I end up waking really early and decide to finally shower before anyone else is up, but as I open my door to go down the hall it's clear that everyone is already up the lights are all on and I can hear people downstairs talking.
"Morning Flint. How're you feeling?" Brick calls to me from the other end of the hall by the stairs. I was hoping to get in and out of the shower before anyone realizes I am up yet.
"Hey Brick. I am definately feeling better today thanks." I say to him.
"Yeah a visit from Mrs. Leoni and her famous pizza always helps. I hope your not pissed that we had her come see you." Brick says.
"It's cool. I think she actually helped, and I don't just mean the pizza." I say.
"Mrs. Leoni is amazing. We all have had to go to her at one time or another for something." Brick says nodding.
"Is everyone up already?" I ask him as he comes walking down the hall towards me.
"Yeah during the week we get up pretty early to train. It's different on the weekends because we have night patrols. don't worry you'll get used to the schedule." Brick says.
"Should I head out to the training pitch now?" I ask him wondering what I should be doing.
"It's your first real day here so no worries there's breakfast down in the kitchen after you shower if you want. We eat breakfast really early most days. You can join us on the pitch and meet the guys if you think you're ready." Brick says.
"Yeah sounds good." I say to him hoping I am healed enough to train with them.
"Okay then, I'll see you out there." Brick says and then heads downstairs leaving me alone.
I walk into the bathroom and close the door. I stand in front of the mirror staring into my own green eyes for a few minutes. Surveying the bruises on my face, seeing my light brown hair so dirty and greasy. I need to shower. I've definately looked better.
I shower quickly and run downstairs, to grab something to eat. I fight the urge to gorge myself on bacon and eggs. I grab a modest amount of both and a some Orange juice. I feel like it's been so long since I have had a civilized meal.
If Burniston hadn't destroyed my home. I would probably be at home in my own bed waiting for my nine year old sister Katie to come in and wake me up for her favorite breakfast. Waffles.
I would sit down I'm my own kitchen at my own table and eat breakfast with my parents. Then afterwards I would go out with My father and our Warriors and train until lunch time. Most days I hated it. My father would remind me daily that these were things I would need to know, when I became Alpha.
Training always seemed so boring to me. But right now, as generous as Alpha Alexander is, I would give anything to be home, being bored, training with my father.
I will never be awoke by Katie for breakfast again, never hear my mother hum while she cooks in the kitchen. I will never again see my father look at me with pride in his eyes. I will never take his place and be Alpha.
That bothers me just as much as their deaths. My fathers land is being occupied by filthy murderous rogues, left there by the worst Alpha in history. I will never get my chance to rule, I will never get hold up or build upon the great wolf pack my father and his father before him work so hard for.
There will never be a Dunham on the seat of power in those lands again. That's really all that's left in the place that used to be my home anyway.. Just Land. There's no packhouse, no hospital, no training grounds. Its all gone.
I realize I'm on the verge of tears, while I'm staring at my plate of food when the sound of the guys outside training snaps me out of it.
I wish thinking about my family wasn't so damn painful. I miss them too much not to think of them. Especially my sister.
I finish my food and take my plate to the sink and wash it. As I turn to leave the kitchen Brick comes in with a large blond headed man behind him.
"Flint, this is Gamma Jackson. Jackson this is Flint. He's going to be joining us at the eclipse ceremony." Brick says smiling.
Gamma Jackson reaches out to shake my hand. "I was sorry to hear about your family. Your father was a good guy. One of the Best Alphas. I wish we could have done something. Its not right what happend. My mate Lexi comes from your pack. Her parents were also killed. I hope we can make you feel welcome here." Gamma Jackson says.
I nod at him and say. "You are thanks. This is the first time in a week that I feel like a person again." I say to them.
"You think you're healed enough to come out and train with us?" Brick asks me.
"I hope so. I'm not very good at sitting still or lying in bed all day. I'd go crazy" I say to Brick.
"Alright then. Gamma Jackson joins us once or twice a week to train, and lucky for us today is one of those days." Brick says smiling.
I nod my head and follow them outside where the other Omegas were outside, sparring.
Brick takes me around and introduces me to to everyone. I spend a few minutes talking to each of them, even getting to hear a little bit of gossip about the new Luna.
After about twenty minutes Brick shouted for Everyone to pair up and get ready to train. I took turns moving around every every so often to a different partner.
Though they are a friendly bunch of guys they are all tough as nails. None of them are going easy on me.
After a solid couple hours of trading punches, kicks and every other move you can think of Gamma Jackson calls a water break.
He comes walking over to me and hands me a bottle of water and asks if we can talk.
"Sure is everything okay?" I ask Jackson.
"Yeah, I was actually just wondering about your training Flint. Were you trained by your father?" He asks me.
"Every day since I've been able to walk." I say to him half smiling.
"I thought so. You a very good fighter. I was watching out there and there were a couple of times you could have hit harder or landed critical punches and you held back purposely." He says nodding at me.
"I just got here. I'm not trying to make enemies, besides the whole purpose of training is to get better. I have plenty of time to show them how hard I can hit." I say to him.
Gamma Jackson stares at me for a moment and then says "I hope to don't mind me saying this but you are so much like your father."
I nod at him. "Before I might have not taken that as a compliment, but when I stick to doing the things he taught, me I somehow feel closer to him, you know." I say to him.
Jackson nods back at me and says, "Lets get to it."
With our break over, we pair up again and start sparring. We don't spend that much time exchanging punches when everyone stops moving and turns towards the tree line standing still. I look around for a moment trying to figure out whats going on. However without being part of the mind link I have no information and not a single one of them is saying anything.
Suddenly there is howling in the distance. The sounds of a dozen or more wolves coming from behind us to the South. One of the warriors who had been on patrol came bolting out of the trees, running straight for us.
"Burniston is here! He's not alone!" The warrior screams.
"The others that are on patrol are coming back to meet us! Jackson there's at least forty rogues with him! Brick yells.
Gamma Jackson turns and screams loudly, "SETH, BANE, DECKER, MATT! GO TO THE PACK HOUSE NOW!" Without a word or a look all four boys go tearing across the field towards the packhouse at lightning speed.
Gamma Jackson turns to me and Asks, "Flint, Do you think you are you strong enough to defend yourself?"
I nod my head and answer him quickly, "Yes I am. What should I do? I can't hear you guys yet." I ask him quickly, reminding him I unable to hear them through the link.
"If Burniston is here and he has brought others with him, he came for a fight. I'm going to assume you want revenge, but right now we just need help defending our territory. We aren't prepared for this." Gamma Jackson says quickly.
I nod, "What should I do?" I ask him my heart pounding. My father made sure I could fully defend myself but this will be the first time I've actually had to do it. Until now it's all been training.
"Follow me and the rest of the boys to the south side of our territory and get ready to defend our home!" Jackson says sounding worried.
With my heart pounding I follow behind them running fast to keep up. I say a silent prayer, ''Dear Goddess, please let me be as good a fighter as Gamma Jackson thinks I am.''
