You might not believe it, but I was born into the world fully grown, just a few hours ago. Maybe its been more than a few hours. I can't really remember. Why can't I remember? I know it’s night, that's much is apparent. Its very dark. Right now I am outside crouching on the the wet muddy ground behind a bush, trying to catch my breath and keep quiet. Its cold, not winter cold, but I can just slightly see my breath. I look up, and I can't really see the sky. I know I'm in the woods or a forest, but I have absolutely no memory of how I got here. Wait, running. I remember a lot of running. I'm a girl, I know that, and my name is, - huh, can't remember my name. Or on a second thought I can't remember anything about who I am, or any other thing that might matter to me right now. Damn. Wait, what is that? I can hear leaves crunching and hard footfalls somewhere very near to where I am. My heart starts pounding and I instantly feel like a hunted animal. I turn my head to the side listening intently, trying to figure out which direction the sound is coming from. A deep gravelly voice calls out, piercing the quiet of the night. “I know you're here, little witch! I do not know how you hid for so long, but this ends here! I grow tired of this hunt. I have waited for a hundred years, and now, finally, you WILL give me what I want!" My heart is nearly beating out of my chest. What the hell? What does he want? I don't have anything. I Can’t even remember my name. Wait did he say a hundred years?? I'm either in a nightmare or this guy is crazy. He is obviously after me, whoever he is. It is the only thing I do know for sure. I am so confused and scared. I stand up as fast as I can, searching in the dark for anywhere I can hide. It so hard to focus, I can't really see anything. The trees are so thick here, even on a full moon night I doubt you could see a thing. There is a group of fallen trees just ahead of me, and I can barely make out that one of the trunks has hallowed out. I run as fast as I can from my inferior hiding place and climb carefully on the log and slide inside, trying to be as quiet as I can without hurting myself. I try to ignore the ants crawling on my hands, and I realize that both of my hands are raw. They're scratched badly and bleeding in places, though I can't see exactly how badly. My knees feel sore as well. I focus again on my situation, which is impossibly bleak. Here I am hiding in a hollowed out log, wishing like hell I could disappear. I can hear hard footsteps, and crunching again, very close. His voice pierces the quiet of the night, “I know you are here somewhere! Your magic gives you away! All of your sisters are dead, they tried to fight, and I could not get theirs. You are the last, and I have been patient long enough, I will have yours!” He snarls angrily into the dark. I am trying my hardest to stay as still as I can, but I am scared out of my mind. My heart feels as though it is going to beat out of my chest. Wait sisters? Why can't I remember anything? What is he talking about yours. My what? The cold is starting to make me shiver, but I'm fighting myself to remain still. His voice rings out again closer this time. “If you come out now, and give me what I want I promise it will be quick. However… If you choose to prolong this, I can and will make you suffer.” He starts moving again, coming even closer to my hiding place. I begin to wonder if I climb out of here quietly, and sprint as fast as I can if I am fast enough to outrun him. I quickly decide against it. I don't know where I am or where to go. "I can do this for days longer. Weeks if I have to, you on the other hand are getting weaker and weaker, I will catch you. Too many of my kind died at your hand witch. If I am truly the last of my kind, I will be the strongest." His angry, hissing voice declared. I realize at some point as I am listening to him, that I am holding my breath. I breathe out slowly, and suck in a small breath trying not to make a sound. It doesn’t matter now though, somehow I have been found. “Ahh, I see,” says the harsh voice, almost amused. “There you are!” A moment later a hard, cold hand wraps around my ankle, and yanks me hard out of the log, scratching and cutting my arms in the process. It's quite painful, and I scream loudly. I cannot yet see my attacker and the fear is nearly overwhelming. My heart is pounding so hard and the blood is rushing in my ears. I am not prepared for what happens next. For a few long moments I am disoriented as I am flung upside down. I try to fight, swinging my arms and kicking with everything I have. That only seems to make things worse. I am lifted up higher by my ankle, which feels like it's being crushed. I feel like a rag doll. I'm doing my best to see who it is that has hold of me, while I'm still suspended in mid air, but it really is impossible. My attacker snarls and then I am slammed hard into the ground. I hear cracking, and pain explodes on my right side. I try to scream but for a moment I'm breathless and no sound will come out. Dear Goddess the pain. I'm pretty sure my ribs are broken. I feel like I’m going to black out. All the air has been knocked out of me and I am struggling to take a breath. Again, I feel that cold hand, but this time it’s wrapping around my neck and lifts me off the ground, as though I weigh nothing. Im trying to focus as tears are spilling from eyes but It’s so dark I can barely make out the silhouettes of nearby trees. I'm trying desperately to yell, but no sound will come out. I start trying to fight again, flailing and wiggling around, but as I kick my legs, I am slammed hard, back up against a tree, the back of my head exploding with pain. My legs are dangling a few feet above the ground, and I stop moving, the fight having been beaten out of me. It’s too much and the edges of my vision begin to darken. I can’t hold up my head anymore, and it rolls to the side. My attacker still has his hand firmly around my neck, and he takes a step closer towards me. It is now I can see him, and his cold, angry, bloodshot blue eyes. His hard, sharp looking face and thin blue lips. His skin is so pale it seems translucent. The contrast of his skin is made worse by his long, stringy, raven black hair. You can see thin veins just beneath the skins surface. I get this sick feeling of disgust in the pit of my stomach when I look into his eyes. Right now though that could be the fact I am about to die. Do I know him? Why can't I remember anything? “Give me what I want!” He yells in my face angrily. His voice is so full of hatred. I widen my eyes and I blink at him for a few moments, tears streaming down my face. I'm speechless, I can barely breathe and even if I could, I dont have the slightest idea how to respond. He is clearly loosing patience, not that he had much to begin with. He slightly loosens his grip on my throat. I take a small breath, and respond. "I really don't understand what you want.” I manage to choke out. He becomes enraged, his white face twisting grotesquely with anger. I whimper, fresh tears spilling down my cheeks as I realize his evil face will be the last thing that I ever see again. A light burst from somewhere behind him that I can't see. Then I swear, off to the left, a bit in the distance, I can see several enormous wolves. Of course I am hallucinating. I'm going to die any minute, and my mind is starting to unravel. "GIVE IT TO ME! END THIS!" He screeches, an inch away from my face. "I-, I really don't know what you wwant." I whimper quietly, telling him the truth. My vision is blurring and I can't feel myself slowly slipping into unconsciousness. My attacker hisses at me, this thick snake-like noise, his eyes wild. “As you wish!” he says angry, hatefully. He opens his mouth, and begins to bring his teeth to my neck. Suddenly the forest around me erupts with sound. It's as though howling is coming from every direction. Of course I am hallucinating. How strangely your mind behaves in the moments before death. Unable to hold on to consciousness any longer everything finally goes dark.
