**Season 3, Episode 10: "Turning the Page"**
The days after the hike were quieter, almost serene. It felt as though the cabin had granted them a temporary reprieve from the rest of the world, allowing them to take a step back and reevaluate what they wanted, both individually and as a couple. It was clear that they were still learning about each other, still testing the waters of something that had the potential to grow into something lasting, but neither of them seemed rushed.
Hannah had never experienced anything quite like this: a relationship without the weight of constant questioning, a love where trust was a foundation instead of something to be earned. For the first time in a long time, she wasn’t terrified of what the future might bring. She was simply *living* it. And that, in itself, felt like the beginning of something new.

**The weekend ended much too soon.**
They returned to the city late on Sunday evening, their car packed with bags and hiking gear, the last remnants of the crisp mountain air still clinging to their clothes. The drive back had been filled with easy conversation and laughter—something they had both come to cherish in the short time they had spent together. The quiet moments, the unspoken understanding between them, were as comforting as the words they exchanged.
Hannah had barely stepped inside her apartment when her phone buzzed on the counter. She picked it up, her heart sinking as she saw the name on the screen. It was Ryan.
She felt a brief wave of panic before she quickly squashed it. She had moved on. She had made that decision. The past was in the past, and she wasn’t going to let it pull her back in.
She let the phone ring out. The message Ryan had sent weeks ago still loomed large in her mind, and she couldn’t afford to get lost in that world again. She had already seen the ending of that story.

**The following morning, Hannah was at work when she received another message—this time from a different number.**
This one was unexpected. It wasn’t a number she recognized, but something in her gut told her it was important.
Her fingers hovered over the screen for a moment before she opened it. The message was short and to the point:
*“Hannah, we need to talk. It’s about your mom.”*
Her heart dropped.

**A few hours later, she found herself sitting in a small, dimly lit cafe near her office, facing a familiar figure across the table.**
It was her mother’s lawyer, Mark Thompson. The last time they’d spoken was years ago, during the aftermath of her mother’s death, when they had been sorting through the estate. The man was professional, businesslike, but there was a certain gravity to his presence now—an unease that made Hannah’s stomach churn.
“I’m sorry to drag you into this, Hannah,” Mark said, his voice low, almost apologetic. “But I think it’s important you know what’s going on. Your mother’s estate has encountered some complications.”
Hannah’s mind raced. The last thing she had expected today was to hear about her mother’s finances. After her mother’s passing, she had tried to bury the past, to move on from all the unresolved emotions tied to her complicated relationship with her mother.
“What do you mean, ‘complications’?” Hannah asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Mark took a deep breath, clearly uncomfortable. “There are some discrepancies. It seems that your mother made changes to her will shortly before her death, changes that we hadn’t been made aware of at the time. I’ve been trying to sort through it all, but it’s… complicated.”
Hannah’s mind reeled. *Changes to the will?* She hadn’t known anything about that. In fact, her mother had never mentioned any such modifications, and Hannah had always assumed the estate would be divided as planned.
“Is it something that I need to worry about?” she asked, trying to keep the panic from creeping into her voice.
Mark hesitated, his eyes shifting to the side as if unsure of how to proceed. “Hannah, there’s a clause in the will. And I think you need to see it for yourself.” He slid a folder across the table. “I can’t explain the full extent of it without you reviewing it. But your mother made a decision. One that could affect everything.”
Hannah opened the folder, her hands trembling slightly as she scanned the document. The legal jargon was dense, but one phrase stood out to her, etched in bold: *The beneficiary of the estate shall be designated based on the fulfillment of a particular condition—one that can only be met through reconciliation with the person named in the will.*
The words hit her like a blow to the stomach.
Reconciliation? With *who*?
She looked up at Mark, confusion and dread pooling in her chest. “What does this mean? Reconciliation with *who*? I don’t understand.”
Mark swallowed hard before speaking. “Hannah… the condition is you reconciling with Ryan.”
---
**The next few days were a blur.**
Hannah couldn’t quite wrap her mind around the revelation. Why on earth would her mother include such a clause in her will? The idea of reconciliation with Ryan—someone who had hurt her deeply, someone she had sworn to leave behind—was beyond anything she had ever imagined.
She sat on her couch, staring blankly at the phone in her hand. The weight of her mother’s stipulation pressed on her chest, threatening to suffocate her. She didn’t want to do this. She didn’t want to go back into the mess of her past. She had finally moved forward—she was building something real with Sam, something pure.
But now, it felt as if her past was forcing its way into her present, dragging her back into a place she had fought so hard to escape. *Reconciliation with Ryan.*
She had to decide whether to face it or walk away. But could she really turn her back on her mother’s last wish? Could she afford to ignore this, to live with the knowledge that she had the chance to change the outcome of her inheritance by doing something she wasn’t ready to face?
The doorbell rang.
Hannah opened it to find Sam standing there, his expression soft, yet filled with concern.
"Hey," he said, looking at her with a quiet understanding. "I thought we could talk."
Hannah stepped back to let him in, suddenly feeling an overwhelming sense of relief just at the sight of him. She needed him now, more than ever. But as she closed the door behind him, she knew that she had a conversation ahead that could change everything.
