‘What is going on? Why he wants to talk to me?’
A lot of thoughts ran through his mind as Asher walked to his father’s office. every movement is slow and heavy. If it wasn’t for his alpha’s blood he would choose to not to come.
It has nothing to do with him being afraid of his own father.
It was because something else. Something deep.
He loved his father. He would sacrifice himself for him without thinking. He knew it. His father knew it as well.
Still, a weird feeling inhabits his heart.
No matter how much he tried, he couldn’t let it go. He doesn’t have the ability to forgive him. And that tortured him more.
How he can have such a feeling about his own father. The father that he knew that he loved the most. And would do anything for him.
Or at least that what he thought in the past.
Asher’s movement stooped as he now in front of his father’s office.
He took a deep breath. Straighten himself up. Hold the door’s knot and waited.
He doesn’t need to knock on it.
“Come in.” a deep male voice spoke.
Asher opened the door and entered.
Despite his mixed feelings about his father. Asher loved his office a lot. He always admires it when he came. Whatever was the reason he summons in and that time wasn’t any different.
Asher stood there for a moment, admiring the beauty and magnificence of this office.
Since the pack house has been build. It has its appearance to change to fit the changing in every generation.
And the office wasn’t an exception.
Every time Asher step in, he could feel them. Every alpha who ruled before left his mark in the office.
On the contrary of that, the office didn’t lose its original shape and definitely all that changing didn’t made it unpleasable.
Instead, it made Asher’s heart speed faster.
It was their office, his father’s office.
And it will be his.
Soon.
“Take a seat, son.” The current alpha finally opened his mouth.
The reason that made him not talk right away when Asher step in, that he knew how much his son loved the office. how it made him feel.
After all, he himself had a familiar experience.
The current alpha’s jaw tightens at the memory.
Asher unaware of his father internal thoughts took a seat on the right side, opposite to his father.
“You wanted to talk to me, father?” Asher began as he raised his right brow.
“Yes.” The current alpha cleared his throat before continuing.
Asher waited for his father to continue.
“I... it’s about your coming birthday.” The current alpha found difficulty to talk.
Asher’s forehead furrowed.
“As you know. Your birthday will come in a few months. And then you will be able to inherit me.” The current alpha’s corners of his mouth lift up.
“Then I will give you, my title. Official of course.”
Asher’s eyes went round.
“.. I can’t do that, father.” After hesitation for a few seconds, he declined.
“Why you can’t?” a look of confusion on the current alpha.
“I didn’t find her.” Asher grief voice sounded in the office.
The current alpha sadness clouded his features.
For a few moments he didn’t speak. Instead, he kept silent.
“I knew that. And you don’t need to worry.” his voice came steady.
“What do you mean?” unconscious, Asher tilted his head. Along with narrowing his eyes.
“Time change. People change. So do the rulers.” The current alpha began. A hint of relieve in his voice.
“I didn’t get it.” Asher’s brows knitted.
“You can take a chosen mate.” The current alpha informed calmy. his voice steady and low.
Before Asher could open his mouth to object. The current alpha raised his right hand in a motion to stop his son.
“Your mother and I though a lot about this.” The current alpha firm voice fell on Asher’s ears.
Asher stiffens. What the hell is going on?
“She will come to you later to talk about the details.” The current alpha continued his conversation.
“…. But. What about the traditions. What the elders will say. What the pack’s members will think?” Asher’s voice came wobbly. His eyes went round. His breathing uneven.
“True pack’s members knew how important for their alpha to have a luna beside him. for him and for them. Therefore, they will understand.” The current alpha didn’t show any emotions in his voice.
“as well as it will not be permanently. Just temporarily, till you find your mate.” His voice mixed with hoping and sadness.
Asher’s mouth set in a hard line. His lower lip quivered.
“What if…. What if a don’t have a mate! What if she died a long time ago or something like that. What if I never had one.” Asher shouted.
The current alpha didn’t say anything. He knew that Asher didn’t shout at him, but to himself.
Asher stared at the desk for seconds before he opened his mouth again.
“What if I will never have one.” Asher voice became low at the end.
The current alpha’s eyes had softened. His mouth curved into a smile.
“don’t forget who you are, Asher. Don’t forget where you came from. What do you present. Someone with your heritage will have a great mate. She will be perfect for you. And she will deserve every moment you spent waiting for her.” the current alpha’s eyes sparked as a distant memory past his mind. Unconscious, the corners of his mouth quirked.
Asher blinked.
After calming down, he noticed that he had stood. So, he sits back again.
The silence covered the room.
‘don’t even dare to think about it!’
A deep male voice threated him.
Asher squeezed his eyes shout. That wasn’t the right time to show up.
‘I show up when I want that, idiot.’ The voice mocked and scolded him as well.
Mae and her joked. He hated that he had copied her.
‘What will you do? Crying?’ the voice continued its insults.
The current alpha laughs.
Asher raised his head from his hand and looked directly at his father.
“Your wolf hates it, right?” his tone holds a hint of humor.
Asher nod.
“don’t worry, pup. Everything will be fine. Trust your father.” The current alpha spoke calmly.
As like his voice was enchantant. The wolf starts to calm down. And soon he left the surface.
Asher put a hand on his heart, as he separated his lips. The current alpha interrupted him.
“You don’t have to choose right now! There are a lot of time before your ceremony. Don’t push yourself.”
Just like his wolf. He began to calm down.
“If you needed me, you know where I am.” The current alpha ended their conversation.
With that Asher stood and walked to the door. As he held the door’s knot, he heard his father.
“Asher. You are my son. My pup. My first born. Not just my heir. I love you the most.” The current alpha’s voice rarely became soft and shacky.
“I will do anything for you without hesitation.” His voice suffocates.
“I know that words aren’t enough. And that I am late. To late.” His eyed start to get foggy.
“I am sorry, son. I should have done better.” The current alpha felt his throat getting tighter.
Asher froze. He didn’t expect that.
Without realizing, a sad smile showed on his face. Then he opened the door and left, closing it after him.
The current alpha lowered his head. He holds it with his hands.
‘I did it.’ He sighs sadly.
‘You did well, my dear.’ A female voice echoed in his head.
