11 Alexander

We leave the hospital, hand in hand. A week ago I couldn’t have imagined finding my mate. Now standing here with her hand in mine, I can't imagine life without her. “I’ll give you the quick tour for now as we walk. I also want to introduce you to a couple people before we go to the screening room.” I say. She smiles. “Im a bit nervous, Alexander. What if they don’t like me?" My mate asks frowning slightly. "They will feel you're their Luna. It’s not just me you'll bond with. You will form connections with each member of this pack. It’s not just emotional It’s biological too.” I tell her. She smiles and says, "So, no pressure.” I laugh, and tell her, “It will be easier than you think, the connections will form. Just be yourself.” I kiss her hand and continue, "So pack territory covers about sixty square miles, all redwood forest. The training house and grounds are to the south. There's a banquet hall behind the pack house for celebrations, and a lake with a cabin about a mile north.” I tell her as we reach the house. She's grinning happily. “This is home my love.” I say to her. She releases my hand and runs up the front steps, turning the knob on the door but waiting to open it until I join her, so we can walk through together. “It smells like apple pie in here!” My mate says as we walk inside. “Indeed it does my dear!” Mrs Leoni says as she comes walking into the front room. She walks over to my mate and hugs her tightly. “Welcome Luna.” Mrs. Leoni says happily. “My Love this is Mrs. Leoni. Malekai’s mother. Malekai is my beta. Second in command, and eventually, one of your best friends.” I say. "I'm not your best friend? My feelings are actually hurt bro.” Malekai says jokingly, also coming into the room from the kitchen. "Were glad you're here.” He says to her. My mate nods at him smiling. I say, “Ok a quick run down of the house before we go to the screening room. Here on the ground floor, the front room, the dining room, and kitchen. The second floor is our suite, Angie and Malakai’s suite, and the screening room.” I explain to my mate. Malekai interjects, saying, “Angie is my mate, and when you're ready, she cannot wait to meet you Luna." I smile and continue. “The third floor has Jackson and Lexi’s suite, -Jackson is our Gamma. A set of guest quarters, and my office." I say. My mate smile fades. “We should get this done before I change my mind.” She says. “Whats up?” Malekai asks us. “We have a meeting with the Oracle.” I say. Malekai makes a face. “Ugh, I love Angie's mom, but the Oracle thing has always freaked me out. I'm just glad I've never been on her radar. She's really good with her gift though.” He says. “Well we should go up. We'll come get something to eat when were done. See you guys in a while.” I say to Malekai and his mom. I hold out my hand to my mate and she takes it, letting me guide her up the stairs to the screening room. I open the door and the lights come on automatically. We enter and my mate gasps. “A screening room, You meant a theater! I don’t think I've ever seen anything like this!” My mate says awestruck. Dr. Baldwin and Mrs. Bennet come in and join us. Mrs. Bennett sets to work right away, moving two armchairs about a foot apart from each other side by side. Mrs Bennet says, “Alright, lets do this, The moon is high and my power is at its peak.” Alexander and I sit. Mrs. Bennet says, “Okay it’s simple. Hold hands here in the middle. I will place my hand on the back of your head Luna, to open your mind. Alpha I'll do the same to you to make the connection. Luna let what you see before you play out. Don't try and interact, that's how you get lost. Remember, you can't change anything. It’s already happend. Ready?” I look at my mate and she looks afraid. “Alexander?” she says. “I’m right here my love.” I say softly. My mate nods. She says firmly, "I'm ready.” I wish there had been a way to prepare myself for what was to happen, but I doubt anyone could've. Mrs. Bennet places her hand on the back of my mates head. My mate gasps, and her eyes glaze over. “The connection has been made, prepare yourself Alpha.” Mrs. Bennet says. She places her hand on the back of my head. I feel as though I’m being sucked through a tunnel. After a moment I'm able to focus. I hear two people arguing. Suddenly there's a scene before me. A man, screaming at a woman over an infant. “SHE CANT POSSIBLY BE MINE!” The man screams, “FIND A PLACE TO TAKE HER OR YOU CAN GO TOO! I CAN'T HAVE THAT IN MY HOUSE!! He points at the child. Everything goes dark. There are jumbled images and screaming, before I see the woman placing the baby in the arms of a priest, saying “She's like the other girls.” The scene changes again and we're looking at a female child about age five with her hands bound. Listening to the same priest speak about nature. Her face is red, stained with tears. The scene fogs over and I realize that my Luna is standing next to me. The picture becomes clear again. There are other little girls, about six years of age running from a bear. “Seraphine!'' they're screaming. My Luna, also about six, stop, holds up her hands and shouts something. The bear changes back into the priest. Her name is Seraphine! Thousands of images flash by and I see and feel it all. As her childhood streams by, suddenly I'm hit with the realization that my Luna isn’t human, but a witch, and a powerful one. Seraphine was the last of thirteen girls brought to the church, each by their own mothers, because even as babies they had magick. My Luna was the strongest. They tried to teach her to control herself. There are other things here though. Beautiful things. I see her giving flowers to her sisters on their birthdays. I see her using her magick to make them clothes, and give them snow during the solstice. I feel her love for them. How much she cares about them. There are horrors here too. A bishop killing her bird, and making her bring it back to life, over and over. A dark stone room, wet and cold, they used to punish her. Suddenly we're in the dark. I can hear girls crying and a man shouting. “Where do you think your power comes from?! It was given to you by the devil and you are here to be purified so you can use it for the church!” Things around us swirl, then slam into focus, showing us two of her sisters huddled together, crying, holding each other in a corner of the dark stone room. One of them with blood streaked across her thigh. My Luna, about thirteen now, was in a rage, her tiny body hovering slightly off the ground. Her eyes flashing wildly. “YOU WILL NEVER TOUCH MY SISTERS AGAIN! YOU WILL NEVER TOUCH ANYONE AGAIN!" Seraphine screams at a priest. She raises up her left hand. What happens next can not really be described, but in essence the priest was reduced to a thick red mist that covered the floor Again at least a few thousand memories swirl by, as I grow ever more angered at the treatment of my Luna. She was such a caring little girl. I watch them take her from her sisters after she killed that priest, and place her in a tower high above the church. Restricting her contact completely with the outside world. Seeing her sisters for only an hour each day for prayer together. She was so alone. For many years. Too many. Suddenly I realize I'm seeing this over the span of nearly three hundred years. Pain, sadness, love. I can feel every bit of it. The scene around us changes again and this time I'm seeing the Vampire. He's at the church, demanding to see the witches. No one knows how he found them. Turned away he leaves, returning over and over. One day, tired of fighting to get them to come out to him, he comes back bringing many vampires with him. Angry he kept coming back, and afraid for her sisters, Seraphine came down from her tower and introduced herself. She told him what would happen if he didn't go. The Vampire refused to leave, he threatened them. Seraphine gave them all one last chance to leave her and her sisters alone. They wouldn’t. When it was over Seraphine had obliterated all but one. He couldn't be killed. The Vampire who's name I now know to be Jaren. When he left he told her he would be back. For her. She would be his prize now. He was relentless. Her sisters knew they could do nothing to stop him so they decided the best thing to do was to hide her. In time. They worked on a spell for weeks that would combine their powers and send Seraphine to her ‘destiny’ wherever in time that would be. At least that way she'd be safe. Safe with me. I watched her say goodbye hugging each of them tightly. All of them with tears streaming down their faces, wishing there was another way. “We were supposed to change the world together,” Seraphine said sobbing as she held on to them for the few seconds she had left. “The Goddess gave me all this power and it's useless. How can I go without you?” She asked.. She hurt so much, my heart ached for her. Seraphine felt so much fear and sadness, but underneath, is this profound love for her sisters. I can feel how everything she had done was for them. Knowing she would be without them for the rest of her life nearly broke her. They circled around Seraphine and read the spell together. When they finished she began to disappear, fade out of her own time and into mine, a hundred years into the future, with the voices of her sisters shouting out their last messages of love to her. Instead of showing us where Seraphine ended up however something else begins to happen. The air starts to crackle and spark with blue electricity, not just in Seraphines head but in the actual room around us. Whispering begins coming from everywhere calling her name. "Seraphine." Suddenly, like a fast moving train we're sent hurtling into the now. I watch her appear in the forest at the edge of pack territory, scared out of her mind. Alone for only moments before the vampire also appears. I watch him hunt her for almost two days. Thinking it's nearly over, as her memories begin slowing, we are watching only minutes before we found her, catching up to the present. The Vampire circles a hollowed out log Seraphine is hidden in. Taunting her. Then he says it, “I have killed all of your sisters.” I look at her and she screams. “NO! PLEASE NO!” The heartbreak she feels is overwhelming. It's like nothing I have ever felt, not connected to a memory but coming directly from her. Pain. For a moment the air in the room is still, void of sound. Then the electricity crackles, exploding, breaking the windows and burning a hole through the movie screen into the wall. Seraphine sinks to the floor in her mind sobbing. As the electricity in the room threatens to expand again, a new voice plays in her head. Actually more like a dozen voices. “Seraphine,” they call out softly. “Seraphine, Can you hear us?” She stops crying and stands looking around. “Amelia? Ava?” Seraphine calls out. “Yes Seraphine, we're here.” She wipes her face and asks, “How?" hopeful. “We only have a bit of time, you must listen. You are the strongest of us, you always have been. The Goddess made you that way. She created each of us for a purpose, to protect nature and the magic within it. She gave us each a magical gift. You were supposed to be our leader, and bind us together, but you never learned how to control your magic. Then they locked you away from us. If we only had more time together. Seraphine, we knew we were not strong enough to stop the Vampire, but given enough time we knew you could. He got to us eventually, but the spell that we used to send you through time was intertwined with our life magic. If we were killed our magic was supposed to pass to you. Vampires can not possess or use magic because they are dead and no longer a part of nature. Still Jaren tried. Serena was the last of us to be killed. She used her power to place us all here together, one last time in your memory. Please, take your place as our leader Seraphine. Say our names, and accept our magick. We know you don't feel ready. You are. We believe in you. We always have. It’s time for us to say goodbye now.” they tell her. Seraphine reaches out with her hand, “Please don’t go, not yet.” She begs them. “I miss you so much.” Seraphine says, tears falling. "Seraphine, we're part of each other and always will be. But you were sent here, to this time for a reason. Your destiny is with this wolf and his pack. They will love you, and protect you, and you will use our gifts to do the same. Our magick will go on in this forest, with you. As it's supposed to.” Seraphine's sisters say. Seraphine says her goodbyes to each of her sisters, calling out their names, and accepting their magic. It's beautiful to witness. Before the connection ends I hear a faint voice call out to me. “Alexander DeCosta, we turn over care of our sister to you. Protect her with your life as we did. Love her until your last breath. We will be watching you always."
