “Da-Master, don’t be rash. She says she is one of the Moon children, she can be of use, give us information. Then I can just drop her by the border, she’s too little to remember anything important.” I suggested. I’ve stood by my father’s side, loyal and willing, but I refused to help with the murder of an innocent little girl.  “Fine.” He grumbled.   “Eve, we are going to play a game.” Master smiled evilly, opening the door to the cell allowing the both of us stepping inside.  “I’m going to ask you questions, very easy questions. Then, we will let you go. There’s lots of rules to this game, so listen closely. If you tell anyone about us, or this place, we will just come back and kill you. If you refuse to answer my questions, you will be hurt very badly until you do. So, answer what I ask of you, and keep this all a big secret. Or else, your punishments for defying orders will be torture, and death. Understood?” He regarded the child without an ounce of compassion.  He disgusts me, but he is my father, the only family I have. I understand his anger, I'm angry too. My father told me that my mother died when I was young, before he was exiled from his position. He told me all our families members disowned and abandoned the two of us, leaving him to fend for us and raise me alone. He was bitter, full of resentment and hatred. He didn’t speak much of it, but he did tell me once that he had 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. That the 6 of them, along with their parents, were the Alpha family of the Brook pack, which had  been dissolved nearly 30 years ago. The territory was parted in two, the river dividing the middle as a natural border. Blue Brook and Black Brook were then established.   My grandfather, Morris Nolan; Gerard’s father, ruled over Blue Brook, while Charles Harrison led Black Brook simultaneously for over 12 years. Nearly 18 years ago, Charles passed the position down to his son Chad shortly after he’d found his mate, who was none other than my father’s sister, Gretchen Nolan. She was 9  years younger than my father, who had found his mate, my mother, at 20 years old. My grandfather stepped down and my father ruled Blue Brook with my mother by his side for 4 years before she passed, and another 3 after that. He had never told me why, but just shy of his 28th birthday, they exiled him and appointed his brother Broderick as Alpha. My father was always too furious to speak much after that part, only stating he would get his rightful position back; his measly little brother didn’t deserve it.  “Alright darling, time to play. Remember, answer my questions, or I’ll break each one of your little fingers.” He cooed maliciously.  Eve was crying, but nodded her head nonetheless.   “Good. Now Eve, you can’t be Henry’s only child, right? Do you have siblings?” He questioned.  She nodded her head once.  “That’s good Eve, but know your place when you are speaking to me. You will say “Yes, Alpha”, are we clear?” He stated, slightly annoyed already.  “Y-yes, Alpha.” She whimpered.  “Excellent! Now, do you have a sister?   “Yes, Alpha. I have two sisters.” She replied.  “What are their names Eve? How old are your sisters? He questioned.  Eve became reluctant. She’s very young, but she can tell something is not right about this situation. She didn’t answer.   My father slammed his fist down onto one of her tiny hands, no doubt cracking her fingers under the weight his hand. She screamed in agony, clutching her hand into her body, crying inconsolably.  “Answer me you little mutt, or your other hand will match it!” He screamed, veins bulging from his neck.  “S-S-Stella. Stella and Darci.” She whimpered out between cries.  “How old are they Eve?” He asked her, dangerously calm.  “Stella is older than me, but she is still little like me. Darci... She just turned to a big girl with her special party. I don’t know how many that is mister Alpha, I really don’t.” She answered.  “That’s okay, Eve. That means she’s 18, of age as they say.” My father grinned at her response.   “Tell me, Eve, what color hair do your sisters have”  “Stella has black hair like Daddy. Darci’s hair is like fire. Not red, more like  orange.” She fessed. My father frowned at this.  “Hair dye?” I added, reading his hesitation.  “Okay. You’ve done well. Last question Eve. Then you can go home.” The little girls eyes lit up at his last sentence.  “Eve, what color are your sisters eyes?”  She stared at Gerard, then slowly lowered her head to the floor.  “Sir Alpha, why do you want to know so much about my sisters?” She questioned him back. Out of nowhere, a small dagger sliced across Eve’s shoulder, eliciting another scream of pure anguish.  “Remember Eve, tell me or you get hurt. I need to find something very important. One of your sisters might be able to help me.” He fibbed.  Eve was crying, trying to cover the blood spilling out of her shoulder. My father was as heinous as they come, though, as she couldn’t cover the wound on her right shoulder  with a  crushed left hand.  “Dad, she doesn’t have her wolf yet. Please stop.” I whispered.  “That’s Master to you, you ungrateful, tarnished  boy. I should’ve left you for the rogues to take as a pup. You never obey like a decent child.” He snapped.  “Now. Little girl don’t make me ask you again.” He threatened, eyes turning dark.  “Stella’s eyes are brown like mine. Darci’s eyes are like Daddy’s kind of. Bright, bright blue..” She whispered, trailing off.  My father stood from his crouched position, smiling like the Cheshire cat.     “Eyes as bright as stars. She must be the one.” He looked to me, meeting my eyes with his own.  “I have a plan.”
