Pathummayude Aadu - Reviw

Vaikom Muhammad Basheer isn't an individual - he is an establishment. He is one of the trailblazers of Malayalam writing. He and his counterparts composed sensible fiction before innovation with its tormented dreams and abnormal dreams grabbed hold of Kerala. Patthummayude Aadu ("Patthumma's Goat") is a fictionalized record of Basheer's day to day life - just thing is, as with the vast majority of his accounts, we can't get out whatever is truth and what is fiction. The goat has a place with Basheer's sister Patthumma (Fatima), and is described by a ravenous hunger. It eats everything without exception. Basheer portrays with his trademark wry humor how it once had his lunch, alongside the banana leaf it was served on! Also, when it gets eating his cover in the wake of cleaning going two of his books, Basheer says: "Dear Goat, kindly eat every one of the books you need, I can get another duplicate printed: however let this sweeping be! It costs cash, and it isn't not difficult to get another duplicate!" As can be surmised from the above sentence, the goat is a similitude for the all-consuming yearning of a family living in neediness. When Basheer's nephew comes crying to him, in light of the fact that the goat has eaten his pant pocket alongside the 25-paise coin inside it: his dad will beat him assuming he comes to know about it. The compassionate author gives him cash from his vault, then gets and ties up the goat and quietly sits tight for it to crap, so he can get his 25 paise back, on the grounds that cash is scant! Eventually, every one of the kin unite as one to overcome Patthumma and her free-meandering goat by draining it and involving the milk for their own motivations. The novel (or rather, novella) is shot through with humor even while it assaults genuine existential issues. This is Basheer's brand name.
