Chapter 5: Dealership
We resumed our journey, stopping at a convenience store in the underground paths. This had already been broken into, which was both good and bad: it made easier to get at things—and the milk was, thankfully, though warm, still good—but it also told us others were around. After our last encounter, we weren’t keen on meeting anyone really.
Finally we came to where Rick said he had meant to lead us. Steps led upward. We went through some doors and then up another flight. Finally we went through a second set of doors, and found ourselves outside, on one of the downtown cross-streets.
It was a bit of a shock, and I reached out and took Rick’s hand.
