Chapter One: "The Night She Fell"
kael pov
The storm howled through the trees like a pack of banshees, shaking the forest with wind and fury. Lightning cracked across the sky, splitting the heavens with white-hot light. Beneath the chaos, the ground trembled—not from nature, but from something older, darker, and wounded.
Alpha Kael Stormrider crouched low at the forest edge, his midnight-black wolf eyes scanning the shadows ahead. Rain soaked his clothes, but he didn’t flinch. He could feel it—blood. Not wolf. Not human. Something ancient.
“Do you smell that?” he asked, voice like gravel.
“I smell a whole lot of forest rot and bad weather,” muttered Darius Nightfang beside him, fingers twitching like they wanted to fight something—anything.
Rowan Thorneclaw, the third Alpha, stood silent between them. “It’s not from here,” he finally said. “That scent... It’s cold. Undead.”
The three Alphas didn’t hesitate. Together, they ran—moving like shadows through the storm. The Crescent Moon Pack had ruled this land for generations, guarded by the unbreakable bond of its triple Alphas. Nothing entered their borders without their knowing.
But tonight... something had slipped through.
They found her near the Silverbone River, crumpled at the base of a tree like a fallen star. Her body was broken, her pale skin nearly translucent beneath the rain. Her black hair fanned around her like spilled ink. Blood stained the hem of her aqua-blue gown, elegant even in ruin.
Kael was the first to approach. The moment he saw her, something inside him growled to life.
“Careful,” Rowan said. “She’s not unconscious. She’s pretending.”
As if on cue, the girl’s eyes snapped open—deep crimson glowing in the stormlight. Her lips parted, revealing fangs.
“Don’t touch me,” she hissed, voice like silk over broken glass.
Then she collapsed.
Kael caught her before she hit the mud, surprised at how light she was. Her skin burned cold against his own.
“She’s a vampire,” Darius muttered, nostrils flaring.
“No,” Kael said, voice low. “She’s more than that.”
They stared down at her as thunder cracked overhead. And that’s when it hit them.
The pull.
Their wolves howled inside their chests. Not in fear, not in anger—in recognition.
Kael’s breath caught. Rowan stumbled back. Darius’s hands curled into fists.
“She’s...” Darius whispered. “She’s our mate.”
All three of them.
Hours Later — The Infirmary
The woman slept fitfully, her face pale but beautiful, even bruised. Kael hadn’t left her side. Neither Rowan nor Darius had. None of them spoke of what they felt—they didn’t need to. The bond was already threading itself through them like silver vines.
“She’s not an ordinary vampire,” Rowan said. “I can feel... her magic is different. Wild. Tied to the moon somehow.”
“She shouldn’t even be alive,” Kael said.
Darius stared at her lips. “Maybe she’s not. Not entirely.”
Thunder rolled again in the distance. Outside, wolves began to gather, their instincts stirring.
The moment she awoke, the world would change.
And somewhere, far away, something watched.
