THE UNRAVELING

**Episode 2: The Unraveling** That evening, after dinner, they sat on opposite ends of the couch, both staring at their phones, avoiding eye contact. Ryan had been distant for weeks, and Hannah had tried everything she could to bridge the gap. She had tried to be the wife he once loved, the one who laughed at his jokes, who planned spontaneous weekends, who could still see the spark in his eyes. But lately, the connection between them had dulled, and it seemed like they were both clinging to a version of their relationship that no longer existed. Ryan finally put his phone down and sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I think we need to talk about what’s been happening.” Hannah swallowed, bracing herself. “I know.” “I can’t keep pretending that everything’s fine,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t know how we got here, but we’re not the same people we used to be.” A lump formed in Hannah’s throat. She had known this conversation was coming, but hearing the words spoken aloud made the reality hit harder than she had anticipated. “I feel it too,” she murmured, her voice shaky. “I feel like we’ve been drifting apart for so long, but I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t even know if I can fix it.” Ryan’s eyes flickered with something like regret, but it was quickly replaced by exhaustion. “I don’t think either of us can fix it anymore. Not the way it was.” Hannah felt a sharp pain in her chest. “So, what? Is this it?” “I don’t want it to be,” Ryan said quickly. “But I’m not sure we have any other choice. Maybe... maybe we need some space. Time to figure out who we are, what we want. But I don’t think we can keep pretending to be happy in a marriage that feels broken.” His words stung more than she expected. The man she had loved for so long, the man who had promised to be with her through thick and thin, was telling her that their love wasn’t enough anymore. “Are you saying you want a divorce?” she whispered, her voice breaking. Ryan’s eyes darted away, unable to meet hers. “I don’t know what I want anymore. But... maybe it’s the only way forward.” The silence between them grew heavy, suffocating. It felt like the world had stopped turning, leaving them suspended in a moment of grief, uncertainty, and heartbreak. ---
